Talk about being the last guy in line.. Good grief.

Don’t look now, Verizon customers, but Telstra is set to offer their Australian consumers the Galaxy Nexus starting tomorrow. It will be in two of their flagship Melbourne stores as well as available online. Plans will start at $70 with three more options through $130. Be up bright and early to order online or to get to the locations listed at the source link. [Telstra, thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Telstra Getting the Galaxy Nexus Tomorrow

So the talk of star wars earlier got me thinking... who is your most hated movie character of all time? Obviously the character that started this thought process was Jar Jar Binx, but that is based on pure annoyance with the character. If it was based on evilness, I'm not sure where I would go... I read a few people that said it was Percy from Green Mile... I could definitely see that. So what about everyone else, mosted hated character based on annoyance and based on evilness.

If you can't get your ICS from Verizon on Thursday, as a consolation you can head over to your neighborhood convenience store and get one there. Hey it's better than nothing. Enjoy that instead of fuming about the phone.

Google wallet not secure?

The recent rumors about the Galaxy Nexus and why it has been delayed because of Google Wallet discussions may not be that far off the mark. Today, we saw an article about some research done on Google Wallet and found that Verizon may have some valid grounds for not wanting to have Google Wallet on the Galaxy Nexus. It seems that ViaFornesics has researched Google Wallet and the information that they came up with shows that some areas are not secure enough to satisfy most people. ViaForensics provides tools for the iPhone and Android phones. They have performed a forensic security analysis of Google Wallet and the results are not exactly what I would have expected to see. You can read their review for yourself and it covers a number of areas including setup and an overview of NFC. But the real issue here is what they found in the course of their investigation of Google Wallet.
Google Wallet stores a graphic of your card and it was found that it contained a key item that it should not have, namely the expiration date of your card which was stored in the cache directory. A key piece of information that some people collect in gathering your credit card information. In the SQLite database, there are a number of databases and tables contained in each. As noted by ViaForensics, there is information that can be gathered from some of these that probably should not be visible to anyone who can get access to the SQLite data. Some items of note that can be gleaned from the data is your credit card number, your credit card balance, last 4 digits of your SSN, expiration date and GMail account. All of this information was in clear text and not encrypted at all. The credit card limit is one that I would not want someone to have access to.
Another item that will raise concerns for those who are afraid of location based tracking this year is that you are being tracked by Google Analytics and that is probably not something that you might want to see. All of this is showing that there are some areas where Google needs to do a better job of protecting our information with Google Wallet. Here is a summary from the ViaForensics review:
While Google Wallet does a decent job securing your full credit cards numbers (it is not insecurely stored and a PIN is needed to access the cards to authorize payments), the amount of data that Google Wallet stores unencrypted on the device is significant (pretty much everything except the first 12 digits of your credit card). Many consumers would not find it acceptable if people knew their credit card balance or limits. Further, the ability to use this data in a social engineering attack against the consumer directly or a provider is pretty high. For example, if I know your name, when you’ve used your card recently, last 4 digits and expiration date, I’m pretty confident I could use the information to my advantage. When you add data that is generally available online (such as someone’s address), an attacker is well armed for a successful social engineer attack.
This group turned over their findings to Google on November 30th and it looks like Google has listened to what they have reported and are working to correct problems. How much can be fixed based on this report and in what time frame is unknown. All of this should raise some major concerns with everyone.

Hate to break it to you call, but it doesn't look to me like the 15th is going to be the day (I'm praying I'm wrong), but I would think we would have seen some kind of advertisement by now, granted, this thing could drop quietly, but at the same time, I don't think Samsung or Google would allow that to happen, they've got a lot riding on this phone.

It was going to drop the 9th. Your point makes no sense.

So the 15th could still be the world wide launch party? You guys certainly deserve one. And if it comes to pass I will be among the first to congratulate you. But it's still not listed anywhere on Verizon's web site.

So are we now trying to beat the Incredible pre-release thread in this thread? Or the on-topic thread? Or both?

Being a goal-oriented type person, you've totally thrown me off-kilter.

Think I'll put on Netflix and have a Killian's...... wait, I'm at work. So I'll just put on Netflix. ;)
