[HACKS] Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

I'm a complete Noob and have not fully explored the capabilities of my Droid. I've had it for a few months now, but have done nothing other than download a few apps from the market. Thanks for the write up and easy to follow directions on how to root. I did this last night with no poblems at all. Now I look forward to seeing what can really be done with this phone.

Awesome!

Thanks MC! This is a great way to root -- I just dusted off my D1 with stock FRG22D on it, and this method worked perfectly. It's safer than other methods, and quicker.

I had a Droid 1 w/Bugless Beast v0.4 + NexTheme and LOVED it. THEN, I got a D2, and had it for about a month, and finally called Verizon tonight to get them to re-activate my original Droid.

Fact: I missed my Droid. But not anymore!! dancedroid

I got through everything to the update file with no problem. Currently I can get into the special recovery where I would install the motocache file (renamed of course). When I select to install the file I get an error message something like this...

finding update
opening update
verifying update
cant open /sdcard/update.zip
(bad)
Install aborted

I am 100% positive that it is renamed corectly to update.zip not .zip.zip. I follow every word of this post exactly. I followed all instructions while in the recovery sreen including verifying mount options etc...

I am running FRG22D. Any thoughts?

Sounds like it could be a corrupted file. Redownload the update.zip and try again

Thank you very much, your guide was very direct. It was also very very simple. You are quite popular it seems. I did a lot of research before I did it, and I found a link to this thread in several forums.

Anyway, I really appreciate the time you put into this.

I am having problems getting my computer to recognize my phone in step 7. My situation is:

*Windows 7 Professional
*Newest motorola drivers (downloaded from link on thread) installed
*Computer restarted several times
*Phone restarted several times and loaded into boot loader
*Running RSD Lite as administrator
*Tried switching RSD Lite to 'first-come-first-serve...' mode

I cannot see my phone under my computer and cannot see it in the RSDLite.

Does anyone have other suggestions of what I can do to get my computer to recognize my phone?

Have you tried another USB port? Is it plugged into a hub or directly into the computer?
Have you ever plugged your Droid into your computer? Did it recognize it then?
I might try uninstalling the drivers and see if it tries to see it then.
Are you running as an admin?
Also try booting into stock recovery and see if it recognizes it.
I'm guessing you have no problems with other USB devices?

updating Milestone 2.1 to FroYo 2.2 with Cynogen Mod 6

Dear furrbearingmammel,
I found somebody updated their Milestone 2.1 to FroyYo 2.2 with Cynogen Mod 6.I also want to do the same.I am from India and mine is an unrooted 2.1 with custom update recently.I have approached a mobile software expert here with this requuest and handed over to thim my phone and a cd in which Cynogen Mod6 was downloaded. After about one week of rigorous trials he handed back to me the phone saying the installation of Cynogen in the phone is not possible. But I cannot accept this. Also, being a layman ,I cannot do it myself. Can you suggest a way to accomplish my wish?Waiting to hear from with thanks,

Will "rooting" my phone make my internet experience faster? Also, will my apps stay intacked after I've rooted? (I realize these questions have probably been asked/answered several times on this forum, but I'm pretty overwhelmed with all this already). Thx.

Wont really make your internet faster. But all of your apps will still be there yes!

PS to previous poster don't quote 500 words of text.
