Seidio 2600mAh extended battery

Update: full charge since 8-9 hrs and it looks like 3944mv is my max. 6:35 hrs till depleation. 100% charged. Damn, looks like I'll have to contact support after all.... I was really hoping that it would improve on its own.

don't go by the battery left settings till you've had a chance to "prove" it.
In other words.... on the first discharge battery left will guess how much longer you have and it will even say "accurate" but its not.

Not until you actually run your battery down will it learn what the real story is.

I recalibrated and right now mine says 5:05 hours left and "accurate" and my mv reading is 3753 and I gurantee you I have "lots more" than 5 hours left!

This is my first dicharge since my last recalibrate.
Matt prob needs to have it not say Accurate till its really accurate.. cause its not till that first dicharge and even the first "few" discharges are complete.

I"m sure I will end up with another 20 hours or so instead of the "five" that battery left reports so don't worry yet.

Now, if you do a complete discharge once and charge back up and battery left says that then you have issue with with battery left or your battery.

While monitoring systems are great, they do have to be calibrated to be trusted... and battery left does not properly calibrate will two or three full discharges.
 
The DROID's battery indicator has bugs in it which prevents it from properly telling you how much battery power you have available when using the extended battery.

I was under the impression that the battery left widget could work around that problem but seems to be falling short in my case.

My post was to help the developer, who reads and posts in this thread, improve his app and I'll be sending him the log file after the phone exhausts the battery and I re-charge.

So in response to your snide, "I guess everybody needs a hobby" comment, it's not a hobby we are trying to work around a bug that we can't control. Good luck with your cheap knockoff battery, I'm sure you'll get what you paid for.

Thank you!!! You're the first person to answer the question I've asked a few times as to why this program exists and why so much effort was going into it. My purpose behind the hobby crack was not to offend and I'm sorry if you took it that way (no need to get too serious about things like that). There are quite a lot of people who put a lot of time into this phone and at the moment I'm not much different. I wasn't here for the first 40 pages of postings or so and was trying to get a simple iquirey answered. I was having a hard time figuring out why this was being done.
I'd love to to have an extended battery that doesn't stick out (and I'm aware that none will beat the 2600 version). My purpose for getting the cheapo battery was to see how the program would do with something else from another source (Think about it for a moment. You never know when an answer may come from a different direction). It doesn't hurt to expand the field and try something different. I have very low expectations of the Hong Kong Battery as I've been there and done that. When Seidio comes out with a quality slim extended battery, I will be one of the first people in line. I'm just trying to do what I can to help in my own way. Peace!!!
 
OK, first step has completed. 32 hours and 52 minutes on the extended battery, (with a ROM that is not known for being battery friendly either!)

So I put the phone on the charger about 4 this morning. A few hours later I noticed the phone said the battery was charged but battery left was only showing 38xxmv. I pulled the AC plug for 1 sec and reinserted and the phone now said charging again with a battery level of only 50%

I'm beginning to thing that Motorola doesn't monitor battery voltage but instead uses timers based on the characteristics of the OEM battery. If so, what a stupid thing to do. This might also explain why that poster was not getting over 38xx on his battery charge cycle. Using trickle charge mode on an extended battery to go for 50 to 100% would take DAYS! I wonder if he ever tried a quick pull of the AC charger to reset the circuit. (Too many pages in this thread to look for the person)

Anyway, it seems that Motorola really bit the pooch on this one and learning to use mv readings is definitely the way to go as pointed out previously.
 
I forgot to add, while I'm charging, battery left is showing a "full battery left" of 32 hours and 52 minutes. So it did in fact keep track of things during the first discharge cycle. (My early attempts before finding this thread included a number of phone reboots to reset the built-in battery indicator. DON'T DO THAT!)

So far, it seems that the battery left widgets strenght is in it's ability to display the battery voltage levels. Which seems to be MUCH more accurate than whatever method is used by Motorola.

To the Battery Left author, I just sent my data which is ID 458 in hopes that it will give you help in working with the extended battery. IMO you need to do something about the misleading display text during the first discharge cycle. Until I found this forum, even after reading your website, I incorrectly assumed that when your software said accurate that it was!

Just rebooted and recharge circuit is now activated with a battery level of only 70% and after about 15 minutes is now 80% with voltage readings in the 39xx range.
 
Lets hope something down the road can fix this...although I am not that worried...I never trusted any little bar for battery life before. With the extended battery as long as you know you have more juice why worry. I would think after a few months you will know how many days you typical get out of your phone.

I keep mine plugged in most of the time anyways, or every few days plug it in to charge *shrug* To be honest I don't typically look at the phone battery icon, on any phone...I go by what I get to know of the phone...or feel if you will.

I pulled the SEIDIO battery out of the box yesterday March 14th around 3pm I think it was plugged it into the phone, and plugged the phone into the charger. I took it off the charger (USB) March 15th 9:30am...mv was showing 4212 with two different battery aps. Battery left, and Battery Life.

I was getting like 33-37 hours on the OEM battery...but I do not use my phone much. I'll edit this thread to keep it all together what I am getting for readings and what not.

March 14th - Charged new extended battery
March 15th - Removed phone from charger at 9:30am (USB) showing 4212mv
March 15th - 1:06pm just got off phone from an hour call, now down to 4025mv
March 16th - 11:08am mv at 3962
March 17th - 6:25pm mv at 3890 - A few calls, played a few games for 10-15 minutes.
March 18th - 11:16am mv at 3843 - A few more short calls and played a few games
March 19th - 8:05am mv at 3800

Yeah I know the BatteryLeft is not always accurate even though it says it is. Especially when its a new battery, and it says "accurate" immediatly. the voltage should be collect anyway.

But even disregarding the readings from various battery apps, the time the battery stays charged after a 10 hr charge period is lousy. 10 hours? my stock battery gets that!

Your battery must be bad if your getting that with an honest comparison.

I"m at 54hours now and still at 3629mv... but its dropping fast now.. it was at 3710 an hour ago.

Seems it drops faster if you get to the lower voltages with light use... if you pull hard to get there and so get there quick, the mv readings rebound a bit better.

Matt is giving battery left much attention trying to get it to jive with the Seidio batteries.

I downloaded a logger to send info to him but its limited at 64kb without being on a custom ROM.

It would be in Seidios best interest to help get this figured out by loaning an extended battery to Matt or through some other means...... it makes the battery much less glamorous when the readings are all wacked out.

Rolllingbones, you are rooted to 2.1 aren't you?
Do you also get the crazy readings on percentage where it drops to 5% and bounces up if you reboot?
 
I called them and hey are going to send me out a replacement. I'll update when I receive it. For now, its back to stock. Windstrings, It would indeed make sense for them to help at least by providing a bettery to a dev who is trying to make their app work with the seidio battery.
 
I didn't wade through all the nearly 50 pages of this forum, so forgive me if this has been addressed already.

At what voltage does the phone shut itself off at (default non rooted firmware). I figure if I know the shutoff voltage and I know the voltage at 100% (which I think varies between 4.1 and 4.3 V) that will give best remaining % (as has already been stated in this topic).

Also, is there any advantage to going to a rooted rom as far as battery life? Even with my extended I've never gotten more than 18 hours with barely any use.

My stats right now:
Remaining: "5%" (this is after the full drain and a few full recharges)
Voltage: 3715 mV
Time since unplugged: 11.5 h.
Battery use: Idle 28% (11h), Cell Standby 22% (11.5 h, 36% w/o signal), Display 18% (26m) Voice Calls 12% (4 m), Android Sys, Ringdroid, AIM, Email round out the rest.
 
yes there are still advantages.the setcpu app can underclock the phone based on battery level and give you more use. It requires root.
 
got mine yesterday, charged over night about 12 hours.


off charger 42xxma

about a hour of use later 4061ma, so its already doing much better than the stock battery. but I use my phone a lot, I've never madee it thru a full day before and that's trying by doing all the battery tricks of tuning everything off and kiling apps all the time.

so it makes it a whole day using it like a normal person, by not worring aboit saving the battery, I'll be more than happy
 
about half way thru work and voltage is still 3991ma, so that's very good.


as for battery left, I just have the voltage set to show on the big display, is there anyone to have the %amount based on voltage? that way 4200 is full, and whatever your shut down voltages as empty? say 3800ish or whatever it is

If you go back and read some of my posts, I"ve made some guestimations......

Basically, you don't have to worry about your battery dying until under 3500mv... it holds strong till about 3650mv or so, below, 3500 the drop is faster.... one to 2 hours left if your actually using it.. once it gets under 3400mv.. maybe 30 min and it dies around 3350mv.
