****Official FroYo Rollout Thread-Version2!****

thanks everyone, esp furry mammal and hook, i did the manual update and all is well! used the larger file

What he said ... plus one to that.

My Droid is running fantastico with the larger file. I ran Quadrant immediately after updating, with 170 apps (showing low space) and 6-10 widgets running), and pulled a score of 868! This on a bone stock Droid! I also downloaded Flash and it is working.

I recommend manually updating using the larger file. It went smoothly for me anyway.

how do you get flash and install? does it require rooting?

One disappointing thing is I thought the update would change the notification bar to one like on the htc evo. Is this possible?

Does anyone have a list of what is actually new with the 2.2? Just got the update yesterday in South Carolina.

Thanks

Let me google that for you

Also, in MN, still haven't gotten the OTA update. 8-17-10.... one more day until I manually do it.

You know...after I asked that question, I realized how stupid it was...thanks for confirming my suspicions...LOL

:P I love using LMGTFY.

I just stopped in the verizon store to see what was up with the update...I am patiently waiting for the ota...I was in the neighborhood and thought I would check to see if they knew what was up and if they could dl it to my droid 1....they told me first that they can't do it at the store and then they told me the ota has been stopped again....he said that they got a notice yesterday that the ota was stopped...I just thought I would share this funny story with you guys...still waiting for the ota just outside of buffalo, ny...

Bummer, I'm still waiting for the OTA...

Since you opened the door, what benefit is moving apps to the SD card? Does it matter which ones are moved?
thanks.

It doesn't matter in performance, though you will occasionally run across an app that loses its custom icon if you put a shortcut on the desktop. Some apps may exhibit some strange behavior, but the only one I saw do that was SetCPU a few versions back when moving to the SD card would kill the profile option. That's been fixed and with 2.2 officially on several major phones the Devs have been updating their apps to allow for this weird behavior.

sorry if I'm behind on this thread, but is the original (45mb) OTA file still available to download manually, or is it now "obsolete"?

It's still available for download; if any one link you find is broken there are many others that work. I will supply a couple if you need one that's currently up. It's not obsolete, it just doesn't do as good a job as the larger file, and the larger file can be used to recover a bad install from the smaller file sometimes; even if the phone is locked in a boot loop. As long as you can get into recovery, the larger file might fix it.

Still havent got mine either. But if the frigging thing bricks mine. I'm going to the verizon and gonna cry about them killing my baby. Then I'm gonna demand a 2 or an X !

BTW: I think the updates are going to take longer than until tomorrow as announced
Just sayin'. These never go as planned

+1 on the rollout not being done or going as planned. And good luck getting a 2 or an X -- Verizon hasn't been giving out anything but Droid 1s to people who have had an update issue.

This thread is AWFULLY long, but can you do the 2nd update manually?

2nd update? You mean the one that was announced in a flier for phones already running 2.2 that was supposed to start tomorrow? It hasn't hit yet. If you mean the larger file that appeared at the same time the OTA was suspended, then the answer is yes. A link will be provided upon request.

My husband is still waiting for his, although I got mine last Wednesday. We are in GA. Very odd.

The update is random. Someone was saying earlier that he has two phones, one used as basically an iPod and the other his daily phone and the lesser-used one got updated while the other is still running 2.1. If he's tired of waiting he can force a manual update without voiding the warranty and with a lower chance of the install going bad.

Im in maryland and I have a tennessee number and I have not recived the update they need to hurry up with this? can you do it manually?

Yes.

I just got the update right before I opened this thread. Don't think I'm going to do it though because I don't want to lose root access.

There are rooted ROMs available for download and 2.2 can be rooted the exact same way 2.1 was.

how do you get flash and install? does it require rooting?

You download the .apk from the internet and install it via Astro.

One disappointing thing is I thought the update would change the notification bar to one like on the htc evo. Is this possible?

With rooting? Yes. Without rooting? There may be an app for that, I don't know. It might be worth cruising the market.

Why wait any longer? :)

Wow. Stopped again? I'm still going to give it until tomorrow, but, after then, and I still hear that it's been stopped....I'm going to go ahead and manually update. But if I do, will that void my warranty? Or is that only if I root?

Edit: Nvm. I see I can update manually w/o voiding the warranty.

Yup. It's the same file, does the same thing, and leaves the phone in the same state. If something happens that messes the phone up, it's THEIR software that did it, so THEY are responsible for it. :)

This is probably been answered a gajillion times, but if you do the update using either the large or small file it won't affect the ability to accept the supposed 2nd update OTA? If you manually install what will happen when the signal is sent OTA; will you get a notice or nothing?

Ya know, I love my droid 1 but I am just not that tech savvy. I actually tried to dl the update 3 times this morning and I got errors all three times. So instead of asking a million dumb questions and getting flamed by the root guys and uber tech guys i have decided to wait. I am cool with that.
