This thread is about motorcycles!

ROFL...yeah, I have to clean out my carbs before spring :( And you're right about twins...the 'Hawk is the most fun steetbike I've had since my Norton, way back when ;)

I also have an F3 racebike here...if I can ever afford to go back to the track. I took the 'Hawk to Barber a few years ago, and kept riding it like a 4cyl...no point in revving the nads off a twin, is there?:laugh:

CR is selling insurance now, btw.

Yeah, you definitely have to ride them differently. I like the Streetfighter, because it has torque everywhere, but it has a very strong top end hit that pulls like a scalded ape right into the rev limiter which I have set to 11,000rpm.

Yeah, I heard that CR went to State Farm. I need to shoot him a text and see how he is doing.

You need to take my Speed Triple for a lap. It really does split the difference between gobs of torque and enough revs to pull to the top. Wheelies pretty much on demand:)

Yeah, that is the bike that kinda started it all. The first modern hooligan bike. I have yet to ride one, but everyone I have ever talked to that has, said that they are a blast.

The street fighter type of bike does have one negative though. Lack of wind protection. On something like the Hypermotard, you are not going fast enough to have it be a problem. But on something like the Speed Triple, the Ducati Streetfighter or something like an Aprilia Tuono, you have bikes capable of 150+mph, which is not fun with no wind protection.

That is my one concern of taking the Duc to the track this year. The 150hp and 365lbs dry weight sounds great on paper, and it is, but it can generate some serious speed, and on a long track like Road Atlanta, I don't know how much fun it is going to be on the back straight. On the CBR1000rr I was pushing 170mph, but I won't get anywhere near that on this thing without it peeling me off the back. LOL

One day I will ride a Speed Triple. I haven't owned a Triumph yet... I think it is time.

Back in '07 i took Speedy to Road A with a set of clipons mounted and did an honest, corrected 165 down the back. It wasn't bad, as long as I stayed tucked in!

I took a Monster 1100 bar, chopped it down and flipped it, and it has my bars as close to where a clipon would be without actually having them. The shape of my tank won't let me mount actual clipons.

How did you correct your speedo on the Triumph? My ECU allows me to throw the bike on the dyno, see how much it is off and then put the percentage in and it corrects it.

I only ask because that bike is limited to about 153mph by gearing, and that doesn't take into account wind resistance. My bike is geared to 168mph, but I doubt I could hit that with wind resistance, even with 150hp at the wheel. And if I did, it would be no picnic! LOL

I ask because speedo's are usually off about 5% or so, and so if you were going 150mph actual, it would read in the low to mid 160's, which would be right on the money with what your speedo said.

Either way, that is hella fast for a naked bike. You may be a braver man than I, we shall see! haha

Oh, and since this is a bike-geek thread, I wanted to share this. You may have seen it before, but if not, it can be a really useful tool when deciding how to gear your bike for the street, a certain track or even your personal riding preference.

Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Speed, RPM, Chain & Sprockets Calculator

It has all the data, including internal gear ratios for all the bikes. I went down -1 on the front sprocket, so I raised my rev limiter to compensate so as to not lose any top speed. This helped me calculate how much I needed to raise it, and what kind of effect it would have on top speed in each gear after the sprocket change.

Very cool little tool.

Speedo is corrected through Tuneboy by 106%, and the rev limit raised to 9800, which eliminated the high speed limit. Bike is uncorked a good bit from stock, so I'm pretty confident that was an accurate top speed. Granted, it was on the downhill after T9... there was no more to be had!
And be careful not to confuse bravery with wanton disregard for my own well- being! But yeah, I really dig going fast. Got through T9 on the 750 without lifting the last time I was there, WFO :D

Ha...that's why I love the "old" T12! And why I miss "Gravity Cavity"! Nice to see that the vids posted earlier skipped the stupid chicane at T3 and used the 'proper' T12!

Ah, ok, that makes more sense. I didn't want to question you, I am just an uber-nerd when it comes to bikes so I was trying to figure it out.

As much as I love the Streetfighter, I want something like a ZX10r for the track. So I think that maybe this summer I am going to look for a late model used literbike, and either keep the Streetfighter, or trade it on on the new Ducati Diavel. That thing looks like it will be a really cool bike.

For the AMA and WERA races they use the new T12, but for most of the track days they let us use the old T12, which I like much better. I never saw the problem with it. It's a nice sweeper that you can haul ass in... but I am not running an AMA pace, so my perception of it may be skewed. LOL

I don't run that pace either, but honestly, I've never even noticed the wall there. I do remember Bostrom's crash there though...he was damn lucky not to hit it. But, like you said, I'm no Bostrom. ;)

Was it Bostrom, or Duhamel?

My Ducati 999s Parts Unlimited bike, was hand-signed by Bostrom and Hodges. I later met him and chatted with him at an AMA race down on the starting grid before the race.

I miss that bike. Wasn't the fastest bike I have owned, but there was just something really cool about it. I love the 848/1198 style, but from a distance they look like a Japanese bikes. The 749/999 was not liked by a lot of Ducati fans, but I felt that they looked unlike anything else on the road, and were distinctly Ducati.

Plus, I just really liked the paint scheme:
