SUPER UPSET about this 2.2 crap

Im on the droid1 and I Just got a txt from Verizon that said.

"Free VZW Msg.Your Droid was sent the Android 2.2 software update including Adobe Flash 10.1. Click for more info: http://vzw.com/droidupdate"

I'm running kangerade (strawberry) from rom manager so I didn't get it. What build is this they are pushing now?

I pushed the leaked update back on 8-13(frg01 I think it was) then ended up rooting anyway.

Ill be honest. I was afraid to brick my phone because it IS my phone but it took like 20 minutes tops. I used the easy root app with no problems.

I had to wipe for the first one but I've tried a few roms now and haven't had to wipe even.

The Droid is just awesome.

All of you that are telling the OP to root and run a ROM or leaked 2.2 answer this question. Do EITHER of the above suggestions fix the volume issue? If not, why suggest it if the OP specifically states the volume fix is a reason he's waiting for 2.2?

As I concur with the frustration maybe people need to sit back and look at the big picture and pass some blame on Google for some of this. Who in there right mind makes 3 going on 4 MAJOR OS ( 2.0 D1 release, 2.1 early 2010, 2.2 May 2010, and now word it 3.0 will be done around Nov 2010) changes in under a year. Come on already use your head. IMO they are just to lazy to fix current source code so they just push out a new release which recks havoc on the mfgs & carriers....

You realize the android source base is constantly being updated with patches and fixes right? Where do you think those fancy build numbers come from? FRF50, FRF83, FRG01, and FRG22 are all 2.2 Froyo builds...

there is much more to it then just that idea/theroy. If it were that simple all the mfgs would be pushing out the same numbered builds which they don't. Each letter and number had a different meaning. IE the qtr, month, day things were made/built. And I'm sure there is a way to figure it out to know in specific but I don't have the inside skinny on how they do it, just know what they do and where the ycopme from

Bottom line is the release is not that much farther off. I've already seen it to bad I can't get my hands on it tho :(. Its nice having a family member who works for Moto and has buddies who work in that department.

Umm... seeing that nearly the entirety of the OP's post is 2.2, Adobe Flash and pining about the manufacturers getting their act together to get the 2.2 OTA out. I would say YES. Rooting the phone and dropping a leaked 2.2 on it would be a solution to the majority of the issues. dancedroiddancedroid

People will always have something to complain and whine about. If this phone would have came pre-loaded with 2.2, people would be complaining about the next update not getting here fast enough.

Take a chill pill and relax. After all, it's just a smartphone. Your life is not going to end if you don't have the update right away.

Does anyone know if there will be a fix for the touch problem? My phone doesn't respond to my touch over half the time. Sorry but I shouldn't have to lock and unlock my phone just to get it to respond to my touch. What is that all about?

I thought I was the only one with this problem because I got a referb

These, IMO, would be hardware issues, and updating to 2.2 won't fix it.

Are you sure about that even so I will wait till it comes out to make sure I don't wanna bug VZW to much since they updated me from a droid to a droid x

I couldn't agree more. And IMO the kicker is when folks like to pass blame on the mfg all the time. Fact is in this case and most cases of software it has nothing to do with the mfg. They make and do what is needed and then it is in the carriers (this case VZW) lap to approve.

As an example I found this old msg I had from when I was discussing the 2.1 update for the Droid with the person I know over at moto and here is his comment

"We have stuff ready quickly as you know. Its vzw that holds everyone up so tell the whining babies this." If moto is so slow then how does everyone get the loads/builds before release? That tells you vzw is the hold up as they haven't released it." Google and Moto make the sw and currently VZW has been sitting on the 2.1 update for over 3 weeks already, so even if they approve it wil still be a few weeks. Plus its still up to vzw to check it again after setting up their system to push the OTA. Fact is once we submit a build it will be a min of 4 weeks closer to 6 before it would ever even get pushed out via OTA."

I have to agree with bgilly, and lexus....the x should have had this a long time ago...now if they are holding out to do something more for the x especially then cool but state so. But now its like every one that I know that has a droid has 2.2 except the x.WTF!

I got a text msg from Verizon saying that 2.2 is now available. It said to go to "check for updates to install", but it shows 2.1 on my DX as up to date. What's up

4umz r not for teh helpz dats wut india iz 4

The DX is not the first, nor will it be the last phone to 'wait' for updates.

Verizon is notoriously slow with updates (anyone that owned a BlackBerry can confirm)

Look at D1 owners, in less than a year our device was discontinued.... lol
