~OFFICIAL: FRG01B FroYo Issues/Solutions Thread~

Froyo SUCKS my battery like a sponge........

I just forced to update my non rooted droid to 2.2 and ever since then my phone could only last as long as 6hrs even on idle. Back when it was 2.1 it can last the whole day and even through the next even before recharging but now it can't even go 6hrs. Any suggestions as to what to do? can i go back to 2.1?

Check to see if any apps are leaving a service open that drains your battery. When I was ruinning the FRG22 my battery was draining very fast. I noticed the GPS icon was active long after I shut down the app that was calling for GPS service. Reverting back to the FRG01b seemed tyo have solved that little problem. Was it the new versioon or some remnant of a bad install? I don't know. Butr my battery lasts all day and all night and still has 70% remaining this morning and I am running 2.2, so that is not the problem with your phone.

Nate

I actually had to dl the firmware 3 times since the first 2 kept giving me an error message. On the third try it finally worked with no issues but i did have to reinstall all widgets and apps. I'm starting to wonder if some apps are still running even though after i've killed them. There's really nothing different that i do day to day even back when it was still 2.1.

I noticed that after I added 2.2 that I can now go the NOAA website and actually have the looped maps using javascript work. But I also notice that if you load the looped map and just close the browser. It is still running in the background. If I looked at internal memory there was a big chunk missing. I went back to the browser and closed that window and got my memory back. I suspect that if I had left that map in the background churning, my battery would have gone pretty quickly.

if you have a task killer, get rid of it.

Android comes with it's own "background" task killer. not to mention 3rd party task killers have been known to cause battery problems.

Downloaded the force update 2.2 last night. Went very smoothly and I had no problems.

Right off, my sounds for ringtones and notifications were all changed. The phone kept going off and I couldn't figure out what was going on. Had to go in and manually re-select all of my notification sounds and ringtones. (Use Ringo Lite, still working in 2.2.) After taking the time to do that this morning, haven't had any more trouble with that.

Also downloaded the Flash 10 beta from the megaupload website and I haven't had any problems with that either. I use the Skyfire browser. Working beautifully!

Use LauncherPro and after I got rid of my live wallpaper (aquarium), things are much, much faster. It was pretty laggy with the live wallpaper.

I use Handcent for messaging and that has been working fine for the last 24 hours since the force update. That program is my absolute FAVORITE app that I have.

The major difference that I have encountered so far, is I can access my internet based work database now, which includes client information (name, address, phone), calendar, and webmail right from my browser, which I could not do before. Now, I don't need google calendar! I can access my own website directly! Before the update, the website was too large to access properly with my phone and most of the time the site would not even load. Not now!!! =D

I also got the error message about low memory right after the install. After deleting several apps I never used anyway, I haven't received that message again. I see I could have just deleted some old email messages...

I have the ShapeWriter keyboard, which is similar to Swype, and it is still functioning beautifully. I don't think that keyboard is available in the Market anymore, though. But if you already have it, it will still work after the update.

So far, so good...

While it sounds exciting, I'm scared to DEATH to root... I'm not THAT savy.

Next, I'm tackling the ChrometoPhone...

Screen orientation problems while in car dock.

Ever since upgrading to 2.2, I've had screen orientation problems while the phone is in the car dock. I have my car dock in the landscape position and after first placing the phone in the holder, everything is fine.

However, after making or receiving a phone call, the phone goes back into portrait mode and stays that way. Then everything is sideways. I've noticed that with 2.2 (and previous versions) the telephone app never rotates to landscape. But with previous versions, the phone always went back to landscape after the phone call ended. Not anymore.

Anyone else notice this issue? Is there a workaround for it?

No, no, no and NO way do I want to torture myself. So long as I hit ignore, install later, or no--this upgrade will not install by itself, right? I believe thoroughly in being the last to upgrade and you work out the kinks.

8/14/2010 Update:Updated this morning (Saturday) and as promised to the postee above me (Hook) all is well--thanks for your going first, your miseries, patience and all those working hard to fix the kinks and made the updates....I thank you..and feel like I held out well enough that those higher priorities in my life were well cared for during the upgrade that I kept declining. Life for me is normal because baseballs are being swung at, gloves are being thrown in the air to catch the ball, and my boys are learning and sweating it out at this 103 degree baseball clinic. Its a great day for....sigh...baseball.

Wondering if anyone else has this issue.

When I'm in an App and I press the home screen it's taking a long time (10 seconds perhaps) to reload the app shortcuts etc. on my home page. The page shows immediately but stays blank.

Various comments:
* Pressing home from another of the 5 home pages works fast
* Loading from the lock screen is fast
* 1 out of every 50 times it loads fast
* I have tried removing various widgets and nothing seems to make a difference except
* I have not removed my Folder organizer app folders since they take some time to setup. I am wondering if this could be a culprit since it needs to load all those folders on all the pages I assume

Here's my app list if anyone is having the same problem and looking for some common ground.

Any ideas ?

My Droid seems to be running slower. When in home screen, I have to wait a few seconds for my Widgets and apps to appear... are the two new pages doing this? Is it my live wallpaper?
I have a feeling that my solution is to go with a static wallpaper, or removed a widget or two. Anyone else getting this, or have a solution?

I'm definitely having this problem. I have removed all widgets and I use a simple black wallpaper and the problem persists.

I didn't see this mentioned in this thread, but if I missed it, sorry...

If you're a big movie viewer on your Droid, you may notice that many of the movie formats that worked on 2.01 and 2.1 no longer work on Froyo. Froyo no longer supports proprietary video codecs. Primarily all that is supported now is M4V (MP4) and MKV. This includes support for videos on the Web, so your browser will also fail to show many videos that are out there to see.

Under Ubuntu Linux (for PCs), there are libraries that are not included with the build that can be downloaded to provide support for these proprietary formats. Hopefully one day the same kind of thing will be available for Android.

There is a work around at this time. There is one video player product, named RockPlayer, that includes its own codecs and will play just about any movie format I've tried it with. RockPlayer can be found in the Market.
