OFFICIAL: Droid 2 Pre-Release thread

Check it out! Looks like this may be the Moto Droid 2 in the wild and getting certified!

Did The Motorola Droid 2 (Or Motorola Shadow) Just Pass WiFi Certification? | Android Phone Fans

Ooooh yeah.... :icon_ banana::icon_ banana:dancedroiddancedroid:icon_ banana::icon_ banana:

Ahhh...more info to keep me satisfied...

Look at the model: A955?? That HAS to be the Droid 2. The other name on the other WiFi cert was was MB810...and NOW I cant find any info on the other WiFi cert.....I didnt save it...

Looks like July the Shadow and Droid 2 MAY be hitting...
So Summer we'll see these 2 devices.
now the Moto Droid Pro may be the big bang at the end of the year.

Hopefully it's further off than that. The more I see news about new products the less I think we'll ever see a good fix for the current, which I'll have at least through the end of this year and part of the next.

Well I just scanned and saw this in CK's post:

12 Mega-Pixel Camera With Xenon Flash And Led Flash (For Night Time Video Recoring)

12MP? For serious? Why this obsession with huge sizes when they fail to deliver on enough detail to make it really viable? The 5MP in the Droid is kind of a joke. Really sensors powerful and sensitive enough to make such a size really work nicely won't be around for at least a few years right? I know there are a few new technologies being used to improve this but I hear costs might be an issue for it to happen quick enough to make it in this years phones.

What exactly is in need of fixing?

I have an upgrade available (2nd line) right now so I more than likely will be waiting to see what the Moto Droid Pro has in store before making a decision.

It will be tempting to just jump on the Droid 2 but I will force myself to wait till the end of the year.

I'm waiting as well (more because my 2 year contract ends in early December) - any word on if these devices will support LTE? If that rollout is right around the corner (I heard it will be this year in some cities), I might want to wait and make sure my next device will have that capability.

I read earlier in the thread that LTE devices won't begin to roll out till the 1st or 2nd quarter of 2011.

no LTE capabilities on either the Moto Shadow or the Moto Droid 2...

Which begs the question will the Moto Droid Pro support LTE.

Well we don't know that for sure because I don't believe the A955 has gone through FCC testing and certification yet. Until it does we will have no idea what it has inside.

If it does and it comes out Q4 this year, that's my new phone, sort of a no-brainer.

Verizon says it plans to begin the LTE rollout this year - you wonder how it could make any sense to release a device at the end of this year that doesn't support LTE, unless insiders know Verizon is way behind schedule.

Don't know if this has been posted yet because I haven't been through the forum today but I saw this on a feed a lttle while ago. seemed relevant.

winston said no LTE and he's usually correct but in a sense you are right. We'll soon find out.

I'm not holding my breath though. At least on the D2 having LTE.

If any of these devices were to have LTE I'd hedge my bet on the Moto Droid Pro not the others.

Just another thought and a good one too. Motorola has stated that all of their future devices will be shipped with locked down boot loaders. If this is indeed the case and the Shadow, Droid 2, Droid Pro, etc.. CANNOT be rooted would you still buy one? Reason I ask is because if it weren't for root on the Droid I wouldn't have purchased it. Thoughts?

You can still root with a locked bootloader, you just can't run any custom roms.

That said, as long as overclocking and system-level tweaks / themes are available I'll probably be pretty satisfied.
