Verizon begins sending customers early upgrade promotions

HAHA i tried to do the upgrade from Incredible (which I got on day 1) and my wifes crackberry which is do for an upgrade and was only able to upgrade the crackberry. Said I was not eligible on the Incredible

I wrote a really nice email to CS, and the reply from "Ron" was an emphatic NO. And "Ron" reminded me in the email that I had a contract to fulfill until April of 2011. I was eligible for an upgrade on 12/2/10, and have been a customer of Verizon since 2002 or 2003. For some reason, "Ron's" response ticked me off enough to start wondering about other carriers in my area.

So, if someone from Verizon is reading this, and I'm sure you are; understand a nice no would not have upset me, however, a no with a comment about me having to fulfill my obligation really ticked me off.

I tried the same thing... Wrote a nice email to CS,asking about the early upgrade program for the Droid X that some people had received. I didn't even ask to upgrade my phone, just wondered what it took to qualify for the program. And I got the same kind of response. Some superficial politeness slapped on top of a pretty terse declaration that I didn't qualify, and that I had a contract with an upgrade date. Gee, I already knew that. Never did get an answer about what it takes to qualify, which was my real question. I wasn't asking for just me, I'd hoped to pass the info on to a couple of friends.

Dropping Verizon isn't an option right now in my area, but once AT&T replaces Alltel out here and my contract is up, a move is fair game. I've always had great phone service with Verizon, but their CS has left me cold a few times now, this being the latest.

My wife's blackberry was eligible but my droid was not. The rep told me I can upgrade her line and roll it to mine so I get the droid. So I ordered on 7/29 and received my shipping notice today 7/1. I should see it by Tues or Wed. Also I received a flyer in the mail on Saturday that I could upgrade her line...

Is anyone who got this to work (all of these):

1) New VZW as of Nov/2010
2) Two (or more) lines on a family line
3) did NOT get any sort of offer (email; text or snail mail)

If so, please list what number you called, what you said specificaly, how how many you got and how many times you had to call. Thanks.

So, I got my shipping email this afternoon, which puzzles me because it's Sunday. Does Fededx normally operate on Sundays? I'm wondering when I'll actually see it; hopefully Wednesday when I don't have to work.

1. No
2. No.
3. Did not receive anything.

I called around midnight on the 27th, which probably worked to my benefit. I called the 800 number in the video, and waited for a rep for to answer for almost 20 minutes. When one finally did, in a submissive manner I told him that I knew of the promo and asked if I was eligible, which I kicked myself for after the words came out of my mouth. He pulled up my account and said/asked, "You received the video text message, correct?" And I of course said yes. He then said he would be happy to upgrade me. Simple as that. No hassle. Like everything else, depends on who you get. And I'm sure it helped that it was very late in the evening and early in the promo (at least I think early).

How did you call at midnight? I've called past 7 PM to find out that their business office is closed.

1) Do you mean Nov 2009? I've been with VZW for about 8 years. I renewed my contract in Nov '09 when the Droid came out.

2) Two on a family line (the one with the fewest minutes).

3) No offer.

I called the number at the end of the video that was posted earlier in this thread. I called around 4 PM. I said that I got "a message" about an upgrade promotion. They wouldn't let me upgrade my wife's secondary line, but I was able to upgrade my own (primary). I already had a droid 1.

Dunno... the 800 number reps have different hours.

Yeah, I meant 2009 but this forum won't allow me to edit my post. :icon_evil:

What I'm looking for here is someone in my shoes... new customer as of November with two Droids on family plan who haven't received any sort of offer that were able to get this done by calling. So far I'm hearing people who have been long-time customers, have crappy older phones or both. These are incentives for VZW to want to upgrade your phones even if you don't have a message. I'm looking for proof of my situation since it is probably the least likely to be upgraded for lack of reasons.

I've been a verizon customer a very long time, and i've had 3 different phones in the past 2 years, had my Q for a long time, than got a saga, and than got the droid on launch day. Every time I upgraded did the same thing called complained about service and hardware and got free upgrades well free being i didnt have to pay above the promo prices on devices. Had my wifes phone upgraded in Jan of this year to a devour and onto the family plan and than just last week called the number and got her phone upgraded to the ally isnt that big of an "upgrade" however its an upgrade at promo prices, they said the upgrade was through my line and im fine with that since i dont plan on leaving my droid 1 anytime soon, unless the droid 2 shocks me. I did have to call multiple times and didnt even find that number in the video i posted until the night after i was able to do the upgrade and i did have to pay a early upgrade fee of 20 bucks but its better than paying full retail :)

hope this is an answer to your question if not sorry for the ramble.
