OFFICIAL: 2.1 to release this week on the Motorola Droid

I just rerooted and installed BB in light of this disappointing 2.1 news. Oh well. At least the release of 2.1 will allow the devs in the Droid community to provide us with a REAL 2.1 update. Friggin' Motorola...

the live wallpapers and home screen is part of 2.2 not 2.1...the n1 has it to keep it up to par

Wow, I find it hard to believe how critical everyone is of the update before it even gets here. There may very well be more to it then what's on the posted list. Let's let it get here and then discuss it.

I'd still rather have a Droid then a N1, doesn't matter what it has that Droid doesn't just for customer service. I know it's suppose to come to Verizon but there is always going to be something new and better. If you think you got shafted, how'd you like to have a Blackberry Storm 2 which came out 2 weeks before Droid did? They got shafted so bad they actually have to talk themselves into believing the Storm is better then the Droid.

My next phone will be a google phone, like the N1. Google obviously gave the extra toys to the N1 and left it out for Moto. I guess it was done for marketing purposes, and it worked. Really not cool. Supposedly the 5 screens and live wallpapers features are slated for 2.2, whenever that may arrive. I bet that will be quite a wait.

BTW, do we have any PROOF that 2.1 will stop root? Or are we just assuming they closed the hole? Just curious because I'm debating not letting the OTA go through, so I don't have to wait the X amount of time between release and root.

I agree I couldn't be more disappointed at this news...what 2.1 are we getting?...this should just be 2.0.2...no new look the real 2.1 offers just multi touch browser and a 3d gallery and slightly upgraded media player?...we can get apps for this...goggles? U seriois? App sucks I don't even want it...this is miserable I been looking forward for this for a while now I could care less...I'm ready to root droid got shafted I wish I knew aboit the n1 before I got my droid they have a one up on us besides a physical keyboard which I could live w.o for the real android goodness

Seriously, I don't remember this level of hostility and anger while waiting for 2.01. Does everyone REALLY think live wallpapers and a different app drawer will change your life at all? Get a Nexus if these simple little things matter that much to you. And I'm not saying that to be rude (mods)...I'm saying it because you're not gonna be happy until you have them so why put it off? I'd be willing to bet you'd be making similar complaints on a nexus forum once you got it in your hand though.

On a different note, I don't have an update yet, I haven't rooted, I hate beautiful widgets and all its fugly "skins", home replacement apps suck and most of the themes for them are like 1995 hideous, and I LOVE my Droid. I do like the new news/weather widget, though. 2.1 will be worth the wait if JUST for that in my opinion.

don't feel too bad about not getting those live walls. Their bloat, suck A LOT of juice and don't run all that well.

Head on over to our sister site Nexus One Forum - Google Phone Forum and see how many users don't even use them. They ran them then got rid of them quickly because of the above reasons.

This is the lamest update in the long history of lame updates. Is there a complaint number for Motorola? I'd like to call and tell them I wish I had held out for the Nexus One on Verizon. The phone is cool and all but if I have to read about things Android can do that Moto won't or can't give us then that is unacceptable. I could understand if we were talking about Android 4.0 or higher. You can't expect the hardware to run all future upgrades to the OS. But I bought it running 2.0 and it can't run all features of 2.1?!! Ridiculous. Moto has to be made aware of our complaints somehow.

I like the Droid phone. It's a solid phone, nice screen, good looking, well built.

But I like the ANDROID OS better.

So given the choice, knowing that I never use the slide out keyboard, I would probably go with a N1. Now I've never held a N1, maybe it feels cheap or something. But if we don't get all the "bells & whistles" on the Droid, I will be first in line for a N1 when Verizon gets them this spring.

So Moto, ya better wise up.
