PSX4Droid => General Discussion

My first post and I've signed up to this forum because of this application and the droid/milestone :)

I must say the psx4droid is my favorite app on my phone that made a good use of the physical keyboard and the dpad of the droid/milestone.

I have a motorola milestone (telus) rooted and overclocked to 1.2ghz.
I've tried several games of my interest and I'll post the once that played well on my device.

- Bomberman World
- Resident Evil 3
- Final Fantasy VII & IX
- Parasite Eve
- Grandia
- Chrono Cross
- Xenogears
- Breath of Fire IV
- Tetris
- Capcom vs Marvel
- Street Fighter Alpha 3
- Hot Shot 2
- Tenchu 2
- Metal Gear Solid VR
- Megaman 8
- Wipeout XL
- Warcraft 2
- Etc...

I'm sure more games will run fine with psx4droid.

One thing I noticed that with stock droid/milestone speed the games are laggy to my liking. Must be overclocked to be able to play the games well.

My Droid1 runs the few games I've tried fine.
FF7
Twisted Metal 2
Driver 2
Colin McRae Rally 2

I have used LV 100mhz-1ghz P3 kernel with no freezes. I am currently on LV 250mhz-1.1ghz P3 kernel with no freezes. dancedroid

Occasionally games with a lot going on will slow it down but it's still playable. Running Sapphire 1.0. Battery life is horrid but o well. Can't have it all I suppose :)

I am running lithium mod evodroid w/ LV 1.25ghz p3 kernel, usually clocked down to 1ghz max 700 min when gaming. I guess it's your droid because i don't have overheating or freeze problems. I did tweak some settings in psx4droid to fix the distorted sound and sometimes choppy gameplay, but overall i haven't done anything too far from the norm. Only time my droid gets hot is when i run flash videos online.

Modded games?

Has anybody had any luck running modded games on the emulator? I decided to try patching my Final Fantasy Tactics game with the Final Fantasy Hacktics mod, since its advertising of making the game more balanced/challenging seemed pretty good to me. However, when I ran the ROM, very soon into the first battle the game crashes and goes to the ROM select screen. I tried running the same ROM (patched/modded) on a PS emulator for the PC (ePSXe), and it runs fine. So I tried getting past the place it was messing up, transferring the save to my phone, and running it from there, but again it messes up very soon into the next battle. Is there anything special I need to do to run games modded such as this, or has anybody had any luck running things of this nature? Or does the emulator just not have whatever is needed to run a altered version of a game (considering it worked perfectly on my computer)?

I'm running a rooted Evo loaded with DamageControl v5.5, no custom kernel or anything. Thanks in advance!

I can't even get it to run, tried many bios files. Used a program to uncompress from that ECM format from bin.ecm to iso. I know FFVII is confirmed working and I can't even get that to boot. All I get is a black screen. I have heard of some getting the controls onscreen with a black screen but I can't even get that far. Any suggestions?

I get the same problem with the ISO format. Try coonverting from .bin.ecm to bin or from ISO to bin. bin files work well for me.

Although, after reading EBoot files don't have the audio crakcling I am going to try converting to that format next.

Just updated by Droid to Cryangenmod RC3 and PSX4Droid does not work :( It still works on the nightly builds. Doesn't that seem odd?

Is anyone else running a 1.1GHz kernel or higher on Droid1?
For the people that have psx4droid running good on their droid can you tell me your settings, rom, and kernel etc.

Thanks

I'm running rooted "stock" FRF01 at 1GHz. For awhile, my phone would freeze and reboot after playing a few minutes of any resource-heavy game. I solved this by switching from ChevyNo1's ultra-low-voltage kernel to his low-voltage kernel. No more problems.

If you're using ULV, try LV. If you're using LV, try MV.

- simply install the apk.
- put the iso file of a psx game somewhere on the sd card.
- put the bios file somewhere on the sd card.
- start psx4droid
- it will as for bios file - search it with the psx4droid integrated file browser.
- hit menu, load a iso. youre done.

Is there ever going to be an update to this app?

Thats what we're all wondering...

I kinda figured this would happen though, considering Zodttd's stellar reputation in the iPhone community (sarcasm).

It's always been an awkward relationship with him. We all appreciate him for bringing these apps to us, but hate him for lack of support and high pricing.

If your current ROM wont read the Bin's and you swear you have done everything...try a different ROM..if all works well then you know its your ROM and not psx...then i switched back to older ROM and flashed the "market fix 2"..all good now :) try it even if your market seems ok

I have a whole set up for PSX4Droid. I use SetCPU to 800MHz, plug my phone in, use headphones, and then activate Bluetooth and turn on WiimoteController. sync a wiimote and "Classic Controller" extension. I find at 800MHz the games are playable and actually run faster if you turn off sound (Turn on music or something) and it will not overheat. The game is MUCH easier to play instead of with the keyboard with the Wii Controller. Just my $0.02.
