[Updated] Verizon Plans To Eliminate 'Grandfathered' 3G Unlimited Data Plans

Seriously I don't see how someone uses 100gb on mobile.unless they are tethering to a pc and torrenting or something similar. Kinda VZWs fault for allowing tethering at all tbh, but if Verizon is smart, they won't let the 5% ruin it for the rest. Fortunately for now their 4g seems to have a lot of room for growth before just a few % can bring it down.

hehehehehe.. You do realize that Verizon said top 5% are about 2GB? this is their reasoning that $30 will get you 2GB? Source: (Top 5% of Verizon's unlimited data users over 3G now subject to Network Optimization).

- It is also said that if you are in 3G Mode in Congested area... you will get throttled no matter what. They based it on top 5% for users that connected to the tower. If you are on 3GB/4GB, and others are still 1GB, you are automatically throttled down even though you're within their min-max 3G speed.

- 4G in my home is about 3MB believe it or not. Verizon also said that there are no problem with 4G, and they are the owner of the towers.

- Explosion of data are happening to 4G as they are fast and enable you to watch things smoothly and fast. On the other hand, Verizon 3G is not going to get you anywhere much as with my own experience, it stuttered for high bandwith media. More of an annoyance rather than a convenient. Different story if you own Iphone as this phone will hog loads of data with 3G as apple based their model on profit and capitlism (Itunes, etc...)

- Every Carriers are different in why they decide to end unlimited data.... but what i understand is that HSPA+ which is like our Verizon 3G are way faster.
-
- If you think their reason are reasonable? I laugh hard friend cuz I wish they are reasonable human being. They are not! If you think F.ShamWoW is bad... you can't wait to read what AT&T CEO said in an interview about Unlimited data. Source (AT&T Chief Regrets Offering Unlimited Data for iPhone - NYTimes.com) "
My only regret was how we introduced pricing in the beginning, because how did we introduce pricing? Thirty dollars and you get all you can eat,”

You can do whatever you want to do as we all signed written contract with Verizon, and they got high power lawyers, so don't worry and why fighting for such a silly thing? What you can do is just trying to show where you get legit information, and let that person decide what to do with it.

Should we move this thread to Craig's list rant and raves

Almost ashamed to be watching this thread

My RAZR just became rusted, won't shave lint off of butter.

They said we cannot be forced to give up our unlimited data as long as we buy our next phones at full retail

I believe that after your 2 year contract is up they can change you to any plan they want. Once the contract is up any agreements they made expire and there is nothing we can do about it.

If it is the case that we can keep unlimited data as long as we don't get a new phone at a subsidized price, I will be buying slightly older phones from eBay or Craigslist. I'd be willing to bet however that used phone prices will skyrocket.

At my heaviest usage, pandora streaming, netflix during my lunch break I still barley broke 5 gigs in a month.

How some people burn thru 10+ gigs a month is beyond me.

If you do not renew by purchasing a phone through VZ after any 2 year agreement when that 2 years is up they can change the terms at any point because you are not under contract with them. Just like you can walk away with no contract cancellation fee. This is why they only have two year contracts. It gives VZ an out just like you. Bottom line is you only signed a two year contract...buying other phones only keeps you out of contract.

You guys should get a job at Verizon.or Apple.they love close-minded people. You talk about how much you love the freedom of Android yet you get mad when people use a lot of data.there's only a small amount of us grandfathered into unlimited so we could use as much as we want and not cause a strain on 4g. I can't believe I guys are throwing a hissy fit about people using lots of data. I use less than 5 gigs sooooo every one should have to! I'll use an extra 50 gigs this month just 4I.bet it Ur not even grandfathered in. u prolly HAVE to use less than 5 gigs

Get a grip, I have unlimited also and upgrade 3 lines every time I can if there's a new phone I like and the others get passed down or sold. I'm upset but not enough to taking stabs at people

This is why we can't have nice things....

I'm locking this thread down until I can discuss with the mod team what course we want to take.

As this is a pretty important/prominent topic and it seems to be attracting a lot of discussion - we have decided to reopen this thread and let it continue... BUT please remember to keep the discussion about the topic at hand and not about each other and to respect one another as you discuss!

Let's start off right then...
To anyone saying that the way around this is by just getting a full price phone off contract when your current unlimited contract expires- if you are off contract then Verizon can really do whatever they want since there are no contractual terms of service, meaning that they could very well just not allow you to use unlimited or 4g or just throttle it to the point where even LTE is almost useless since there is nothing saying that they can't do that

My impression is that Vz chose to offer unlimited because it made them look good (marketing-wise). Then as they realized customers were actual USING unlimited to full potential (correct wording?), they freaked out and are now trying to figure out how shut it down...

Mr ShamWow is not who they should have as a spokesperson to spearhead this marketing U-turn...
