verizon just sent me an update to 5.9.901

That being the case the we are at the mercy of Motorola/vzw. Oh crap. Sigh. We could be stuck on this kernel forever. If a solution isn't found by February I'm jumping ship to a phone with an unlocked bootloader.

I don't think you quite understand. I'm a software engineer. I like to mess with things. It's in my nature. Coming from an OG Droid, I figured, ok, locked bootloader, but, still can mess around with it. Sure, IF, and ONLY IF, you don't screw with the boot image. And given that I like to be on the bleeding edge of things, well, I think I do need a phone that's a bit more open. *IF* we get back on the upgrade path, I'll consider it a lesson learned. However, you can be sure that when ICS is released for this phone, a new kernel will be coming with it and basically be required. If we aren't on the upgrade path, we're screwed.

Lol i hear ya.. i built my first computer when i was 12. Im 28 now. As someone with that type of knowledge and experience.. which im sure you are too. I highly doubt moto and vzw is going to shun leaked cheesecake users becase they were searching for way to fix network and software problems... and if all else fails bro.. get a replacement....wont be too difficult considering all the issues some have.. but i want ics and had no data problems.. so i knew not to stray. Besides we dont even know is this latest ota is official. We dont know ANYTHING about it actually.

Yea, it's not like I'm going out today to replace it. :) But if by February we haven't found a solution I'm going to have to consider it. Can't stay on this boot image forever.

I do hope someone figures it out to help others that didn't grab insurance though.

Moto is aware of what we have done. They are working on a fix for us. This most recent update will fix a lot of people, the 5.5 leak crowd. They will get to the 5.7 crowd. No need to 'soak' test your bionic yet. :rofl2:

ROFL! How did you find this out? I really do hope this happens and we get back on the upgrade path. That'd be ideal.

I am at 5.7.893 and it says webtop version "UNAVAILABLE " could you tell me what that means? And is it bad? Thanks

Why not release or leak signed radio and boot zips for official OTAs. We can get the system files, what harm would it do, they would be signed zips. Its not like devs or anyone could actually do anything with them and it would fix this whole issue.

I'm going to sit tight with 5.7.893 (just finished restoring....what a pain that was this morning) and wait. For now. If by my birthday in February, we haven't been able to get past this and back on the upgrade path, well, then it might be time to add a second line and a new phone. What would ROCK is if they released a way to unlock the bootloader on non-VZW carriers and some enterprising dev figured out how to make that work for us. :D But, I don't see that happening any time soon. However, if the above is true and Moto is working on a solution for us leaked idiots, well, great. Lesson learned, won't do it again. :D

One of the .893 updates breaks the webtop. There is a way to fix it. You have to use ReleasedRoot and Forever root tool to flash your System to .886. Then you need to apply forever root and then Flash the Full 5.7.893 update to put yourself back. It was one of the incremental updates you did along the way that breaks webtop. basically this time you skip the leaked updates in between and you flash directly to 5.7.893

What it may mean is that you cannot use the Bionic HD Dock that allows you to use the Droid Bionic as a Webtop. It may also affect the ability to use the laptop dock, but don't quote me on it.

I'm thinking the Webtop component of your software may be missing.

EDIT: WS beat me to it, and had a better explanation. Thumbs up.

I got the notice to update pop up a couple times but I was in the middle of something so I ignored it until later. I haven't seen it come up again. How do I get it back?

My current version is 5.5.893

OK.. Pardon the rookie question. So the question remains for me, after reading the entire thread (You all were up late while I was snoozing... :icon_ banana:) Anywho... I am stock 5.5.893 no root... Can I upgrade to 5.9.901 without root, using the ZIP file?
