★★★ The "Official" I got my DROID BIONIC Thread ★★★

Got mine yesterday as well around 9:30am.....then went back and upgraded my son's OGD to the Bionic for his birthday gift.

There are many things to love about this phone and they have been said already but I want to hit on a couple of things that really bothered me

1) BLAND BLAND BLAND........I am coming from a Charge and that phone had eye catching wow factor......this phones is very antiseptic with the interactive apps. The Contact page....the Text Messaging program couldnt be more simplistic and dull.....just seems like an actual robot designed these layouts. Anyone that used the Charge knows what I am saying

2) the Separation of Email accounts.......Moto REALLY screwed the pooch on this one. I see some kind of fix in the works on this mistake. We have all owned Droids before and I am sure many of us have more than one email account (Business/Personal/whatever)......and when you used to click on you email icon you would go to the screen where you could choose which account you wanted to check on (remember the whole Name this Account thing). Well not anymore....the email icon goes only to your selected default mail account....you have to use a new icon named Messaging to access multiple accounts and I don't know about you but I used separate notification tones for the different account (this way I knew what email I just got).....now you can only use the one tone for all of your emails. This one I find EXTREMELY annoying and short sighted. Moto changed the email thing that was stock Android (I am assuming because my SAMSUNG Droid was exactly the same) into something stupid and not user friendly

overall the phone is fantastic and I can see myself keeping it till next year and will upgrade to the then latest and greatest.....but I do really hate the email issue.

I got mine!!! Gave up my original Motorol DROID, and so far....love, love, love!! I was hoping for the Galaxy SII, but since Verizon isn't getting it, I've decided not to wait anymore. So far I love the phone. Three issues came up so far. 1. My contacts had some duplications. 2. I lost one of my EXPENSIVE apps (not motorola's fault) and 3. Can't leave the case on when using the dock. By far, the last one annoys me the most!! Why can't they figure this out?????

What app did you lose and where did you get it from? You didn't do any backup of apps first?

Missing App

It was called Nursing Central, put out by Unbound Medicine. I paid $160.00 for the app. That included one year of updates, which I let run out knowing that I would keep the original apps. It includes reference books that don't really need to be updated very often. I had the app even after the subscription ran out on my other phone - obviously just didn't get updates, but when I changed phones, and tried to open it, it acted as if I was a new subscriber. I called the company...they don't care and won't do anything about it. It's like buying books, and then having the company take them away if you move....terrible. I can buy apps for $1 that are programmed better than that!!

Oh, I also lost my password keeper...but I haven't followed up with them yet....

I didn't do any backup of apps because the salesman at VZW told me I can access all of my apps on my computer through the market, which worked fine for all but the two I mentioned.

I just ordered the Bionic today & it should be here by Tuesday. I'm coming from an OG droid so my expectations are HIGH! Why? Because let's face it...to date the OG Droid has to be the best (when looking at everything from battery, durability, usability, etc)...I have read that the Bionic is a bit lighter than the tank OG...that will take some getting used to!

Some of the reviews in this thread have been a bit vague though...could someone make a list of all the pros & cons of the Bionic? I've only read a few cons (multiple email problem, power button on left, "dullness" of the Bionic compared to say the Charge...)...but how about making a complete list?

Thanks guys!

After having a Charge for the last 3 months, the BIonic is a breath of fresh air. I've got everything reinstalled on the Bionic, and no problems what-so-ever. Love Love LOVE it!

Just got my Bionic yesterday and sorry to say, I liked my charge better. I'll run this for a couple more days and see if the issues sort of resolve themselves or I get used to them. My first issue is some of the preloaded app's or apps I download will just freeze. I have to power off and on to get them to work again. Second, is the battery life is way worse than what I was getting from my charge. During a normal day of usage I would get home after 12 hours of usage and still have 40% battery life left. If I was watching a netflix movie I would get roughly 30 minutes of viewing for 10% of battery usage. With the bionic for the same 30 minutes of viewing it's consuming 20% and the screen gets hot. I mean really hot in comparison to the charges. I think some of the UI particularly in the settings menu is less appealing. As far as speed....I do think the bionic may be a little quicker but not so much that it plays that much of a factor for me. The screen, when watching video, is a little more realistic than compared to the charge. The charge tends to makes the colors look darker or richer than they actually are, kind of like a plasma or LCD TV would but you really don't notice unless your comparing side by side with another phone. All in all, I have another 14 days to play around with it and see what others are seeing as well.

I upgraded from a DROID 3. I really wanted 4G and I'll just give my DROID 3 to my sister. But quick mentions:

1. This thing is way faster and smoother than my DROID 3. I don't know how they did it. It has the same processor and resolution. But the Bionic is much snappier. No lag whatsoever unlike my DROID 3.

2. It's light, feels good. This is a really good phone.

Will keep updated.

Are you kidding me? What is it about the Charge screen that everyone loves. I did not like it. It wasn't crisp and clean like the Bionics. And freezing? OMG. All apps froze my Charge if they ran long enough. I have yet to have any freeze or even a little hesitation with the Bionic. Maybe you got a bad one? I don't know. I know this phone is a HUGE upgrade over the POS Charge.

. Go to market.android.com - look at the MY ACCOUNT tab and see if it's still listed there
3. They cannot anticipate the size of every case available :(

1. Most people prefer a close to ASOP experience over the samsung TouchWiz. This latest version of "motoblur" does a better job of staying true to the stock android experience. You do have options (different apps/loaders) which will give the phone that samsung feel again.

2. The stock "messaging" app allows you to select any of your email accounts individually, or click universal inbox and see them all. You can still assign different notifications per email, it just requires an application like K9 instead of using the stock messaging app.

I have a question regarding wifi/4g

When i'm connected to wifi should the 4g notification turn white (i'm assuming it does this because the 4g data connection is turned off to conserve power)?

Also, does anyone know if the traffic widget is exclusive to this version of motoblur or is it a google maps widget. Thats extremely handy to me living in metro DC.

I can only say that the 14 days that I ran the charge I didn't have any issues with freezing apps. I am not sure why other like the screen so much but for me it was just the how they enhanced the colors that really stood out. Now saying that, I don't have any real qualms with the bionic screen resolution. It still looks go and is pretty smooth when playing video, but so was the charges with just deeper color contrast. I will call VZ tech support to see if they can shed any light on why the apps are freezing... and when I say freezing I mean stop working all together. I reset the phone last night before I went to bed and we'll see how it does today. I will say it seems like I get better download speeds. The quickest download that speedtest reported was 48 MB and with the Bionic I get over 50MB almost every time. I hear that the battery live will improve over the next few days, so I will report back on that. I did read somewhere that the charge's screen takes less power for some reason which may play a factor into quick battery life usage. Ohhh, and maybe I am reading this wrong but I thought that the bionic was suppose to have 16GB of internal memory and 16 SD card? When I check mine it has the 16 for the SD card but the phone OS only reports 8 GB for internal?
