verizon just sent me an update to 5.9.901

I am rooted with 5.5.893 (Early build not OTA version and I rooted just last week) but I get an error code 7 when I try to apply this update (Downloaded through droid-Life). Could I be on 5.7.893????

What does your about system show?

I'm running 5.5.893 on a virgin bionic (never rooted, only OTA updates) and system updates tells me 'no update is available at this time.'

I'm in the Pittsburgh metro area.

I'm in Boulder, Colorado, same here, no update yet... still stock, 5.5.893 Got my last update the morning after everyone started getting theirs on this last update. Will keep checking. Anyone heard any info on what this latest update is all about?

Odd they are pushing one out so quickly after the last one unless Verizon is finally getting the a** whoop'n they deserve for the network issues. Was an interesting thread on the reason for the drops. Have a friend that is an engineer with AT&T, of course they are loving it. He thinks it is something they (Verizon) will try to get resolved quickly as they stand to get some real bad press out of it.

Just a quick update: I can't figure out what has changed on my phone since I installed .901. Background - I was on .886 and rooted, then I manually installed .893 (the OTA file), and then last night I manually installed .901. Maintained root.

My camera works much better now in daylight (exposure, color sat, quick, etc.). The signal strength is basically the same as it was on .893. Other than that, I see no difference other than the new apps. Disregarding the bloatware (Slingbox, etc), the big update is the Emergency Alerts app. I had read a couple of weeks ago that NYC was testing the system, and the news reported that only phones with a "special chip" and the application would be able to receive the alerts. I suspect it was the updated radio, not a "chip." Since I didn't wait for the OTA I can't say if this update is targeted to my area (NYC metro).

This post helps not one bit toward the discussion, but there it is.

In the original list of bugs, it says "The first update will fix such and such" leading to believe a second one would be released.

Nobody answered my question but it seems that the answer is yes, the battery level of your phone plays into the OTA install. I checked if there were any updates when my battery was low and there were none. Now that I'm at 80% the OTA 5.9.901 is downloading. Stock phone, no root.

so you're still 5.5.886? I have the stock 5.5.893 file if you'd like to update... same as above, you should be able to install from sd

Yep ! Thanks that'd be great! I'll PM you my web server address. You can upload it there. I just need to make sure the 4ev3r root app has worked. I'm already rooted using pete's one click. Another story. Thanks again

Sent from my BIONIC out in the boonies of TN while picking a guitar!

You know, I do remember reading something about it being a 2-part update, probably done that way so they could keep the OTA file size down. Originally, .893 was supposed to come out in November, IIRC, and the other update "by the end of the year".

Maybe the timing on the whole thing just got so screwed up that the 2 updates pushed much closer to one another than expected?

Whatever it is, I wish that SOMEONE (VZW, Moto, I don't care who) would make some sort of public statement.

FWIW my 4G speeds have been turbocharged since manually installing this via recovery.
