Well what fun would that be? :p More than likely I will wait, as this is a work phone, that has to be stock to work with our systems.

But as a Side Note: I also have a rooted nook color, so I am used to that side of things. But never have been clear on if you can apply .zip updates to non-rooted devices since I got my Bionic. Asking more out of curiosity than anything.

I was on 5.7.893... i unrooted and went back to stock and then took into verizon told them an update just came out and it wouldnt except it on my phone... they tried to do the update and it didn't work so they gave me a new phone :) Problem solved...

ROFLMAO! That is certainly one option. But, I'm trying really hard to be a good boy and find a proper solution to this that doesn't involve getting a new phone. As I said in another thread, I take responsibility for what I've done, I've learned from it, and simply want to find a way back to the upgrade path so I can stay there. I'm not saying there's anything necessarily wrong with trading in your phone, but, that's not a path I wish to go down. I know I screwed up and this situation I'm in is the consequence.

It'll technically work just fine. You don't have to be rooted to apply a signed update in stock recovery.

It changes the baseband from CDMA_N_03.1C.57R ltedc_u_05.115.01 to CDMA_N_04.05.00R LTEDC_U_07.1E.00. As well as some slight version changes to webtop and the kernel.

OK.. Pardon the rookie question. So the question remains for me, after reading the entire thread (You all were up late while I was snoozing... :icon_ banana:) Anywho... I am stock 5.5.893 no root... Can I upgrade to 5.9.901 without root, using the ZIP file?
I have the stock phone. No root. The update popped up on my phone either yesterday or Sunday night. It had a countdown clock telling me if it would auto install if I didn't respond. I think it was 56MB and said it would take 10 minutes.

Let's try and refrain from encouraging people to return phones that are messed up by their own doing and letting it slip by Verizon in order to get a replacement.

Technically, you didn't have to be rooted to get a leaked update. :) A full, signed update of 5.7.893 was around that could be flashed in stock recovery. That's what I used. So, the root voids warranty argument doesn't NECESSARILY ring true here. Nonetheless, most of us that applied the leaked update, most likely rooted, as well, yes. But that's only an assumption. :)

Harsh dude. Say did you know your cap is crooked? lol. Maybe we will get a captured file soon.

RMD

Sorry if i was out if line last night but im stuck in the same data loss limbo for 2 months now(plus screaming 9 week old doesnt help much) but it appears 1 developer was able to obtain the leak so were not all screwed. And yes. My hat is backwards and to the side. "Im a gangsta miss katie" but seriously im just a dork that grew up driving rx7's and convertible turbo coupes. DIdn't hurt that every time i would straighten it the girl i was with would turn it right back for me.

To be fair, the warranty doesn't really cover the stupidity of installing leaked updates. :D

Eggzactly... that is why I will wait for OTA, and more curious about the process. This was the whole trial that was decided with Apple iOS ... We own the hardware and can do what we want software wise to it. As long as we understand the warranty is void, once we step outside official updates/OS versions.

Kind of like when you add a turbo to a stock car engine. Warranty go bye bye...
