LOL Sorry! :)

Geez... I can't believe they hosed us! This is aweful! I am going to sell my phone now and buy a N1...

Is that better? :icon_ banana::icon_ banana::icon_ banana:

The phone is already awesome with 2.0.1 so I'm not complaining...
you keep it up with the good attitude ..and were gonna ban u from here FOR LIFE ......this is not a happy place ........im jk :icon_ banana:

I've said it before....no matter what you buy its going to be outdated at some point. You think we have it bad because we are getting 2.1 less than a month after the N1 got it? Think of ALL the other Android devices out there. All those others. They don't have what we have. I recognize that before the end of my contract my phone will be outdated. It is far far from that point right now. Besides being able to make phone calls on my phone I keep discovering new apps and functionality on an almost daily basis. I find it funny how many were upset we didn't get 2.1 last month. Now its here and some folks still aren't happy. I surmise some still won't be happy after they get it either. I'd say what to see if the update gives you what you want. If not then rooting might be an option, because options we do have. As for legitimate fixes....they will get here when they do.

No matter what Droid Does, owner wants more. But no need to have a crisis over it :)

Supposedly the 5 screens and live wallpapers features are slated for 2.2, whenever that may arrive. I bet that will be quite a wait.
don't feel too bad about not getting those live walls. Their bloat, suck A LOT of juice and don't run all that well.

Head on over to our sister site Nexus One Forum - Google Phone Forum and see how many users don't even use them. They ran them then got rid of them quickly because of the above reasons.

The grass is always greener:)

and, @osyrus42 If you are not rooted and plan on turning down the update notification to wait and see what others say: the specs say that if you reboot the update starts automatically.

I do love this phone, but it just sucks to only be king of the hill for a couple months.

Those damn Iphone guys held the top spot for years, then finally the droid came out. I was proud to have the best phone. Then what seemed like the next day, the N1 came out and it is now getting all the new cool gadgets. Plus I was patiently waiting for Moto to get us back up on top of the hill. But...no! They stop just shy of getting us there, and have offered no explanation.

Did someone actually get the update and say theres no 5 screens? Or is this just all speculation?

It's all speculation, so no one really knows what it comes with. They also seem to forget that if it comes with the standard launcher, they already have a non-rooted launcher 2.1 app

All I want is more home screens (to have my shortcuts, widgets, etc.). I don't even care if it has the fancy new "dots" like the N1 has. I mean how difficult can it really be ? I'm sure it can't be any significant kind of performance hit either. It's probably just a hard-coded number somewhere in the Android source.

Would really love to see some detailed release notes of all the fixes in 2.1

I wonder if this is how it will be from now on with regards to the N1 and Droid. The N1 get's the "premium" version of the OS which includes the new home button, extra screens, live wallpapers, and roldex app menu. The Droid gets most of the enhancements but not the flashiest so that Google can differentiate "their" phone from the others, even though the Droid could run those enhancements as well. This disappoints me, but I can't say I'm completely surprised because it seems that to the average consumer (not the folks that are on this board) it's those flashy UI that peak there interest and if Google let's all Android phones have them, there's little reason to buy a phone from Google. Just my $0.02.

I think you are absolutely right about this. What boggles me is that Moto is letting this all happen. All the new android phones by other manufactures ARE coming with neat extra features (depending on your perspective I suppose). Like my GF's Eris runs SenseUI, a lot of which I actually like (5 screens). Hell, the smoked glass look comes standard on that thing. Even Moto's new phone runs Blur, which I've heard mixed things about, but at least it's got a unique look.

What did buying a "Google Experience" phone get us? Vanilla Android that's not even as updated as Sense and Blur? Crap sync with almost everything NOT Google? 1/2 the functionality at twice the speed?

Google Phone > "Google Experience Device" (which is a nice way of saying "pretty good, but you could do better for almost the same price")

Instead of raging about the update be glad that we are getting it and there are mods out there to be able and make the 2.1 better for us and how we want it to be. For the above poster i think that we were the dummies to test out 2.0 so that they can fix the coding on 2.1 for their Google Experience lol oh well who cares just enjoy your phone.

If anyone from Moto is monitoring this topic they're probably leery about sending the OTA out. They may be in fear of a riot.

LOL - do you guys blaming Google have any concept of what Open Source software is??? Google is not even ALLOWED to "Hold back" features from other manufacturers when it comes to the core OS. They could hold back custom, i.e. non-open, applications. Now you can all sit there and b***h about how Motorola Sc****d us, but I choose to believe that they were looking out for us getting us the update as quickly as they could by leaving out buggy features.

Seriously, as long as it works and is as fast as it was before, I'm happy. If I got 2.1 with everything added and it slowed my phone to a crawl and constantly got FC's, I would be extremely upset.

It certainly is in this case.
