FYI, I saw a random, no-source-or-link-provided tweet from droid-life today suggesting that the droid 4 release might be Feb 8 or 9.

If it's out and your ready for a new phone and want one with a keyboard, this is the one to get.

But if you can wait, you might find a physical keyboard phone out later this year. I really doubt they'll release a D5 as soon as they will the D4 after the D3. Simply because the D4 is basically what the D3 should have been ...
I was upgraded six months early. They gave me 149.00 off contract price. So I couldn't refuse the Razr. Not for 149. When they were 300...that's what made my mind. It was an unheard of 4g upgrade special that eventually caused a storm at Verizon.

I already have waited "forever" -- since my release day og "V" died. The D3 was exactly right for me -- perfect -- except: no LTE. The D4, as you say, fixes that but also has a downgraded, poorly thought out, KB and vzw got stupid with the battery.
Supposing I opt to get it anyway, which D4 do I pick, the underpowered first version without ICS or global? Do I wait for the D4 MAXX? Or the D4G MAXX? Do I hold off until after the ICS update to avoid the anxiety of Bionic owners now wondering if it will happen at all for them?
Then there's pricing... It's already dropped even before it's dropped! Should I wait for a bogo like the D3? Or a freebie? Reasonable to expect.
A D5 may not come quickly, true. Although, if Moto's gonna expose it's belly like that, something less vulnerable than the D4 would've been smarter. But if a D5 is not 'coming soon', HTC or LG -- some maker -- will want to exploit that gap -- with newer tech. Any HTC offering could have the bootloader unlocked.
So, it's really not as simple as, "...this is the one to get." You might be right, but there are still lots of questions.

Your situation isn't that bad...Having a choice is good but I can understand which one? Lol If you like the D3 I would stick it out until after summer when the probability of 4 core is out and Full HD..No matter what you get, test it 13 days and return until your comfy! Peace!

You might as well wait and see IF a D4 maxx, etc, come out.
Although since Moto said they were going to slow down production I wouldn't be surprized if they drop those all together.

yeah i saw kellex posted that.... most his information on release dates is pretty off... besides that site is all gnex... if this phone was the gnex he would have 5 articles a day on it... there are like 9 total articles.... there would be secret information on the release date and everything.

That doesn't mean its NOT being released. Verizon keeps a tight lip on things.
The "rumors" were for a Feb 2 release date, so it is possible.
With every blog, forum, etc., focused on the Nexus, there isn't much else about other phones.

A lot of blogs, forums, etc., are like that now. I tried googling for the Droid 4 but its all nexus. Or repeated info.
Now I'm wondering which Thursday it will be. Getting close.

Yea...I used to be pumped about the D4 as my upgrade, but after all this waiting and all the rumors and the worry of it being replaced in a month...I believe I'll hold off for awhile now

Also...what 'news' should Droid Life be reporting on about the D4? All the specs have been confirmed, as well as the recent price. There's nothing left to report on...just twiddle your thumbs and wait on an announcement for a release date, or for it to hit Verizon's website
