The "Got my D3"/ first impressions thread

Im kinda upset that I just got my d2g a month ago, and I had no knowing or warning that the d3 would come out now. I really want it! It is like the smartphone of all smartphones. But without 4g, but there is hardly any 4g anywhere right now so im indifferent about that.

Its because I didn't even fuse this forum before I got my d2g.

The only issue is the bezel seems big... Perhaps room for a 4.3" display instead of the larger bezel? Then again, battery life would take a little hit.

I always thought the same thing..big bezel..bulkier/more weight?

I have a feeling the space is used for antenna arrays and other circuit innards. These devices tend to not have much free space ;)

I do believe the antenna is somewhat the same setup as the iPhone just without the easily dropped calls...meaning at least part of the antenna is basically the part that surrounds the screen...I could be wrong though lol

I am thinking of coming back to the droid scene with the D3. I am selling my iPhone 4 32 GB to get the D3 and i hope im not making a mistake like i did with the DX lol (horrible phone).

The droid x is not horrible! Why do you think it is? My only issue with it is the size. Too big. Haha. I think any android powered phone is better than an iphone or any apple product any day. Android is the first operating system that I actually don't complain about. I like it better than anything by Microsoft or apple or linux. It satisfies me.

Same here when I got my D2 in February. Luckily somehow my parents got verizon to put us on a one year contract :)

Sent from my Droid Bionic!

How did they get the one year contract? Please tell me- im desperate!

I think just talking to Verizon you can get a 1 year plan...only thing is you don't get the full discount on the phone

I'm not an apple or android fanboy. I think both have their strengths, though.

Apple... works. All the time.

Android. You can do all the cool things you've ever wanted to do, but it's buggy as hell. I was so ready to go Apple before I finally decided to take the plunge and root my D2G. With Hexen ROM, I'm finally happy with my phone (except not being able to get 2.3 yet)...

But with the stock ROM, I was soooo angry that I had spent $200 on yet another Android device that had more bugs than it had buttons. I imagine I'll be somewhat discontent with the D3 until it's rooted as well.

Personally, I think Apple is better for those that want to grab a phone and just use it how it is. Android is definitely the choice for those that want to toy with everything.

All that said, I do have stock in Apple... lol... but I use an Android phone, Windows PC, and and Ipad 2 (soon).

That's just my $0.02.

DX would have been terrific without MOTOblur. The same can be said of the Droid Pro, D2, D2G, and DX2... lol. Motorola, what are you thinking?!?!?!?!

I just don't like apple as a company...especially lately since I learned they actually make more revenue off of silly royalties forced upon many Android phones and are currently trying to force poor Samsung to pay apple $15 per EACH phone sold over silly little copyright things...not saying suing over copyrights is bad, but from what I understand apple forced copyright on tons of features basically ANY decent smartphone uses (like they have a copyright on the main type of smartphone touchscreen I think)
Other than that I agree iPhones are good to start off but Android is better with a few modifications

MotoBlur ruined it for me but im hoping MotoBlur isnt as in your face on the D3 as it was on the DX! And i do agree i think the 4 inch screen is the sweet spot, 4.3 inch can be kinda big to alot of users.

In my honest opinion, if you wanted an android that worked out of the box, the D1 or any Nexus would probably be the way to go...
I mean, I've never had a problem on my D1, like random reboots or freezing. Ever, before and after rooting/roms. It's probably just a result of the skins and ui's that we see so many problems. If the D3 had aosp 2.3.4, it probably wouldn't have any problems like reboots and such...

I agree with you for the most part there.

But isn't it Microsoft that's making all the money off of Android? I think they are the ones (as well as Oracle) that are pursuing royalties off of manufacturers that are using Android OS.

Apple, on the other hand, is battling it out with Samsung over Samsung trying to make their products look like Apple's. Undoubtedly, that is the effect that Samsung is trying to achieve.

Really, all these tech companies are all suing each other. It must be insanely frustrating to be a part of any of that mess, but I guess it's inevitable with current laws.
