rubiX Focused 1.6

Sounds like an easy fix... probably a necessary one as well. Drod?

Because of the way apps are signed, there is no easy way to "install" an app via a ROM, that can then be upgraded via the Market. The app would have to be placed on the SDCard in a folder, and manually installed, for example.

This was on my list of things to find a way to do.. if anyone has additional info on how to install an app to /data/app, via patch/ROM/etc., and still have that app be able to be updated via Market, PLEASE share that info!

Sephtin,

I'm looking for instructions on how to use this, but I've seen reference to a /preinstall directory.

On my X there is indeed a /preinstall directory. inside it there are several subdirs. /preinstall/app & /preinstall/md5.
I believe if you put the 'market' version of an APK in /app along with an md5 sum, you should be able to preinstall apps.
The trick is I don't know how to 'initialize it' or when it gets called/run, etc.
However, since sephtin is the script guy, I thought you could take that info and figure out the rest :)

hey hey, could one of you let me know where to find the image/xml file to change the color away from black in the mean time, until we can mod the apks? just looking for the filename or line within the xml file if there is one, i can do the rest.

As i have never ever installed a rom before in my life i cant stand the lag and slowness of the stock DX i have. What exact tools will i need to flash this and any rom on my phone? I mean how exactly do you install these roms? What are the chances of bricking your phone doing these roms?
Also what is SBF mean?

Let me just say... I was really impressed with 1.6 on release day. It was immediately a decent upgrade from 1.0, which was of course a huge leap above previous versions and other roms!

But after using 1.6 for a few days now, I find this rom simply amazing. It's just the best thing since sliced bread. Please keep it up, Drod! I see bright things in your future and the future of this rom! Sending a donation now!

Ps cant wait for hotspot fix, and incognito looks great on top of 1.6!

You will need to root your phone. Then you need to bootstrap your recovery to boot in to Clockwork recovery (Droid X Recovery Bootstrap - Android app on AppBrain).

Then you can use ROM Manager (ROM Manager - Android app on AppBrain) to make a backup of your rooted stock image (where you are now). <-- PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP

Then download the ROM and follow the instructions in the first post. You might also want to make a backup of your app data, for example, if you want to keep your Angry Birds progress. Titanium Backup ? root - Android app on AppBrain

There is a slim chance of bricking your phone if you do things the right way. Just be warned, this is dangerous and not for the feint of heart.

You need to root your phone (rootz wiki, google search)
Then, bootstrap recovery ( droid x bootstrap on market )
Then install rubix 1.6 ( this thread, first post )

All directions are in the same posts as the downloads. Follow them all to the letter and theres no chance you can brick your phone. If you do brick, you can sbf back to stock. You can google that or find posts about it.

Boot into clockwork recovery by clicking Recovery Reboot in Droid X Bootstrapper. And do this preferably while plugged into an AC outlet.

Did that but it just rebooted back to my home screen like normal?

Ok so I manually installed the launcher2.apk in the system/apps folder fixed the permissions and BOOM!

Sent from my DROIDX using DroidForums App

So how would I go about over clocking this rom with out the jrummy script?

I like the ease of it. But I would like to set different speeds and be able to fine tune the voltages a little more.

Also Not sure if its been mentioned. But there was a few lines of a script post for Focused 1.0 that sped it up. Is that applied automatically in this one? Or is there anything like that we can do?

So interestingly I cant download the update for facebook. The install is unsuccessful. Turns out that facebook is in the system/apps. Is this why I cant get the update? Any reason for it to be there? Can I just change the .apk--->bak and install the app where it belongs?
Thanks

I just had my first random reboot with 1.6.. It was after I took the phone off of the wall charger.. The battery icon still looked like it was charging, I tried changing homescreens and the phone did the quick reboot.
