OFFICIAL Droid X Issues/Problem Thread

I was using the "corporate sync" mailing system for my work emails and it was working great until I updated to Froyo. Now I am unable to access my email account (weird thing is my calendar still syncs with my outlook).

I haven't noticed any other issues with the update to Froyo (I don't count the password only being numerical instead of pattern being a major issue because I did have the pattern lock before the update).

Anyone know anything about this (other than the "Froyo was bugged and needs to be fixed")? Thanks

This seems to be an issue across the board with Froyo. The solution seems to be downloading the app touchdown. Let us know if that works for you

There are many 2.2 issue threads for the Droid X out there I am sure. It might be more appropriate to put this in a "master" thread, but I haven't seen anyone discussing the same issues I am having yet. So if the thread needs to be moved, that's fine. Or maybe more appropriately the title of the thread could be changed...but overall I feel at this point these are my latest issues and seem like they are 2.2 related as they happened right after I updated.

First off, I am using a Droid X non-rooted, 2.2 update that came on official update day.

Three times this has happened so far. Twice with the battery drain I am about to explain, only once (right now as I am typing this) with just the clock issue.
All times had the clock issue.

I took my phone to work and although it already experiences battery drain due to the constant searching of a better signal (I have it set to turn data off after 15 minutes of non-use to combat that so that is under control and I would not attribute that to being the problem), it was at 100% at 7:45 and by 10:40 the battery was at 15% and the clock froze. I didn't use it at all and this had happened. Then I tried to make a call, use the phone, it completely locked up and after maybe 10 minutes I was able to get it to respond enough that I could try to turn it off and back on. I turned it back on and data seemed to be completely turned off, couldn't get it back on and the clock was stuck again, now at the time I turned it back on. The clock was originally stuck at 10:20 the first time. Now at 11:07 it was stuck after, like I said, trying to get it to respond after locking up. So then I just turned it off again, turned it back on at maybe 3:45pm and it started to work again no problem. The battery was still low, but thats because I didn't charge it, didn't have a charger at work.

It didn't happen again until maybe 5 days later. Same situation.

Then right now, no battery drain, but the clock is stuck at 12:00pm. It's 1:29 now. I was able to do stuff and pull stuff up and everything seems to be running ok, but then when the screen timed out, I can't get anything up, it timed out and I can't pull the screen back up, not by pressing lock button, nothing. Then about 5 minutes after I tried pressing some buttons, it pulled up, but clock still stuck at 12:00pm. It timed out again as I am typing this, and again...unable to pull anything up. I was able to get it turned off and am turning it back on right now. I'm assuming that will clear the issue up, but obviously temporarily. I'm guessing this might be a 2.2 related issue since it never happened until the update, and the first time was 3 days after the update. I got the update on the first Friday it was out, and then all weekend had it plugged in so I didn't notice the battery drain issue if it happened since it was plugged in. So the first time I had it away from home was that next Monday, as I described at work.

Ok, it turned back on and the clock is working right, so again, a temp fix it looks like. Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas? Hopefully it isn't the sign of a bigger problem.

Thanks in advance.

If you are running any task killers or virus protection remove them. If that is not the issue then I would recommend a factory data reset out of your privacy section. Now that will mean a loss of data and you will lose your unpaid apps but it will determine if an app is causing an issue or if it's the Droid itself.

Run it for a while and see if the issue pops up downloading only your paid apps which will be in the Market in your downloads. If it happens again, then take it in for replacement. Or call customer service and explain what's going on and what you've done, they will fedex one to you.

@hookbill...another NEOhio member, cool! I have no task killer installed, but have the antivirus app (the yellow and white pill icon one). I'll see if that works. Thanks for the reply!

edit: I guess you would say I'm the "another NEOhio member" since you've been here for a while...lol, but you know what I mean ;-)

Try the app 'Improved Email' from mtwebster. When Froyo broke Exchange access this worked for me and it also removed the necessity for the unlock screen password.

Ive been experiencing these problems since 2.2
glitchy choppy gallery
music player problems galore
browser problems
3g connection going to 1x problems
when rebooting it gets stuck on the m screen at least 1 out of 5 reboots
every day there's a new bug
Ive only had to do a battery pull once in a few months with 2.1 now i do it twice a day it seems

issue with 2.2 update

since updating to the 2.2 have had issue getting on internet threw 3 g net work and help center guide tour app for the droid x and space in with swype and face book notification

Newbie here. I was writing a text when my screen timed out. When I got it back on, the text I'd been writing was gone. I can't find a place where texts are saved as drafts. Am I not looking in the right place?

Hey everyone, so I spoke to tech and what they told me is that all the problems is because the update had to remove the old operating system and it didn't. So now both 2.1 and 2.2 are running together. I took it to the store and they "fixed it" but not really. I'm still having all those problems. And on top iof that they erased the progress I had in an RPG game!!

Lots of problems listed on this thread, and no real info to help troubleshoot any of them. :(
Some things that would help:

What else has been done to the phone? Rooted? ROM'd? Are you running the OTA 2.2 update? or a leaked/ROM? These are only a few of the things I would ask to start troubleshooting issues like this. :S I don't know what has been done for the phone to get to this state. My wife's stock 2.1 DX was updated OTA to 2.2, and she isn't have any issues.

--Don't know about Facebook sync, I hate the Facebook integration, so just use the stand alone app, so I can't help you there. :(
--The Time and Date widget freezing I've seen can be caused by a task killer. If you're running a task killer application, remove it from your phone. Task killer applications should only be used to killing hung apps anyway as per best practices.
--If GPS is magically turning itself on, it's almost certainly an application causing it.
--texting: Which keyboard? Can you reproduce across other keyboards (default/swype/?) If it's laggy, I'd again point to something else running that's causing a problem with the phone, another application perhaps.
--Videos: There is a thread on this either here, or DroidXForums. I think they said that it was a youtube issue(?). If you try again later, and it still happens, search forums for that thread, it had some great info. (sorry I don't have a link, you can use the search function just as efficiently as I can).

If the phone is having serious issues after the update, first thing I'd try is to reboot to recovery and clear data and cache... You might have to re-setup apps, etc. But if it fixes issues it's probably worth it.

Couple of the other posts have issues listed that I've seen fixes for as well. Search is your friend!

update to my issue with the 2: 2 update

just wanted to say my update was done threw my phone . on the internet issue I to switch back and fourth between 3 g and 1x on its own and had to charge battery twice yesterday and I'm on battery saver and etc also on camera not gettin opt to change scene like daytime pics and etc have in trouble with adding pics on friend contact profiles and swype isn't always doin auto space and I get freezing issues on phone .only had droid for a week and I'm think in it is goin back if I can't get this problem s fix esp internet issues .

I've noticed a few bugs with the new update. Who would I contact in order to get these handled (Ive read a few of these already, so I know theyre getting worked out, but I want to make sure the others are handled too... its worth a shot to ask...)

1. it seems to actually be slower than when my phone ran on 2.1.

2. the text message order is all messed up. The most recently sent ones appear at the top of the list, and those that I receive are randomly placed below.

3. Im running Launcher Pro Plus and I noticed that sometimes when you go to click on an icon (for instance, the Menu icon), it will not light up. If you click around the button but not actually on the button, it will take you to the menu without lighting up the icon. This is kind of annoying.

4. the pictures in my contacts list that are synched up from my Facebook contacts takes FOREVER to load. When I open my contacts list, it takes a long time for everyones picture to appear. Before on 2.1, it took little to no time for these pictures to appear.

5. the unlock screen sucks and is a lot laggier / less cool looking that before

6. the lowest setting you can get to with the volume bars is Vibrate. no more Silent mode

7. a couple times now ill pick up the phone and it will connect but nothign comes through (cant hear any voice)

If you have any more bugs that Ive missed, list them and ill tell you if i have them too.

ALSO!!! if anyone has any solutions to any of these, please help and share.

Thanks all and hopefully Verizon and Android get their crap together and fix these issues. As of right now, im dissapointed with the Froyo update, though with these problems fixed i could see huge potential in 2.2

-- 1) Slower than 2.1
Interesting, I've heard so many reports of 2.2 being snappier/faster/etc. My first guess would be task killer, or misbehaving apps, or cache or something around that's causing problems. I honestly am not sure where to start on this, and if this is OTA, it sucks for you as you can't .sbf back to stock to clean things up and start fresh. Until someone gets their hands on a full 2.2 .sbf file, you'd be stuck going to VZW store, asking them to reset your phone to stock 2.2 (which would probably fix most of your issues.. honestly. :S

-- 2) Txt Msging Order
See: Motorola engineering fix to solve Droid X update woes (Froyo "Fix")
Moto's working on it.

-- 3) I would contact LP devs. Sounds like an app issue. Could be something else causing the problem, but LP devs should be able to help diagnose it at least.

-- 4) God I hate blur, and the integration of all the social media crap. Can't wait for blurless rubiX to be in ROM Manager *sigh*
And, now that I'm done ranting... haven't read anyone else having this issue.. and I don't believe anything regarding this functionality should have been changed from 2.1 to 2.2. Could be related to your issue #1, and wish I could recommend flashing stock .sbf, but since you OTA'd, if you do this without VZW, you'll brick.

-- 5) After OTA, unlock screen has been faster. What is less cool about it? Really?

-- 6) Not sure what you're looking for on this one.. but I'll take a swing *shrug*. What is Home>MenuButton>Settings>SoundSettings>Vibrate set to? Do you want silent mode to NOT vibrate? Choose never here. If that's not it, then you lost me, and I'd head over to Moto forums and ask there. Sounds like something they would be best to handle...

-- 7) Serious issue. THIS is a show stopper, and seeing you're having #1 and #4... to be honest, it almost makes me think it'd be worth a trip to VZW to have them reset your phone to stock 2.2 to see if it resolves these 3. If volume, and everything else is normal.. something seriously wrong...

Regarding VZW and android getting their **** together, I just think something went wrong with your upgrade... I don't believe most of these to be common problems...

Close as you can get without a trip to VZW. Follow the link to "Fabrian's instructions" in last paragrph. You'll have to re-set up your apps and stuff, but if it helps with other issues... *shrug*

hey thanks for all the help sephtin!

i just got a quick question for you...

i never rooted or anything, i just got the notification to update to 2.2 so i did it. im too afraid of screwing up my phone to root it or anything to its just running normal.

you deffinitly fixed 6 though and made me feel a lot better about 2. but im not sure what you mean by going back to stock 2.2 and how it would help?

oh and how would i contact the Launcher Pro people to ask them about 3?

-- Stock 2.2: Sorry I was so general. There really is no such thing as stock 2.2 now that I think about it.. lol. By stock 2.2, what I meant was as close to a bare, clean, 2.2 installation as possible.
I'm not sure this is available yet. :( I have heard of people going to VZW stores, and having their phone """"reset"""" by the VZW tech. I have been assuming that there exists a flash file to reset the phone back to a clean install (wiping everything, and resetting everything to factory defaults). Such a flash file (.sbf) exists, and is floating around the internets for 2.1, but not for 2.2 that I know of. It is possible that a 2.2 file does not yet exist...
VERY IMPORTANT: Once upgraded to 2.2 via the OTA update (Verizon's Over The Air update.. which you have done).. flashing to 2.1 is no longer possible, it would brick your phone. So, cross that off the list of things to try ;)

You could try the method suggested at the end of my previous post to reset the phone as close to a factory reset of 2.2 as possible... I've not done it, but from the sound of it, it has helped several people who had upgrade issues. (?).

-- Asking questions about LP:
Near the top of LauncherPro.com, it says:
If you have any questions, suggestions, or bug reports, please don’t post them in the comments. Head over to our forum and post them there. (READ the rules and stickies first!)
So, maybe try: LauncherPro Forum

Note: Haven't had much interaction with many dev's in Android community, but the few I have are awesome! Someone there might be able to help (?).
