[Updated] Verizon Plans To Eliminate 'Grandfathered' 3G Unlimited Data Plans

Proof? i am a high user on 3g and 4g no throttling going on . i see more proof in these forums against throttle than i do for throttling

They do throttle people, under the "Network Optimization" clause. It doesn't mean it happens to everyone, or all the time, but it has started, and as the towers get congested it will spread and happen more and more. I don't have to prove it, others have reported that it happens to them, and Verizon released the new policy months ago. It's happening, and will increase as time goes on.

If you don't mind having a nice phone but doesn't work when you need it to, then go to Cricket. They lease towers from the bigger CDMA carriers, however they only get the least used towers from the owner. So, in other words, you get the leftovers. If I'm out motorcycle riding and I need help I don't want to turn on my Cricket phone and it say "no service".

Didn't say I was switching. I will go with Tmobile or Sprint. I am just referring to the industry in general. Just noting an article I read that said the little guys are gettin customers from the bigger guys for the first time in... well ever.
I will try to find that article.

When I looked at the same page from last night... I was like :icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek: ... I thought I was in a twilight zone!:p Loads of Mr.Clean cleaning up :hail: really well.

I Like your reasoning @PereDroid, and that is what that spokeperson from Verizon said, Verizon are so famous with their brand n products by word of mouth... that's US! We are important even though we may be few millions out of 90 millions number that they announced. After reading what ShamWoW said, it is clear that Verizon's action with these changes are pure cockiness and greed.

I hate Iphone tho... and now it doesn't matter anyways as I want to hold on Unlimited data. All I know is if you are getting subsidize phone, Iphone will cost them more. Iphone 5 will not hog or be a problem to Verizon any longer as they are smart enough to lock them down with Tiered Data. If you want to keep unlimited data and already on 4G, then you can get iPhone full retail. They will be very expensive, and who wants to move to Apple once you taste the goodness of Android OS dancedroid.

The cost of these phones might be slightly increasing on Ebay etc... but thankfully these are CDMA phones. We do not have to compete with Worldwide base :happy3:.

Verizon are very good with Divide and Conquer. They will pinpoint each individual and get rid of them because they used loads of data once they are out of 2 years contract. They will not cancel all unlimited data users as that will be suicide and they know this. Those users that use massive data can complain and cry all the want, but will receive less backing than now as the rest of Unlimited Data users will do Monkey See Monkey Do on you. Better watch out your data once your 2 years contract is up. :icon_ lala:

What about in a year when the iPhone 5 is available on eBay for $400? If you're going to try to claim that holding back the iPhone will solve the problem, it's only temporary. The used price will eventually come down.

I know that going forward I'll be buying used phones. I may get a year old phone but I'll keep my unlimited data and won't make the same mistake that I made getting this Razr, thus saving me money in the long run.

"Sprint added a net 263,000 subscribers to the Sprint network on contract-based plans, which are the most lucrative. That was up just a smidgen from last year's figure in the same quarter, but it comes as AT&T and Verizon Wireless have seen big drops in new customers."

I did read it, and I see through the legal crap and "cover your ass" messaging...

You will lose it. They said when they got rid of unlimited that they would not push people off. They are. They said they would not throttle high bandwidth users. The do.

You haven't won any battles, you just bought yourselves a few months while they navigate the PR angle and continue forward.

Every time, they take something away or add a new cost, some people complain, they tell you what you want to hear so that you shut up and go away, and in a few months they go ahead and do the original thing anyway. I predicted this last year and have been right every time...

Exactly the people that think they can keep there unlimited data forever need to look at the facts and the facts are they make more money going to tiered data and if they lose subs they will make it up in the data.. And like I've been saying for days when ur out of contract they can change any terms they want even simply say u must change ur data plan or u will automatically be put on so and so data plan or terminated service. The ppl thinking they can just buy a phone off contract and keep unlimited forever are indenile or no nothing about business.. There saying that so not every1 gets pissed at 1time then when they launch data share believe it or not alot of ppl will leave unlimited then after the storm they will FORCE everyone to it!!

Exactly why we, the consumers, are complaining. They are putting money before loyalty. They might make more money on the short term, but they will start bleeding money once they lose subscribers. As ignorant as some are on bills, if people start refusing to pay and go to the competition, it won't matter what they charge for data.

AT&T still screws folks over...and they're not crying at all...

Most folks just don't care honestly. That's the truth. The internet always feels like their voice represents the public. The public's voice is the public. And they still love AT&T.

And they'll love Verizon. Or, they will complain, yet still keep 'em. And only move AFTER their contract is over and their friends are going "the XXXXXXX is on YYYYYY!!!!" and they can't pass it up.

Ey? I don't tell anyone to hold back on anything. All about economic power of each individual. I even encourage those that already in Tiered Data to get iPhone (if you like them OFC). It costs Verizon more if costumer get iPhone. If you are under Unlimited Data, then you should already know the deal from reading Verizon's email. I don't care what phone you would want to get then:biggrin:.

I agree with you there. The majority tends to flock to whatever is the latest and greatest. I still feel VZW is making a mistake that can cost them rather than save them.

If people would take more initiative, this kind of thing would not have happened, especially to a great company like VZW. They are actually pretty smart to exploit those who don't care.

Why would anyone move before their contract is over if they are in the unlimited tier yet? I think most would stay on and ramp up data consumption for the duration of the contract before breaking contract and paying them the ETF.

Not sure until they unveil their family share plans that are in the works. Next couple months I think.

This is going to be a net win for VZW customers. I'll bet more customers come out ahead with the family share plans than individuals "losing" their precious unlimited data. Probably 95% of users don't hit 4gigs, anyway. So there's not going to be a mass exodus of customers to "punish" VZW. That's a pipe dream.
