OFFICIAL Droid X Issues/Problem Thread

So I got my new DX shipped to my house yesterday, and so far so good. I like the phone a lot (although I liked my original Droid as well). Anyway, I thought the DX came with Swype? If it has it, I can't find it. Does anyone know if they did away with this as a native program on the current phones?

mine did....

menu key -> settings -> language & keyboard -> input method -> swype

they may have quit putting it on there; there was a lot of chatter about a trial period ending (people's devices lost swype and were told to buy it I think)... but I've never run into that.

Ok, I figured it was just me being an idiot. Thank you for the reply. :)

SD Card issue with 2.2

So....ever since I downloaded this thing, it's acted like there's not even a memory card there. When I go into Music, it says it's "busy". When I go to take a picture it tells me to put in an SD card. And when I plug it into the computer the removable disk shows up but when I click on it it tells me to insert a drive into it. WTF?

I'm surprised no one else is having this problem, or at least it seems like it from reading this. I did see one news article so I'm not the only one...but anyone have a solution?

Have you tried to remove your Micro-SD card and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser and put it back in? Do not rub too hard with the eraser, and ensure that the residue from the eraser is all off prior to putting it back in.

I haven't had any problems with my card being detected at any point (2.1 or 2.2)

Yeah, I tried that earlier. Nothing happened...and when I turn it back on, it conveniently tells me my card is "safe to be removed" :icon_rolleyes:

Is there a way to make notifications be silent but the ringer for calls still works? I would like to be able to sleep but have my wife (who works out of town a lot) to call me in an emergency? I have found that tasker will do this, but I dont want to pay for tasker as its many other great features don't work for me (I live too close to my job). I will pay for it if that is the only way though.

ETA: This is probably in the wrong thread. I'll move it, give me a minute to figure that out.

Absolutely brilliant. Thank you.

Droid X 2.2 Froyo problems

I installed Froyo at launch and since then i have been experiencing some issues from wireless connections to contacts. So here's a list of problems I've been dealing with since I got Froyo..

  • Linked contacts with Facebook - My contacts are linked with their Facebook profiles. Some of my contacts consistently change their profile pictures and for some reason their pictures wont update on my contacts like it used to before Froyo.
  • Time and Date Widget - I have this widget on my home screen. The time now freezes and I have to constantly remove the widget in order for it to work again.
  • GPS - I always have my GPS turned on. Since update, my GPS now randomly turns on whenever it feels like it.
  • Texting - Texting on the virtual keyboard seems to lag constantly now.
  • Recording Videos - Before the update, I could record HD video and simply upload it to my YouTube account and now i constantly get the same error message saying "video cannot exceed more than 1GB" (somewhat like that)

Has anyone else experienced the same problems I have??? Is there anyway to fix these issues??? Thank You!

I've had a few issues after the 2.2 update, and it's gotten better since.
a few things you can try... in no real particular order...

> dial *228 and select option 2 to update the network connections with vzw
> clear cached data for some of the more frequently used apps & widgets
> try doing a battery pull
> go a day with the battery manager set to performance mode, faster drain but more syncing
> restart the phone after charging, and let it charge to the max and let it stay on the charger for a while after it's maxed

I've done all of these over the course of time since the update, and while I can't say which is the most specific to fix any of these issues, they've been consistently mentioned on lots of other posts in this and other forums...

It's weird but I do sense my phone is 'evolving'...

unable to add picasa account or twitter . error message or invalid password message

-Gmail inbox does not update without a manual refresh
-music files are not recognized by native music player....doesn't work
-camera stopped working altogether
-security lock is locked in numbers mode...cannot change to a pattern

Getting close to sending this thing back.

I was using the "corporate sync" mailing system for my work emails and it was working great until I updated to Froyo. Now I am unable to access my email account (weird thing is my calendar still syncs with my outlook).

I haven't noticed any other issues with the update to Froyo (I don't count the password only being numerical instead of pattern being a major issue because I did have the pattern lock before the update).

Anyone know anything about this (other than the "Froyo was bugged and needs to be fixed")? Thanks

latest Droid X issues...2.2 related?

There are many 2.2 issue threads for the Droid X out there I am sure. It might be more appropriate to put this in a "master" thread, but I haven't seen anyone discussing the same issues I am having yet. So if the thread needs to be moved, that's fine. Or maybe more appropriately the title of the thread could be changed...but overall I feel at this point these are my latest issues and seem like they are 2.2 related as they happened right after I updated.

First off, I am using a Droid X non-rooted, 2.2 update that came on official update day.

Three times this has happened so far. Twice with the battery drain I am about to explain, only once (right now as I am typing this) with just the clock issue.
All times had the clock issue.

I took my phone to work and although it already experiences battery drain due to the constant searching of a better signal (I have it set to turn data off after 15 minutes of non-use to combat that so that is under control and I would not attribute that to being the problem), it was at 100% at 7:45 and by 10:40 the battery was at 15% and the clock froze. I didn't use it at all and this had happened. Then I tried to make a call, use the phone, it completely locked up and after maybe 10 minutes I was able to get it to respond enough that I could try to turn it off and back on. I turned it back on and data seemed to be completely turned off, couldn't get it back on and the clock was stuck again, now at the time I turned it back on. The clock was originally stuck at 10:20 the first time. Now at 11:07 it was stuck after, like I said, trying to get it to respond after locking up. So then I just turned it off again, turned it back on at maybe 3:45pm and it started to work again no problem. The battery was still low, but thats because I didn't charge it, didn't have a charger at work.

It didn't happen again until maybe 5 days later. Same situation.

Then right now, no battery drain, but the clock is stuck at 12:00pm. It's 1:29 now. I was able to do stuff and pull stuff up and everything seems to be running ok, but then when the screen timed out, I can't get anything up, it timed out and I can't pull the screen back up, not by pressing lock button, nothing. Then about 5 minutes after I tried pressing some buttons, it pulled up, but clock still stuck at 12:00pm. It timed out again as I am typing this, and again...unable to pull anything up. I was able to get it turned off and am turning it back on right now. I'm assuming that will clear the issue up, but obviously temporarily. I'm guessing this might be a 2.2 related issue since it never happened until the update, and the first time was 3 days after the update. I got the update on the first Friday it was out, and then all weekend had it plugged in so I didn't notice the battery drain issue if it happened since it was plugged in. So the first time I had it away from home was that next Monday, as I described at work.

Ok, it turned back on and the clock is working right, so again, a temp fix it looks like. Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas? Hopefully it isn't the sign of a bigger problem.

Thanks in advance.
