verizon just sent me an update to 5.9.901

Anyone arguing about sneaking one past Verizon must not have had data issues. I have no scruples about returning a phone I "voided the warranty" on an attempt to make it work as advertised.
30$ a month for unlimited data, not when it wants to work data.

I think you have a point there. I do not feel like returning my device because I don't like used things...not to sound snotty but I like to keep my original phone unless there is a catastrophic issue but so far I've never had a problem that bad. We should not have had to install a leak just to get our data to work even 50% of the time. Verizon/Moto should do something for us just trying to get our $300 phone to work halfway right. Verizon should not have released it knowing it had this problem and I would appreciate if they righted both their and our wrongs and somehow got us back to where we should be...hopefully with working data.

While I agree with the frustrations with the Bionic, two wrongs don't make a right, and it doesn't really matter b/c the bottom line is we're not going to discuss/encourage it here on our forum, whether wrong or right.

That wont work, if they flash back to 886, they'll be stuck with those that applied leaked updates because kernel and radio wont rollback. Then when whatever update they try to upgrade to checks for specific versions, the update will fail.

Not talking about rolling kernels or radios back. Only referring to the system partition. It is able to be rolled back. On the previous versions you could do this. Having the 886 system would allow the phone to be rooting then you flash your system partition back.

The problem lies with getting back to 9.901. To apply that update, you need to have the 893 versions, once you apply the 901 update the first time then you'll no longer have the 893 versions.

Whats the consensus I cant read 27 pages of this, if I apply this update will I be off the path? I assume not since Verizon sent it OTA.

It's an OTA update, so, regardless of whether it was a mistake or not, they will have to officially support it. I think it's as safe to flash as any other OTA update.

Well ,I couldn't resist. downloaded and installer thru stock recovery and kept root. We'll see how it goes...

I used the update Blur_Version.5.5.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US.zip keep root with forever root. Used stock recovery and put the file on the sd ext and used apply update from sd card in stock recovery. It did add some extra bloat but my phone works lots better. I had a spot in my house I would lose data everytime I went to that spot. I used it in that spot with 5.9.901 and data stayed on. I am happy with this update as it seems to fix the data problem for me.

Does anyone know if this update fixes anything?
All this chat about right and wrong about update path etc. if this update really makes data or camera or whatever better then it matters otherwise who cares.

It adds a bunch of new apps and updates the radio. One can only hope that it's to help fix more of the data issues people have been having.
