verizon just sent me an update to 5.9.901

Some good news is that it appears NOT to assert /system/bin/mount-ext3.sh so permanent root methods should be able to maintain root after applying this update if done properly. We need more time to evaluate everything properly, but for right now this does not appear to be a viable route back to the upgrade path for lovers of cheesecake.

We'll see about that. :) I'm not done, but, I'm going back to bed. I'll post from the xoom.

But if this is an official moto push and not someone using cheesecake, wouldn't this put someone on 5.7.893 (if it loads over top) back on the upgrade path?

Theoretically, Yes. If it loads on top of 7.893 AND this is a true official OTA. Either way though, it's getting pushed which means its gonna be supported. Even if it is a mistake.

It will not install over 5.7.893 directly. I'm running a backup now before I try our theory. I may or may not be able to post my results tonight.

I'll be on this page until i fall asleep lol im on 5.7.893 as well so I'd be glad to know if you figure out anything.

It definitely asserts 5.5.893 in the first line of the script so its not going to install over 5.7.893, BUT looking at the NV edits it performs near the end after it writes the bp.img (CDMA/EvDO radio) it updates the timestamp and version numbers. It's giving me ideas about how to manipulate those values to report the correct version...if they can write to it so can we. ;)

CZ I know y'all don't "do" leaks any more, but was there a clue about this one coming?

Great question!!!

It's too bad idiots had to give TBH so much crap about the nexus. If only they realized the MAJOR impact TBH has had on the android community. I can think of no other single outfit that has done so much for us.

Thank you for the supportive words, I really appreciate the sentiments, but lets not derail this very important thread with this discussion please. The reason for the changes at TBH had nothing to do with anything that happened in the community, despite all the outrageous behavior of many. Thanks!

My process is now:

1) ReleasedRoot back to 886 for system
2) Then apply the 5.5.893 CWR update
3) Then try the 5.9.901 update

Like an idiot, I didn't read what the 5.5.893 CWR update does. This will take some time. And yes, by god, I am forever rooting this thing before I try it.
