[Official] R2-D2 [D2] Owners Thread

I just got the R2D2 a week ago and I was trying to customize some items and I dont know how I did it, but here is my problem.

Camera Widget w/ Vader is gone. I went and used it to take a photo and suddenly the widget image changed to that photo, so I deleted that photo, but widget image was still the deleted photo, so I deleted the widget and tried to add it again, but now it is not allowing me to add the widget without any photos.

Was there preloaded images that I deleted for this widget? Is there a way I get download or get the Vader image back?

Just isnt the same without that image. Thanks in advance for any help, Newbie.

I had the exact same thing happen - couldn't find the Vader picture. I actually did a factory reset in order to get it back. A little drastic I admit, but I like that picture there.

Here's how Droid 2: Hard Reset

Other than that, I can't tell you much more. I've even rooted my phone and dug deep into each and every folder and couldn't find that picture anywhere. I think it's hard coded into the widget.

I know this was of little help, but if you haven't done much to the phone, the hard reset did work for me.

Enjoy the phone!

Just switched to the R2D2 Droid 2 from a Samsung Alias today, so far so good except that my Vader image also mysteriously disappeared when I took a photo with my camera. I googled a bit and it seems to have cropped up enough that I wonder if it's something with the software?

Anyway. Love the phone so far minus the fact you can't mute the boot sound. I am way paranoid that it will be going off in classes, interviews, etc., so I guess I'll have to just keep it powered off during important stuff. Tried plugging in headphones to see if that would mute it manually... no dice. =/

Anyway, can't wait to get used to using Android and having a smartphone! There's so much more STUFF on this phone already compared to everything else I've had, and it's all mostly empty widgets.

A custom ROM will solve that problem. But then again, you might be one of the ones who actually likes the StarWars mess. I am not.

Guess I'm part of the community now. My D1 broke and I paid $105 to get this beauty. Originally I was pissed because of the whole eFuse thing but I worked my way around that :)

I do have a question though: I'm using the 16GB SD card from my old phone, I've used A2SD a few times and I'd like to know which folder all my old apps would be located on. I'd like to remove them since they're taking up space.

Thanks again!

I deleted everything I didn't want on the card by mounting it to my mac. You might want to look in sdcard/data/apps I'm not 100% sure though...

Okay I've been messing around with my picture frame widget to see if I can figure out what is going on with it. When I moved it to a different part of the homescreen, it seemed to reset and deleted the "front image" (which was originally the Vader image but then became the first picture I took, which had also been deleted from the phone).

Can someone whose picture widget is working describe to me what the Vader thing is? Is it just a picture, or is it a video or something? Is there any way I can redownload/reset it? I looked under Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All just to see if I could determine what the file title might be, and found "The Empire Strikes Back" (different than "Star Wars ESB Binoculars") though it appears to be using 0.00B, and I can't find it in any other menus/search.

(Should I post about this in the help forum instead? I figured it would be relevant here and someone may know more than I.)

There is actually this one problem. I didn't want to repost it here because I didn't know if we were allowed to discuss rooting here. But seeing a few people have already, I am having a random reboot problem. I actually went into more detail on another thread - Phone keeps randomly rebooting, mostly on screen lock

Hope you guys can help.

EDIT: One more thing... "R2D2" LOL still learning the code of conduct around here :)
EDIT: Just tried a ROM Manager "Fix Permissions"...let's see how that holds up.

Actually, that has nothing to do with rooting the phone. My phone would randomly reboot even before I rooted it (and has occurred less after - but still happens). You may also notice that the phone will lock up sometimes, usually after you unlock it. I think this is just an issue with the phone itself. I have noticed that if you try to unlock it immediately after disconnecting it from power (or PC), it tends to get really confused and needs to be rebooted.

I do wish someone would find an answer to the "Darth Vader Picture Widget" issue that everyone seems to have. Like I posted before, a factory reset fixed it, but now after 3 months, I have WAY to much stuff on the phone to do that again.

Sorry I didn't have a better answer for you on the random reboot issue. Just know that it isn't because of rooting.

Welcome to the forum!

So is the photo widget Vader thing just a pic, then? If so I'm not really going to concern myself about it too much.

Is there any support forum/error submission form or anywhere to ask Google/Verizon about the issue?

What exactly do they say? I'm curious as I haven't received any negative comments.

new r2 owner here too. damned cool phone that's for sure.

Received many compliments and been called 'nerd burger' for having this phone. Come to find out the guy who called me nerd burger plays WoW on his phone so he can't talk.

Other Droid boards (won't mention them here) as well as a lot of other sites had a TON of negative comments about the phone - well, not the actual hardware, but the fact that it's R2-D2. I posted some of the comments earlier to this thread, really don't need to post them again. But if you want to see some, look for my post and then Google R2-D2 Android phone. Read some of the comments people left (most are before the phone was even released).

Just an FYI - nobody has said anything directly to me - in fact, I find it's a great conversation starter.

Not sure if it's just a picture... Like I mentioned, I've rooted my phone and have searched diligently for it - scoured every sub-folder, hidden folder and the like. I can only surmise that the picture is (a) hard coded into the widget or (b) in some format other than a standard picture (and subsequently named something unusual).

I thought about asking Google/Verizon, but I'm not really sure who is responsible for the widget (or any of the other content for that matter). For now, I just leave the widget, try never to touch it and use either the camera button or camera app.
