Thunderbolt General Discussion - This is Not A Release Date Discussion

I keep hoping like the i*hone they offer two models. One with the 32 gb card for $249 and one without for $199. That would be sweet especially since a lot of us already have a 16gb card from a previous phone.

that would be pretty nice, i'm sure it would sell a bunch more too if they had something like that, not to mention you can find sd cards pretty cheap nowadays

...I'm waiting for is what the 4g data plan will cost for the Thunderbolt. If it's close to the existing plan, it wins big time because AT&T's 4GB plan is $45 / line....

Is that for unlimited?

At ~5:20 in this video the guy says that it needs a sim card to make 4g, he also says that you will have to sign up for 4g coverage when picking up the phone. I live in the woods of CT, great 3g but I dont think 4g is in the plans yet.
Has any one heard of HAVING to get 4g when getting the phone?

No, nobody knows yet.

I will put money on it now that you will only have the 32gb card option.

did anyone ever "leak" the exact reason for the delay of the phone...or is it still assumptions of battery and whatnot

edit: also just reading the post above reminded me does anyone know the class of sd that will ship with the phone?

edit2:also just remembered i went to bestbuy today to get a tv and went to play with the tbolt and the demo was gone wtf

This has not been confirmed at all, but I believe that you will HAVE to have a 4g plan when you get the phone, kind of like how you HAVE to get a 3g plan when you get a 3g phone. But that might not be a problem. I personally think and hope they won't raise the price of 4g. Here's why:

-4g isn't avalible everywhere yet. To be specific, its currently only avalible in about a dozen major cities (Check map on Verizon.) They wouldnt dare charge 45 bucks for something that only 15% of America has access to.
-4g is cheaper to provide. I have heard from many sources that this is correct, and I'm pretty sure Verizon also said that.
-4g is new. I have a feeling that if they do raise the price, they would do it later on when more people have 4g devices and when more devices are avalible.

Someone should use the new Smartbench 2011 with dual core support to get the best determination of that.

FYI - anyone can view results of every test runs recorded by Smartbench 2011. Just install it, and run it on your phone. Once completed, you can view all test results which are stored on the server. There are literally tens of thousands of scores kept on the server, including those for Atrix and Optimus 2X, even Motorola Xoom tablet!

You should see how well these Tegra 2 devices execute Smartbench 2011's productivity tests. :)

To which I would respond (if I were Verizon) that there are plenty of great 3g phones already available including the Droid X and Incredible. I honestly think they view this as a 4g phone and that if you don't need/cant' get 4g, you should buy a different phone. Just playing Devil's Advocate here -- but that's what I "think" the response will be to that objection.

I can also tell you that they have invested significantly more money in developing the infrastructure to support LTE than the other carriers. Particularly the investment they made with the US government to utilize the radio bands that were previously reserved for analog Television. So even if that's true that operational costs are less, that doesn't offset the infrastructure investment that they need to reclaim in order to be profitable.

I wish I could agree with you, but I still think that the 'top tier' 4g plan is going to be priced similar to that $45 plan from AT&T. There is no better time to announce a price increase than with the launch of a new service when it won't be viewed as a price increase but as simply a more expensive option.

It's pretty clear to me that AT&T and VZW mirror each other pretty closely on the pricing plans. The lone exception is the data plan -- where Verizon has had the edge -- but I really think the comment from the CFO that "existing smartphone users are willing to pay between $30-$50" is very telling.

Just my $0.02 and I hope I'm proven wrong.

VZW website

I am not seeing anything new on Verizon's site. What are they indicating now? While I signed up for info long ago, I neither expect Verizon to update me or send it at a reasonable time frame. In fact most of the "updates" I have ever signed up for on Verizon have never worked.

Hmm, I'm not seeing it now, either. It was a full page dedicated to the TB, saying, "Coming Soon". So not really any new info, but nice to see, just the same... Along with it featured on the back of the new BB flyer, and nothing indicating it's not available already. I'm still 8 days away from upgrade, anyway...

Verizon Wireless

I hope it isn't $299 if so I probably wont buy I would go for $250 though.. I want this phone because of the FCC and OS. However I'm scared of the camera being a downgrade from my fascinate, this is by far best camera/video IV seen on a phone and I use it a lot.

Also not sure about the battery life on TB.. my fascinate is terrible and after all over read people say HTC is even worse for battery life.. instead of buying on release day like I planned looks like ill be waiting on reviews from everyone the first week its out and making a decision then.

Sent from my SCH-I500 using DroidForums App

It is gonna be $299 according to their ad. @all the ppl that keep saying the main attraction of this phone is the 4G....uhhhh wrong! I want it becuz it's unlocked.
