The Official DF Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release Thread

ROFL my credit card is never going into any workaround. If they want me to use its its going to be officially done, officially supported, and they be need to be officially reliable. One thing i dont toy with is my CC. Thats my $0.02.

I didn't say I was going to use it. Just that there was a workaround.

On the other hand, it looks like the workaround is only on the install. I really haven't looked into the security of google wallet, but I find it hard to believe that Google would release it to the Nexus S unless it was secure, so I believe them over Verizon's claim that it is not secure.

So the big question is, is it supported on the GN already, just removed due to VZ, and doing this workaround just putting it back to where Google intended? or is this a workaround that opens up security concerns......I don't know.

It really is kind of moot anyway, since I don't have a chase CC (the only one that works on wallet) and I don't live in SF, the only place whre it is working (might be one or two others, but still no where near me).

So on the topic of being pissed off at Verizon and this utter mess of a release of our much to be desired Galaxy Nexus

Does anyone know how ICS will work with the RAZR or Rezound (or any other Android device for that matter) (since they have hardware buttons)? Will ICS create software buttons, thereby making the screen smaller on those devices or will it still allow the phone to use the hardware buttons?

Thanks
Your hard buttons with function normally.

Off topic in regards to the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, but did I see somewhere that a version of the Nexus went through the FCC for AT&T? Just curious if that version had a LTE radio in it or not.

Well that settles it. i wouldnt go near San Francisco and i don't have chase either. moot point indeed.

I have a hard enough time using my phone to buy things with my credit cards and for looking at bank account info because its rooted let alone do a hack to enable an officially supported version of a virtual credit card. I'm probably more paranoid than I need to be but still.

It sucks waiting, but I would be OK with the 15th. I would be OK with this Sunday.

I am honestly just hoping it does NOT come out on Monday. Not that I don't want it to come out sooner than later. But, there is no way I would be able to make it to a Verizon store until after 2pm at the earliest that day. I may just have a conniption if I were to arrive at a Verizon at 3pm to find they were sold out and not be able to find this phone anywhere in the area. I seriously might flip out, start breaking stuff, maybe "fus roh dah" some people on the way out. Wouldn't be pretty....

Not sure what's been more of a disaster of a release, the GNEX or the 1st Asus Transformer. The terrible release and limited quantity of the transformer actually caused me not to purchase it. When its all said and done, on pretty certain I will purchase the GNex regardless.

So just called one of the local VZW store for funzies and got the same response as everyone else (similar enough that I'm pretty sure they have actually been instructed on exactly what to say). He did, however, offer to take my name and number and text/call me when they got the e-mail with a concrete date on it... which got me wondering: I'm sure they are only doing this to try and guarantee the commission when the phone finally does come out, but I don't think they would be offering to do this if they were getting more than 5 or 6 calls per day about the phone because it would seem like quite the task to have to contact 30-40 people when the phone finally does release.... unless when they are just entering my info to an automated system that will contact everyone at the same time when they tell it too with a recorded message.

The thunderbolt had to be the worst release yet, best buy took paid pre orders without a firm release date and it went another month before it was released

Thats true. but iot seems everyone who i talk to that cares about cell phones knows about the nexus. ive got several people in my class that seemed agrivated with me when i started talking about it with the dude next to me.

Well if you have a drive on the 20th, you should just get a rezound or razr from verizon to hold you over. If it comes out the 31st you're still in the return window. If you go with craigs list, the money spent will be gone. If you're going to spend more than the $35 restocking fee on the craigslist phone, it doesn't make sense to do it.

Edit: guess I forgot to refresh the page haha

I have a feeling that when the GN is released we won't have many problems getting them.

In my area there is a strip mall with at least 4 places that sell verizon phones. I went into a store the day of the RAZR release not knowing that it was the release day, the sales people were hyping it up saying that they had already sold 4, I was in there pretty late in the day.

In this economy I can imagine there are too many people besides us that are eager to shell out $300 for a new phone, unless it has a picture of half eaten fruit on it.
