OFFICIAL Droid X Issues/Problem Thread

So now I have to go around asking friends if I can borrow an old VZW phone that they're not using. Am I the only one who finds this disturbing? I had the DroidX for a total of 3 days and it died on me. I am a new customer who switched over from AT&T and this is how they treat me? I saw the worse customer support and concern tonight. Sadly, I am stuck with VZW for two more years.
You're not stuck with anything. If you're that dissatisfied with VZW, why not just get out of your contract and go back to AT&T? You are still within your 30 day return window. And if the phone was defective, chances are you won't even have to pay a restocking fee.

I swear, it seems as if some people stay in bad situations just so they can complain about it.

Why shucks, thanks for being an a-hole! :)

More info to fill your sarcastic behind on:

When I left AT&T, I paid a cancellation fee that I will not get back. I also paid an activation fee to join VZW and they told me they would not refund this fee to me. If I went back to AT&T, I would have to pay ANOTHER activation fee to get BACK onto their service.

So I pretty much would be out of $175. Why should I be out of $175 because VZW shipped me a faulty phone? I'm the consumer here, and I have a right to be upset about a faulty product they provided me with.

You think VZW would be going out of their way to get people to switch from AT&T and then do whatever it takes to keep them happy.

Anyone know how to delete all of my contacts including phone only without doing a factory reset??? Forgive me if my posting is breaking any of the rules down there I wouldn't know but tell me if I am lol -Droid X

sms popup although a great app, resends a whole mess of texts after the phone restarts, reboots, or is turned off and on. in case people were wondering. such a shame because i love it

Is SMS Popup causing that? I've seen this bug mentioned several times but I always thought it was an Android bug because of this: Issue 8248 - android - Droid sends out old SMS messages during boot-up process - Project Hosting on Google Code

nope SMS pop-up. the crazy thing is.. i uninstalled SMS pop-up... and did a battery pull... when the phone turned on, it re-sent a whole mix of text messages. however after the NEXT battery pull, it did not... and after 3 or 4 battery pulls... the phone dying... and just a couple random resets... it has yet to resend any text messages... so yes i'd put my money on sms popup causing that error.

Is anyone having a problem with the GPS? When I turn off everything but the satellite I can't usually get a signal if there is anything between the open sky and myself. Bringing up gmaps tells me that my location is currently unavailable. I understand that buildings can block signals, but I'm coming over from the iphone platform and this was never an issue so I'm wondering if it's a design flaw or a problem with my phone.

I have actually had no issues with tyhe phone itself, but do have a couple questions:
1) How can I cut and paste text from an email or web page?
2) How can I dial a phone number that is imbedded in an email or calendar invite?
3) How do I search emails in my Corporate ActiveSynch account?
4) can you sort emails by sender on the ActiveSynch account?
These are kind of killing me, I am coming from a BB Storm and these were easy on that device and sorely missed on this one.

This is my first Android device (coming from a BB as well), so I'm not super-sure about these answers, but from what I've figured out through research and trial-and-error:

1) You can copy/paste from a website by Menu key-->More-->Select text, then choosing the text to be copied with your finger. You can NOT copy/paste from an email, unless you're viewing your email via the web browser. And yes, coming from a BB I find this probably the single biggest limitation of Android; this really needs to be addressed as it drives me crazy.
2) You can't dial a phone number embedded in an email or calendar item. See (1) above. Another bad limitation.
3) Again, I think (although I'm not certain) that you're out of luck here. However you can do this to at least a limited extent if you access your corporate email through Touchdown, a paid third-party app which adds quite a bit of Outlook functionality as compared to the out-of-the-box sync email client. I say "at least to a limited extent" because I find that the search functionality in Touchdown doesn't seem to work particularly well (although it's better than nothing), certainly not nearly as well as what you'll be used to on your BB. Overall though I like Touchdown a lot.
4) No, see (3) above, only for this I find that Touchdown works well.

For any lurking flamers, don't get me wrong, I really like my Droid X, especially for fun kinds of things. But it's nowhere near the email experience of a BB. I knew that going in, but honestly I'm a little surprised how weak email is on Android at this point. So the good news is that there's lots of room for improvement. Cheers.

Am I the only one with cursor issues?(tapping it once to place a cursor)
It would move back and forth around where your finger is touching and sometimes skips a letter or two when you hit the space bar. It's really hard to pinpoint a specific letter(by tapping the the screen once). It only happens when I try to add a reply or send a text in regular upright/portrait screen orientation(without using the magnifying glass thing; landscape mode works just fine). When using the magnifier, the whole screen would move instead of the cursor. Landscape mode works as it should. It's just the portrait mode that I'm having problem with.
I think it's a software issues.

i cant get my droid x to rotate screen orientations at all. not on the browser, text, nothing.

Settings > Sound & display settings > Orientation

EDIT: I updated to Froyo and no longer have these issues.

Really like my droid X all of 3 days!
I have a question about adding a second gmail account and sync to X/add account.
I have 2 sets of contacts set 1; I can call in the AM and the second in the PM.(time zone thing)
It was suggested I simply create a second gmail account and I could toggle between the two. So I created a second gmail account for my PM contacts but when I went to add my second account I got the dreaded cannot connect reliable data connection text...
I came up with a clumsy fix I imported my pm data base back into Outlook and mapped the phone numbers to business phone 2 then synced back to Original gmail Mycontacts which immediately synced with X so the no reliable data issue must be some stumped off spaghetti code or Motorola way of saying error. There tech support is really slammed but what a marketing coup I’m sure they’ll eventually get most of these issues resolved but right now there treading in deep water in the deep end of the pool there trying to stay ahead of the power curve they better hand out some nice Christmas bonuses. Hopefully this issue will be resolved in future OS releases but if any of you propeller heads have worked this I would be happy to bend metal. I mean it only took me 3 hours to add my own ring tone lol.
Gmail suggestion: Mycontacts appears to be the Master list for all phone numbers and the sub phone list don’t sync. As I’m sure gmail never imagined there gmail would need to have this type of granularity they might look for some way of adding categories or something. Also being new to gmail and X the nomenclature doesn’t translate well between google and Motorola. Therefore let me suggest a fix this way , Why don’t we have Mycontacts, and Mycontacts1, Mycontacts2 etc, with the existing sync properties.

J,Im having a big problem with mine as well. I had a droid before this droid X,almost wish I kept it. Droid X keeps dropping GPS signal,or signal is unavailable more often than not.I gave my fiance my droid, shes right next to me,able to use the near me app,but i cant because i cant get gps signal. The day I got the phone, came out of the store, and I couldnt get to a destination due to no signal, had to drive 5 miles to get a signal, found out i was headed in wrong direction.
My screen freezes quite a bit,esp after hanging up the phone,i will not be able to use the screen without hitting the sleep button thru a cycle. Screen also spazzes out,and the keys will enter themselves, and twitch uncontrollably, pressing them does nothing, you have to hit the sleep button thru a cycle.
My battery life is horrible, about 1/2 as long a my droid was...why didnt they make the phone a little thicker, and put a real battery in for the big screen, and a good sized speaker....this speaker is horrible, you cant use speakerphone in my truck, where I used my droids easily.
Other issues are the phone reboots itself 3-4x a day,at random,a few times its rebooted as a call came in....
Today it "lost" my SD card,no pics,or anything, couldnt use the camera, after a reboot everything is back...wierd.
On the good side the phone is way better than the droids, ppl can hear me better, esp when tis noisey, although i cant hear them as good due to the weak speaker.
I miss my droids camera layout,I was able to send 6-10 pictures at a time on it,the droid x only 1 at a time....
Using Handcent, about 1 out of 10 texts have a red x and dont go thru....copy /paste and it goes right thru, even with strong signal.
I am getting the wifi/and 3G lights on simutaneously as well, but not every day,it is at random.Old droid seems faster than droid x now that its running 2.2.
I got my phone on 8/10 it came in that day.I waited 2 weeks for it.Verizon is sending me a brand new phone, mostly due to weak GPS signal, and rebooting. It wont ship until the 24th-27th.
Overall I wish Id kept my Droid,I used to set it on my bicycles bars in a leather holster, and listen to slacker when i rode, loud and clear,I cannot with this phone, the volume just isnt there,If you look at it,its easy to see the speaker is just too small...I dont think it can be fixed.I miss my droid, only dropped GPS 2x in 4 months, briefly.

Anyone have the ringtones for incoming calls, alarms and alerts stuck in vibrate? No matter what I do all incoming calls alarms and alerts vibrate. All settings seem correct. I can play all ringtones and alerts in preview.

3G Hotspot stops working

Works great for 3 minutes, then nada. The Dell 9400 says it's still connected to the DroidX hotspot at 54Mbps, the diagnostics all say that everything is fine, and the DroidX displays the Dell 9400 as connected to the hotspot. But there is absolutely no internet connectivity any longer. The "up and down" arrows under the 3G on the DroidX are gray, with no activity. If this can't be corrected, I'm headed back to using the Storm.

Help!

Thanks.

I've searched this thread and the forums with a few different strings regarding an issue I just uncovered this morning: My Droid X apparently doesn't 'ring' or 'alert' when charging on the cable on my nightstand.

I'm using a standard 6' USB cable with the proper connectors, plugged into the USB to A/C plug base that came with my Droid X.

Hubby tried to ring me from his work with a dead car battery and my phone never rang once! I unplugged the charging cable and then it rang?!

Any suggestions?

Regards,

Niniri

Droid X Bootstrap Recovery by Koush

I think I've gathered enough info on the issues and am ready to upgrade to 2.2 but I've been seeing how you need to uninstall Koush's Bootstrap Recovery first. Only problem is I'm not really sure how to do that. I have Root Explorer, MyBackupPro, and the other apps I need (Astro, Easy Root for returning to stock?) also installed Android SDK on my PC as well, but I run into problems understanding what to do via ADB. Any help will be extremely appreciated!!
