OFFICIAL Droid X Issues/Problem Thread

i hate to keep asking, but you seem to have a lot of helpful information so i might as well ask this...


i downloaded MyBackup Pro from the market and backed up everything (apps and data) online. basically if i do this factory reset described in the link you posted, will i be able to restore my phone EXACTLY or will i have to re-tweak everything to my liking?

ive actually been playing around with the phone a lot today and ive come to the conclusion that most of those complaints i listed arent really important, but i still do have an issue with the text messages (though thats getting fixed so im fine with that), the icons not lighitng up (but i did post on LauncherPro forum so ill wait for a response on there), and the call thing.

another thing ive noticed is my email isnt synching up anymore either. i have to manually refresh it to get new emails instead of it fetching them every hour like i set it to.


since the text thing is getting handled and the icon thing is a LuancherPro problem, my main 2 concerns are email and calls.

do you think this reset will help solve these problems? if so, then ill try to reset and let you know how well it works. if not, then i dont want to risk messing up my phone.

i just got a quick question for you...

what do you mean reset it to stock 2.2?
i never rooted or anything, i just got the notification to update to 2.2 so i did it. im too afraid of screwing up my phone to root it or anything to its just running normal.

you deffinitly fixed 6 though and made me feel a lot better about 2. but im not sure what you mean by going back to stock 2.2 and how it would help?


oh and how would i contact the Launcher Pro people to ask them about 3?
i went on www.launcherpro.com but theres no contact email or anything

-- Stock 2.2: Sorry I was so general. There really is no such thing as stock 2.2 now that I think about it.. lol. By stock 2.2, what I meant was as close to a bare, clean, 2.2 installation as possible.
I'm not sure this is available yet. I have heard of people going to VZW stores, and having their phone """"reset"""" by the VZW tech. I have been assuming that there exists a flash file to reset the phone back to a clean install (wiping everything, and resetting everything to factory defaults). Such a flash file (.sbf) exists, and is floating around the internets for 2.1, but not for 2.2 that I know of. It is possible that a 2.2 file does not yet exist...
VERY IMPORTANT: Once upgraded to 2.2 via the OTA update (Verizon's Over The Air update.. which you have done).. flashing to 2.1 is no longer possible, it would brick your phone. So, cross that off the list of things to try

You could try the method suggested at the end of my previous post to reset the phone as close to a factory reset of 2.2 as possible... I've not done it, but from the sound of it, it has helped several people who had upgrade issues. (?).

keep in mind, im not rooted, so when he mentions formatting the SD card im not too sure what he means...
in all honesty im not quite sure what his whole reset process actually does...

-- Backup/Restore: Ahh, this is the question of the day! I could give you a very long answer with lots of if's and but's... instead I'm going to say this instead. Maybe. You might be able to get very close to where you are now. HOWEVER, that might include the issue(s) you're having. The point of starting fresh is to hopefully leave those issues behind. Restoring apps is a HUGE time saver, and I would suggest that if you go through with it. But data (etc.)... It pains me, but I have to strongly recommend that you go through re-configuring things again, in an effort to avoid bringing the issue back with a restore... hope that makes sense.

-- Email syncing: Check Menu button> Settings> Accounts> Your Gmail Acct> Sync Gmail. Is that checked? If it is.. then it should sync. If it doesn't, post again, and hopefully someone will have more info. (?)

-- Will Reset help: I think the saying goes something like "Only one way to find out for sure..." ?

You can try to go as things are, and see if it stops doing it, but of all the issues you listed, not hearing someone when receiving a call is a critical problem. I believe it's a software issue (not the phone...).. but not sure the best way to resolve.

EDIT: Did some additional searching, and this is all I could come up with. 2 threads also mention this problem. One with no answer, and another that suggests a battery pull (powering off, pulling battery for a few minutes). Threads here:

I would try this FIRST. Maybe it's just a temporary fix, maybe it'll resolve the issue.. but either way, I'd try it first. If it doesn't solve the issue.. then for your sanity, *shrug*... a reset might be in your future.. ?

just in case anyone is in the same boat as me...


i went ahead and got MyBackup Pro, dowloaded all my apps to it, then did a factory reset (followed the steps from this site):

though its kind of a pain reconfiguring things (getting widgets and all back in the right places), it actually worked!

the text message order and the icons not lighting up unless you REALLY press them are still an issue, but im almost positive theyll get fixed when verizon sends out a patch or update sometime soon


the speed of the phone is a lot snappier now though since the reset, and the pictures load up as quickly as they did before on 2.1
also, i havent had the issue of not hearing anyones voice when making a call since i did the reset as well
most importantly, MY EMAILS SYNC AGAIN! i live and die by mobile email so this is a HUGE deal getting this fixed


like i said, all im waiting for now is the texts order and the icons thing to get fixed, but im happy with my DX again...

Where are you trying to view vids at? Try a site like metacafe.com or something maybe?

Like an embedded vid on engadget...videos aren't playing on metecafe either all I see is A blue cube a with a questions mark

2.2 update - now I have to enter a PIN

I have 3 email accounts on my phone: GMail, Yahoo & Corportate.

Apparently after the update the Corporate Sync forces me to enter a PIN whenever I answer a call, unlock the phone, etc.

I am going to delete the corporate account. I do have some questions:

Has this happened to anyone else?

If I re-add the corporate account, will I be forced to enter a PIN again?

My Backup Pro.

I spent $5 on Backup Pro, backed everything up and thought it was gonna work like a charm. Needless to say after playing around with phone for a while I needed to do a factory reset, wipe data/cache.

When I got phone back to normal I grabbed My Backup Pro file/folder with all the restore files. 1st, I didn't get all my data/apps back. And, 2nd, it didn't restore itself so I was out $5 bucks. Went into market and it didn't say purchased, tried everything.

This was from my experience w/My Backup Pro. So if you haven't done it yet I would think of a backup plan for your Backup Pro. JMO

To get the application back onto the phone you will need to reinstall it, it does not self install, as this is impossible on Android.

If you use the same Gmail account to activate the Android OS on the phone as the one you had when you made the purchase, you will be able to redownload it again for free.
Or you can use the phone's Internet browser to download the Pro version file (apk) from www.rerware.com/Android on the right hand side of the page there is a link. Then, activate it with your Google order number.
