[ROM] The CM7 Gingerbread ROM (CM4D2-GB) is now ready for prime time!

If I make a nandroid backup of my current CM7GB setup and sbf back to Froyo and get the OTA gingerbread update, will I be able to restore my backup on top of it (after I root the OTA, of course)?

No, that's not a good idea because it is a different kernel. Some other people ended up bootlooping when they tried.

Yeah. What tattedupboy said. I thought my last backup was of the OTA GB......Sadly it wasn't.....Starting from scratch :frown:.

Am I the only one having problems with the camera in the 8/30 build? It freezes whenever I try to zoom.

I had the same problem, hit menu and go to camera settings and change it so that volume keys change zoom. but now the problem is, if the screen times out, it ends up freezing the phone, have to do a battery pull to turn it back on. it takes pictures fine long as i don't let the phone time out and exit the camera app before the screen times out.

Finally got to a pc and got the ota. Just rooted and about to get on cm7 again. Love it!

Edit: annnnnnd..... done!

Welcome to the revolution!

Posted from my D2 with CM7GB

You mean evolution :) and yes this past day was killing me not being on the ota. I was having to settle for cm7 based off the leak! As if...! haha.

A lot of new stuff this week:
OTA GB
New Market update
New 5.0.1 clockwork recovery
New v4 of jakesmod
I installed the new 3.0 beta3 superuser apk.
Flashed the bionic boot animation

It feels like a new phone!

ok so i am looking to jump from Apex to CM7. originally apex was kicking ass in the battery department. how is this latest CM7 release in the battery department? i see a lot of names dropped for battery management and memory management. what are people using to improve battery and phone performance even further?

I did just that with no problems. Just to be clear, make nandroid backup of current CM7GB, SBF back to Froyo, boot phone (skipped logging in), flash official Moto GB update (I did it via an update.zip file in stock Android recovery rather than OTA, b/c of d/l speed difference), boot phone, root phone, install bootstrap and ROM manager (not sure you need both), boot to CWR (here I made a nandroid makeup at this point of a clean stock but rooted phone), and finally flash original nandroid backup of CM7GB.

End result CM7GB on new, official GB kernel. My experience with CWR is that you should wipe everything always (cache, dalvik cache and data before flash and after flash; I'm also paranoid about making sure that system and data are "mounted" (i.e. shows up as "unmount" but I don't know if that really makes a diff. in avoiding bootloops)). If you do bootloop, in my experience wiping cache and data will solve the problem (assuming you can get back into CWR). Here it doesn't cost you anything because at the end of the day you are going to restore your nandroid of all your settings so wiping them in between doesn't slow you down. Just remember not to log in google and have the account trying to sync. Waste of time and bandwidth.
