Verizon pulls Android 2.2 "FRG01b" update for DROID 1, future updates uncertain

I will be rather ticked off if I don't get the 2.2 update. However if they decide to cancel the whole thing, I can always root and go with a custom rom which should not be no biggy.

Oh patience does have its rewards, and at times it does not.

Since I ran FRG01B for 3 weeks prior to it being released I would say that is in fact better then 2.1, may even be better the FRG22.

Anyone know how to go back to 2.1? I installed the leaked 2.2 and I did a factory reset on the phone, but it reset with 2.2 still installed. How do I go back to the way it came out of the box? Is it possible? I'm not rooted.

I'm not a Mod, but you posted this in the wrong thread.

There's no question that 2.2 is coming to the Droid, but i believe that Gingerbread will not make it to the Droid...That's kinda sad for whoever is keeping their droid for 2 years..

Probably me, since I just got mine about a month and a half ago with a new 2 year contract after switching from T-Mobile.

I manually upgraded on Tuesday, had absolutely no problems with the install. Afterwards it did run really slow for about half a day after it updated, but since then it's been more responsive and faster then 2.1. I have no idea why it ran sluggish that first day. I've been more then happy with it, though. I did notice that Flash Beta was a little choppy when trying to play video, and occasionally the home screen likes to take a bit loading everything, but other then that no serious problems. If they do try to roll me back I'll finally have to root, something that has suddenly become more attractive with the one click rooting program that you can buy on the market.

I manually updated as well, had the half day of slow performance and then a stable, fast, nice new phone. What all of this is leading me to think is that it's not the OS creating the problems, but the combination of apps/widgets on individual phones.

That app's been yanked by Google. No word on if or when it'll be available. However, the DroidMod team has their DMUpdater that's almost ready for primetime that'll do it for free. Just be patient.

Patience my friends, I know it sucks but it will come eventually. All I want is true hands free dialing. The other stuff is icing on the cake.

So is there any "official" word from VZW as to whether or not frg01b was pulled, if 22 is gonna be the new update, or if its all scrapped for another release candidate? So many rumors flying around now from all the interwebz its hard to keep it all straight.

I highly doubt this.

Perhaps shelving it for now, so that the Droid X can continue selling like wildfire, perhaps.

The update is inevitable, and it's more than obvious that stock D1's can handle Froyo. Stock Froyo runs worlds faster/better/smoother/more efficient than Android 2.1 ever did.

What to do?

Ok... I manually updated to 2.2 ( FRG01b ) and am having issues. Mostly GPS related stuff. Anyway.. I'm not too happy about it and would like to do one of two things. What would be the easiet for me (I'm very new at all this).

1. Am I able to go from 2.2 to 2.2 rooted? And is there an easy way to do this?

or

2. Go back to 2.1 at this point I may you the new one click root to 2.2

Please help! This is all so confusing!
