Verizon Set to Alter their Upgrade Policy

Does this have an effect on those of us who are thru 1 year of our 2 year contract, but are eligible for an iphone upgrade according to the verizon and apple sites?

Only affect once you sign a new contract. Doesn't affect curent contracts that are pre- Jan 16th.

So hold on. This means we, the consumers, are now paying full price for the phones? No more of those tempting discounts to get us to sign up? Im having a hard time believing theyre going to easily get people to plunk down $400 for a one year iPhone.

Not at all. This thread is discussing the previously generous policies whereby VZW has been providing "early upgrade discounts" to those on their two year contracts so that you could get a new device after being on the plan for a year. There will always be subsidies provided when you sign up for a new contract.

Seems this is going to hurt Best Buy alot. They can only offer 2 yr VZW contracts currently. That's the only reason I went with a 2 year recently... no other coice if I wanted to take advantage of the good deal BB had going on the Incredible. Then I ened up taking the Incredible back for the X (wouldn't ya know it!). Too many issues with the Incredible, but the X has been as smooth as silk. At least if I have to wait 20 months, I have a phone I'm happy with... for now.

As was mentioned, guess I'll see what they bring out at CES 2012. Those should be on the market by the time I can upgrade. I'm new to smartphones, but will they ever come out with a phone that will keep my application open so I can go back to the info I had? In other words, switch applications just like I switch windows on my PC without losing the data. Or do I just not understand how to use my new phone??

Well, all hope is not lost. Today on the news they reported that Verizon will offer some type of alternative. What that will be I don't have a clue.

Can someone please explain this to me, I'm not going through all these threads? I'm not very smart when it comes to these upgrade plans and this NE2 jargon, so I need your help.

I just upgraded to that 1300 minutes promotional plan about a month ago and I also upgraded my phone from my D1 to the DX and got the promotional price of $199.

How does this new VZW policy effect me now?

Thanks.

Look at your account on line. If you see an upgrade date then you won't be affected. This doesn't go into effect anyway until tomorrow, IIRC. However after you next new every 2 then you will not be eligible for that deal.

I just talked to a rep and asked him about the new policy. He said that from now on, after your next new every two, you will be able to upgrade for whatever the 2year contract price is. He didn't know if those prices were going up a little or not...but it honestly doesn't sound bad to me (seeing as I really only save $30 on NE2, that to me is a joke!)

Perhaps you aren't aware that holding down the home key brings up a list of the last 8 apps you used. You should be able to switch to them in the state they were in without losing data. This critical feature isn't always obvious to new users.

This is good. If they have to change too much to implement this change they may decide to back out for now. I hope.

Has anyone lost there annual upgrade as of today? Those who had not used it, that is, between months 13 & 20?

I may have missed the info somewhere in this post but im guessing that the primary line of a family plan will continue to get the annual upgrade in the future and this change will only effect the other lines.

Thanks a ton! No, I had no idea it would do that. Now I think my phone may be 'smart' after all. Guess I need to try to dig up an owner's manual on-line somewhere. I'm sure there is plenty more it will do that an owner's manaul would point out. Why no owner's manual with the phone? Or at least a link to one on-line (or did I misss that too in my rush to use the phone)?

Thanks again, Blackhawk.

I don't know how any of you have been able to upgrade as early as 13 months. I have always had a every 2, and the earliest I could ever upgrade was 20 months, and I've been on Verizon for years, back when they had the america choice or whatever plan it was called. So this doesn't affect me at all if they keep it at 20 for early upgrade.
