OTA Updates Possible Before The 11th?

I agree, wholeheartedly, however Verizon's actions have never shown they're willing to do that. Try getting updates for the original Blackberry Storm (out for a little over a year at this point) or the LG EnV 1 or 2!

Verizon, at the end of the day, is all about making $$$. If they can do that by releasing phone "sequels" as soon as possible, they'll risk pissing off a handful of customers. Odds are, like most of us, 99% will stick with Verizon because there isn't much choice. It's just nice to have devices that people can live with, without support, like the Droid.

...to avoid bogging down vzw's network. it's also possible google doesn't have the infrastructure to rollout mass updates, so they have to perform them in batches.
i did a little bit more reading on this... seems vzw is really in control of the whole situation. i get the reasons, but if vzw ever decides that the DROID is an outdated phone, and it still works great for the rest of us, we'll all be scewed.

I've got news for you. Verizon has probably already decided that this is an outdated phone. Seems that, despite their 2-year long contracts, the lifespan of a VZW branded phone is about 6 months. That being said, I'd be completely happy with this phone for the next 2 years with NO OS updates, as long as the app development continued at this pace.

Well, this sounds more like personal opinion then fact. I'll keep this phone at least until the Droid 2 comes out.:)

I was thinking last night that this update is rolling out very similar to the way TiVo rolls out it's updates to their DVR's. There is no rhyme or reason to the roll out. Since there is no "preferred sign up list" available there is nothing we can do about it except be patient and accept the fact that it will get here when it gets here.

I know that's not going to stop anybody from complaining, so keep those "I haven't received it" post coming. I'll bet a lot of people were waking up in the middle of the night and checking their phones.;)

See VZW DOESN"T want to piss thier customer soff. Even with a sequel phone. Right before the Storm2 was released VZW was the first carrier to release a 5.0 OS of r a BB on a national level. They knew if the released the S2 with the improved OS they would piss a lot of people off. So they got it done. I think we will all be pleasently surprised as the droid continues it's growth. With 2.0.1 out for the droid and 2.0.x coming to the Eris and I think the G1 also. Support will be on going for a while. I do think there will be a sequel but not right away. It may actually take longer than usual

with all of the positive reports of the 2.0.1 update, i'm curious to see what the Jan update will address and if it will make things better or worse.

i'm definitely getting anxious for my update.

Well there have already been slated 2 updates for the phone. While it may not get many more updates after that, who knows. But the first 2 are much needed, seeing as they were suppose to fix alot of problems. The second update is rumored to be 2.1, which really wouldn't surprise me much because the other phones supposed to come out around that time, have been shown with 2.1 on them.

OTA = Over The Air.

You'll get a popup notification on your phone when it's your turn. All you have to do is basically click "okay" or whatever to download it when it appears. Now it's just a bunch of sitting around and waiting.

I think the object is to make things better, not worst.

I hate to use the Storm as a comparison but in the 3 updates that were officially released by Verizon for the Storm all 3 made the Storm a better phone. True RIM did screw up a little bit of this and a little bit of that but overall the phone got better with each update.

Really it's a poor comparison because I'm using apples and oranges with the two platforms. Point is I think future updates will make it even better.

How do you get the update via OTA?
What determines when you get the update?

I have not noticed any request to update last night and this morning nothing.
I activated a little over a week ago does that matter?

Confucius say: read all post answer will appear

Somewhere on the second or third page. Better read the first three to be sure you get all the information you need.

Well if the rumors are true about the jan update being 2.1, there may actually be a couple of bugs where they weren't before, but of course it will fix other things. So who knows. Will have to wait until it gets here.

Is there any rhyme or reason as to the order?
Since I activated last Monday should I expect to receive it Friday, or how dose it work?
Sorry for the green questions but Ive been a lifer with blackberry's.

This is different.

Thanks

Too bad that that received didn't share the update with the rest of us. I hope the next to get it is someone that would do that.
