Overclock - A REAL new phone experience.

I've used 800mhz, 900mhz, 950mhz, 1ghz, and 1.1ghz and all have been flawless. I finally settled on 1ghz and haven't have any problems with it (been running 1ghz for a few days now).

Jhank, how did you install? Did you do a complete and total clean install and then manually install from the Market every single app?

I was having some USB reboot issues. Luckily I have a good copy of a nandroid backup so I can get back to my "regular" status at any time. Still tinkering with it...

Wanted to throw my two cents in -- running Bugless Beast at 800Mhz with SetCPU keeping the freq low in sleep. Battery life is good and the speed is awesome. The new browser w/multitouch and smooth scrolling + increased speed = incredible internet experience.

If you are not computer saavy or tech inclined, I would stay away. While the instructions are very easy, I ran into some technical issues with the 2.01 ROM download that were a little tricky.

I am currently running at 800mhz and got a nice temp app from alldroid. Yesterday my max temp hit 107F.

Is that dangerous for my phone? If not, what would be considered a dangerous temp?

As far as if its dangerous or not I'm not sure but that does seem high compared to what others are reporting. I have mine Oc'ed to 900 Mhz and I'm seeing constant temps between 27-35C(80-95F). I doubt you are hurting anything, I believe Motorola recommends using it in a max outside temp of 113F, so you should def be ok.

Lol, I guarantee the FCs were from something else, I've been running stable at 950mhz since it came out and there's guys who are stable at 1.1ghz, never heard of 800mhz messing anyone up but I guess your chip could have come off a bad wafer.

Hello....I have rooted my phone and would like to run it at 800mhz.......can you tel me how to or where I can find directions to get this to run at 800mhz?? Thank you.

Thanks to gentlefury

Thanks, gentlefury, for the response and the backup. It works great.

Hey Gentle Fury - Does your backup actually make the Droid overclockable to 800 when installed as a Nandroid restore or does it need to be applied after installing a new kernel/ROM? Thanks in advance for helping out and for providing the backup files.

Brio

If you can get it to a point of doing a nandroid restore you can use my backup....I've built it over the past month from things that have been cool...no custom rom tho, so its really really fast.

800MHz_glass_vkb-BS-20100128-0226.zip

includes, root/busybox, 800Mhz, Mobile Defense in System, Voice Keyboard, Glass Theme, and removes corp cal, email and visual voice mail (they are all still there, just need to be renamed if they need to be restored), and wifi tether (you still have to install the APK application, but it is ready to go)

I tried bugless beauty 800Mhz and it was really slow in comparison.

Yes all the work is done, install that and you will be running at 800Mhz....best to get SetCPU tho so you can set profiles for sleep downclocking.

@blitz -

Try this:
Power down
Pull battery
Push and HOLD the power button for 10 secs
Replace battery
Turn it on

-report results :)

BTW - which version did you use? Bugless Beast?

well today i did a backup and went back to just 2.0.1 OC root with smoked glass. will go back after school and do what you said. thanks. and i used evilboot8

well..

i installed this earlier expecting something epic.. and.. its slow. im at 800 mhz. and i have had 1 reboot. with NUMEROUS force closes. it says memory available is 10k... out of like 230k... idk whats going on. phone takes forever to come up. its just.. slow. its good. everything added in is great. but it just.. runs crappy. no offense. i just dont know whats going on. before this i had busybox, glass, etc.. 800 mhz. and it ran smooth. very smooth. but now its choppy. and the milestone browser it comes with is weird. every time i scroll the text becomes really thin. and then i stop and it goes away

help?

Here bro, follow this link and follow instructions. You must have messed something up along the way. Good news is, you can go back to where you were.

Let me know if it works out. It should. Read the posts, some people had a few issues but it seems they all got back to stock 2.01.

Yes, you can do all of this on a mac. No, it is not any "safer" to do this on a PC. Doing it on either OS is risky if you don't know what you're doing.

thank you JhankG....

I've read several times from cplus post and don't know if the steps are all the same (PC or Mac)? should I follow same steps on a Mac?

Sorry to bug...

Can someone Please PM me instructions on how to overclock to 800mhz. I am rooted. what is the best app to use and how do i do it. please send me the best way to do it. thanks

So, after a few days of running 800mhz and then using my own custom setup, I find it no faster than 550mhz, so I've gone back to the original kernel, which also doesn't have some of the backlight quirks I've found with the overclock kernels.

Now I will say that 800mhz was way faster than 550mhz on some of the other ROMs out there, like Bugless Beast and AdamZ's smoked glass ROM. On my own configuration, it makes little difference.
