Thats still bs tho off contract phones are gonna cost 1000$ soon the way there going.. just go to tiered family share plans with high gb plans like 10 15 20gb and also have the data pro like att does where u get pretty much a free hot spot.. And let the ppl with unlimited keep unlimited and do the normal throttling when they get to a massive amount some ppl will even switch to the family share plans and every1 will be happy

I don't see how this solves anything, unless you plan on keeping the same phone forever or don't mind paying an extra $500+ for every new phone.

I wish they'd clarify what they mean by "this summer", or at least tell us that we'll be given advanced notice as to when this will take effect.

I'm sure we'll all get a timely letter in the mail or an email from VZ. And it will start off by saying "As you all have heard, I'm sure, last week we implemented.... "

They said we cannot be forced to give up our unlimited data as long as we buy our next phones at full retail

Bingo, and a big "I told you so" to all the people that I have been telling that this was gonna happen for the past 12 months, that didn't believe me. I have had this argument uncounted times, as they sat there smugly in their "I am grandfathered in Unlimited"... When VZW started talking about throttling Unlimited plans after 2GB of usage, they still maintained that it would never happen.

And here we are. LOL

I get to keep my grandfathered unlimited forever and I can use 100 gigs a month if I want.just can't use upgrades anymore. Told YOU so. :D

As for the first argument about how it's going to suck since new, off contact phones are going to cost $1000...
Verizon will most likely still sell these phones for $300 so you'll save around $700 by going the official upgrade route, on the other hand if you get to keep unlimited rather than switch to the top tier data plan of 10GB for $80($50 more than unlimited) you'll make up that $700 in just 14 months, and you'll save about $400 until you're eligible for another upgrade (22 months I believe)

Yea keep using 100gb a month and see what happens after this lol

Today Verizon confirmed that NOTHING is going to happen.we can keep our unlimited as long as we buy full retail. They made this an official statement.there's not enough of us heavy users for it to matter. Lol u were wrong buddy. Thankfully

They should just throttle after 5 or 10gb on the unlimited plans... The mobile plans aren't meant to replace home connections. Or maybe even 20gb since they are preloading blockbuster... That way only the real data hogs are affected and the rest of us reasonable data users can keep our unlimited plans and still be able to upgrade.

So your solution is that they throttle everyone because it wouldn't affect you? Wow...

His solution isn't to throttle everyone. But a set cap where your full speed gets throttled for the remainder of the billing cycle isn't a bad idea.
If you want unlimited then you can run 10 / 20 / 60 / 100 / etc gb of data, but at a point you don't full speed for it. that's a pretty fair compromise.

and watch the name calling. no need to call someone a traitor on here, or anywhere. be respectful.

...throttling 4g speeds is NOTHING...even with a fairly strict throttle, if you have a decent signal then your 4g speed will still as fast or faster than most home internet (typical home internet speeds are something like 5-15 mbps and how often does your 4g only get 5 mbps?)
Try being throttled on 3g and getting less than .5 mbps...

4G speed that never dulls?
or Unlimited data?

can't have both. and that's the kicker. never did Verizon promise full speed with unlimited data ( unless I'm missing something in the ToS )
it's a luxury we've been afforded as they tried their best not to put a crutch on things. but it is what it is.

which one would you give up?

VZ is only interested in their stockholders and giving the impression that they care about their customers. CFOs/CEOs are hired/fired on bottom line profits - not whether they are "nice" to their customers... All huge corporations are like this.

Its probable that Vz's CFO has been chastised for his choice of words to the board (that were made public) and I am sure he will be choosing his words much more carefully the next time he speaks in public - whenever that may be...

I'm not the most observant guy in the world, but I really missed that 3rd paragraph "full price" statement in Vz's clarification when it first came out. I could have sworn there originally were only 3 paragraphs, not 4?? Probably just me...
