[ROM] ApeX for Droid X - An AOSP Experience

I installed this rom. Seems to be running great. My only gripe is that the stock "messaging" app (one with the mailbox icon) is nowhere to be found on phone.... I really need this cause I have multiple pop3 accounts, yahoo, gmail, etc..... it was nice having them all in one place.

But the rom otherwise is excellent.

New to the forum but long time reader.
So hello all!.
I'm running Apex rc2, it's running very nice.
Camera and cam working. Gmail working, I don't seem to have any issues at all.
Ok question. Do I need to get the v1. Just got everything set up.
also would I just follow the same steps as first time as if I had not installed apex at all.
Thank you team apex

Battery - Time without signal

Been running RC1 RC2 V1 and battery hasnt been great. Don't get me wrong I'm loving these Fab ROMS! Just would like to contribute anything that could help.

Anyway since I've been keeping up with and have read every post I haven't seen anyone mention the time without signal. I remember that being an issue of importance on XDA with eris phones when the first custom ROMs were being released. As I recall the devs there were associating the time without signal to higher battery usage. Just something I noticed in battery manager. I'm not qualified to know if this could help battery drain if addressed or not.

Anyone with a some knowlege about this please reply.

I went to v1 and am in a low signal area as well. I noticed that my battery dropped quicker than normal. I was overclocked tho with the rom defaults. I disabled the oc and rebooted today so I'll see how things go this weekend.

Do you have 50% time without signal? That's a strange bug dating all the way back to the D1 roms too.

The easiest fix is to put the phone into airplane mode for like 30 seconds. Doesn't hurt to do a *22899 afterwards either.

OK everyone who is running this sick clean ROM
if you want to have some fun and see how fast you can get your phone
try this little experiment. Using root explorer navigate to system/build.prop
make sure root explorer is set to mount R/W then long press on build.prop and open in text editor. then find the dalvik heap size it should be set to 32m
change that to like 60m or even more. save and exit and then reboot your phone

now if you don't have this app you should get it it makes rebooting easy go to the market and get hot reboot. this app is great for the DX

Edit: also understand that if you do this and run quadrant your score will be really low
thats because quadrant and other benchmark testers are designed to test your system running a separate graphics app IE game and by uping the dalvik heap size you are limiting the amout of ram available to the GPU to run games but the over all speed of the Android system will be faster because the system now has more ram to swap in an out with. UNDERSTAND
and this wont affect your games as most of the games force the OS into the background and what ram is left should be plenty for any game you will play.

what does dalvik heap vm do or control? i like speed!:icon_ banana:

Yes sir 50% and I do remember the airplain fix now but as I recall there was also a fix doing something in settings "about phone" then changing evdo, cdma or some kind of network defaults. of course I'm agaian refering to XDA eris forums. I want to say it was a fix posted by T2Noob? Anyway it is strange this would reappear on 2.2? I did your suggestions and rebooted so I'll give it while and repost with results.

PREESH!

EDIT: Hopefully fixing my "time without signal" will improve battery drain?
Wonder if anyone else is at 50% ?

My battery is terrible too. Down to 50% after 5 hours! I am not 100% certain it is the ROM, it might be the new WinAmp app I installed. But still...

Strange thing is I was having problems with 1.3 I typed in "rmmod overclock.ko" re did -oc and now no problems just thought id share
