OTA Updates Possible Before The 11th?

mods, You keep pointing people with useful findings and fixes to this thread and locking their thread. The least you could do is clean up this thread and keep it on subject.

I think, for the most part, that the findings and fixes were all noted in the first few pages of this thread. I can't imagine, especially with how few people have actually gotten this, that this MINOR update is really going to have that much that hasn't already been pointed out.

In reality, this thread probably won't take of until Friday, when everyone finally gets the update.

Too bad that that received didn't share the update with the rest of us. I hope the next to get it is someone that would do that.

Share the update?

This is an OTA update. There's really nothing to share, except maybe findings, and there's already a thread dedicated to that.

Actually someone posted a way to share the update:

If anyone does get the update could you try the following before you install it?

*Click install and update
*Once the phone reboots (before you get to the recovery screen) pull the battery out.
*Pull out the microSD card and put in a memory card reader.
*See if there is a update.zip on the microSD card
*If there is please upload it to rapidshare and post a link here

After you do that you should be able to power back on the phone with the SD card and the update should continue. If you don't want to update you should be able to delete the update.zip and continue on without the update.

So it's a hit or miss type thing? Doesn't sound like the process is a definite, workable, thing. I fried enough OS'es doing this kind of crap on my Storm. I think I'll just let the process take its course, and not bother trying to jury-rig the update onto my phone.

Your response doesn't make any sense, because there is not that many findings and fixes it is ok to fill this thread with useless info? this post and all other post that have nothing to do with findings and fixes need deleted.

Or we can create 400 threads that say the same thing. Which is worse at this point? As stated just about all the "Findings" have been found, seeing as they pretty much came right out and said what was being fixed. So with the exception of a small finds here and there, everything else has been found.

Amen on that. I've had enough of fooling around and bricking my phone to last a lifetime.

I'll just wait for the OTA. It's not like the phone isn't great as is.

It actually can be done with ANY Android device as long as the signed update.zip file is grabbed from the device before its removed after the update.

I am hoping there is someone who has done this before on the G1 that is able to grab it for the DROID.

Its a very easy process to apply the update and doesn't force you to wait.

Is there something to look for on the phone, other than system updates?

My phone woke up about fifteen minutes ago and, along with the GPS icon, there was a message in the status bar that said "Preparing SD Card". The GPS icon flashed for a bit and then went away. A couple of minutes later, it came back on and flashed for a bit and then went away. I thought I'd left a map running so I opened Task Killer and no map was open but I shut down all of the usual apps. Difference is, this time, instead of the usual 78M or so of available memory, I now have 114M of available memory.

No idea if it's related or not.

Preparing SD Card is normal start-up procedure. Shut it down and restart and you will notice it every time. I also learned, that, not only will taskiller help clear apps/memory, but yes you are correct - when you clear your apps, you get x amount of memory, but if you then shut the phone down, upon restart there is much more. Proabably just refreshing/clearing things over and above just the apps you selected prior to shut down.

Thanks, zegolf! I'll be very careful.

It was strange because it didn't reboot or anything and the amount of memory is the only difference I've noticed so far. I have the stock Home app running with only the search widget on one of the screens.

I guess there are some things that are only meant for the Droid to know.

Roc Droid - I think the concern here is that your phone did in fact reboot itself for some reason. I've heard that before. The results you mentioned are from start-up/reboot. The fact that it did it on its own (I would check to see if you somehow triggered it?), is the issue I'd pay attn to...
