[ROM] ApeX 1.3.1 for Droid X - Running, running, as fast as it can (12/16/10)

ok got another total noob question for you all. I am running the stock rom on the .340 update. I really like all I am reading about this rom but kinda reluctant to do the data/cache wipe. I also read somewhere that you should do a factory reset before installing. That is out of the question for me. Too many apps to lose if that is the case. Can someone tell me if this is really needed to install this rom whether thru rom manager or dl it to the sd.

Thanks in advance!

another thing to consider if you want to start flashing roms is to invest in a backup utility. i personally use my backup pro. some people prefer titanium backup. it's invaluable, especially when you start switching as going from one developer's rom to another will sometimes require you to wipe all your info.

Do most people here feel the bootstrapper backup isn't sufficient?

Bootstrapper backup is great, but serves a specific purpose. To get your phone back to the state it was in at the time of backup. Exactly the same state. You can do partial restores, but only of the different partitions. Doing a restore of data on a fresh rom might cause problems (at least the same you would have had if you had not wiped data)

Titanium backup and the others will allow you to backup your apps and app data, and restore then granularly. So I can choose to only restore Angry Birds data so I wont' loose my progress, but I don't have to restore contacts data as the app may now be different depending on the rom.

If you go into settings -> privacy, there are checkboxes to make sure google backs up your apps and stuff. Basically if activated, when you install a new rom and login to your gmail account, it'll automatically start restoring your apps. Not the data though, so logins or game progress is lost. That's where a backup app like Titanium comes in.

Just be sure not to restore any system data. Sure, you'll have to reset ringtones and notifications, but that's better than being forced into a brand new install because you restored something you shouldn't have.

perhaps my newness caused me to waste $4.99, but i didn't know that bootstrap/rom manager could backup apps and data only. i thought it created an entire system backup, which would be (i thought) useless switching from one rom to another.

edit: nevermind, plower cleared that up for me

Data wipe IS a factory reset. Don't worry about all your apps going away, they'll all re-download automatically once you load the rom and input your google account info. Or back them up with titanium if you are paranoid. I've wiped my phone a TON from all the rom experimenting I've been doing and I've yet to lose an app except z4root which was pulled from the market. That one was easy enough to grab from XDA or titanium.

As for whether you need to install this rom. Well no lol, noone is holding a gun to your head. You don't need to root either but the phone will be way more useful if you do. Now if you ask me should you install this rom or one of the other similar roms that removes the bloat/blur and makes the phone ridiculously fast and responsive my answer is a resounding hell yes! Going back to stock Froyo after running a well developed rom just plain sucks.

So at the current moment there is no full DROID X 2.3.340 SBF to flash back to stock in one shot (for people that got the OTA update)?

Correct, there is not, however you can use the.320 sbf and then apply the. 340 system only sbf, or use the individual files from team black hat on mydroidworld.

Also for some reason pressing the lock button doesent keep the screen locked. If you lock it, when the screen is black if you press any other button it will wake the phone back up. Anyone else have this issue?

Only if you hit another button within like 5 seconds ...

That's intentional. If you wait, only the unlock or home button will unlock the phone.

*Locks phone*......waits 10 secs....Presses camera button, still sleep, volume button - still sleep... Presses home key phone wakes up...

Tries again... waits 20 secs... Presses search button, phone wakes up.

Seems like any home key will wake up the phone up... Which my holster presses on the button from time to time, any coding to fix this fab?

My phone definitely does not behave this way.

That's the SBF I used before the latest OTA came out I think. I can flash that and then just OTA it? hrmm I better do some reading before I break something.

find the update.zip of the OTA and put it on your sd card. then all you have to do is flash the 2.3.32 full sbf, reboot into recovery, and apply the update.zip. that's how i went from 2.3.15>2.3.32>2.3.340

Ok so i tried overclocking my phone, but i must've set the frequency too high and it now reboots constantly. i tried doing a factory reset by formatting the data and the cache, but it still loads up ApeX 1.3.1 and continues to reboot. Any Ideas?

So let me get this straight (as I haven't tried to flash my phone since .15 and other might look for it here).

My cell is on .340. From here I can SBF with the 2.3.32 FULL. After that I use the .340 system SBF and Im good to go?
