SUPER UPSET about this 2.2 crap

The only thing I agree is that 2.2 is taking forever just because they want to put their blur crap in it. IMO, ditch all the custom crap and let people have vanilla froyo.

there is much more to it then just that idea/theroy. If it were that simple all the mfgs would be pushing out the same numbered builds which they don't. Each letter and number had a different meaning. IE the qtr, month, day things were made/built. And I'm sure there is a way to figure it out to know in specific but I don't have the inside skinny on how they do it, just know what they do and where the ycopme from

Bottom line is the release is not that much farther off. I've already seen it to bad I can't get my hands on it tho :(. Its nice having a family member who works for Moto and has buddies who work in that department.

Oh yes, the letters do mean various things (though, even the scheme for which they are derived changes occasionally, with the exception of the first). The point is, those builds were all revisions to the same code branch, Froyo, proving that Google does actually work on the current branch. And those build strings are just head tags, collecting a whole swath of git commits on the code base. It's constantly being updated, many, many times each day... And once it hits AOSP, it also gets community updates as well as google updates.

Anybody, including the manufacturers, can grab a head version from the main repository containing the fixes at any time. The only issue is hardware patching, and then getting it cleared with the carrier for OTA if it's a manufacturer. The carrier part takes the longest, as you know, sometimes months. So they usually only bother with major version changes.

It was late summer since the get-go. No one forced any of u to buy the DX. If u wanted 2.2 that bad, u should have gotten the droid, droid 2 or nexus one. You bought a device knowing it wouldnt have 2.2 until late summer.

I dont see how anyone has grounds to complain about this. If it isnt released by september 21st, then u can complain.

if you search "2.2 update" on google, apples link to their 4.1 update is the first non news thing to come up.

coincidence? i think not.

Their blur crap was already done. Most of that work was done with the Droid2. Besides, look at how long ago the leaked version of Froyo was released (with blur, no less), nearly 4 weeks ago. The hard work on Moto's part was already done at that time. Since then, we've been waiting on Verizon...

The Droid's vanilla builds took just as long to come out, with just as many people complaining about it. The FRG01 leak came out in mid July, and the official rollout (of that same FRG01) didn't start til mid august...

Totally agree, and this part in your comment is exactly the issue right now with 2.2 for the X. Has nothing to do wiht Blur, Moto, or Google. It is all in the lap of VZW sitting on there hands like always.

As another quick example the r2d2 version of the D2 as we've heard is suppose to release Sept 30. VZW still has not approved the software for it yet and it is only 2 wks til release. And from what I was told over the weekend they were submitting a new build to VZW as of yesterday to see if it finally gets final approval. This is the same garbage that went on with the X before release. There (VZW) main concern on Moto devices has been the D2 and only the D2 in the past few months. Why I don't understand but it is what it is I guess. Fact is like I've said a couple of ytimes it wont be long and we'll all be happy campers

The day after you get the update you will have forgotten all about the delay, cus you'll have a whole new set of problems.

Software development isn't an exact science, it's calculated compromise.

Well Said.

I have been involved in software development since the 70's and warthawg hit the nail on the head:). We would love to believe that software development is an exact science, but it comes down to requirement analysis, pseudo-code development, coding, debugging, Alpha, Beta, then final release with expected updates to fix the problems. Maybe we should focus on the quality of the release and not the speed of it.

As a side note I have been keeping up on this thread, It has been very entertaining. Bottom line Motorola, Verizon, and Google will get it out when they get it out; not one minute sooner and all the complaining on this site will not change that.:greendroid:

Enjoy improved performance with these OS enhancements. Verizon Wireless is
pleased to announce a new software update for your Droid X by Motorola. The Motorola
(Version.1.13.604.MB810.Verizon.en.US/Baseband: BP_C01.09.04P) update includes
numerous enhancements and improvements.

This is the information posted on VZW about the droid X software update. This is a 2.1 update that was already installed on newer phones. (Mine has it...I got my Aug 25th). Nothing about 2.2 posted anywhere on VZW yet.

Ps...the first day of fall is the 22nd at 11:09pm.

Everyone needs to get their facts straight! :icon_ banana:

Ok, while people need to get their facts straight, just remember software development cycles are known to be pushed off time to time. So I'll be more impressed when you decide to make this post on Sept 23rd.

If patience is a virtue, it is most assuredly one you do not possess.

Oops, almost left this out :icon_ banana:

Please keep this on track and let cooler heads prevail and don't post anything if it's not going to keep the harmony.
