Verizon Tech here - ask away!

Viperboy,
Hello and thank you for being here!! I have two questions related to the call quality for my callers:
(1) I seem to remember someone saying there is a downside to using the EVRC-B... any thoughts? (Sorry, just found the answer to this one a few pages back, so please disregard Q 1).
(2) Some on this forum have recommended turning off Voice Privacy. What is this, and will it help? Is there a downside.
Thanks!!

That is a question for Tech. That is a network feature and I honestly don't know what that does or how it works. If you find out, please let us know. I will try researching the answer as well.

Not sure if this has been asked but... is there a way for verizon to identify if you've got your phone tethered, even if you're not on their (bastard) tethering plan...?

I haven't seen a way for verizon to tell what kind of apps you're running, but it is possible if you're pulling 20+ gigs a month lol

Well, we can see your data usage. But most likely a Fraud team would be the ones to talk to you about that. The whole point is, PDANet can cause you problems with Verizon. Keep that in mind.

My droid did the update all on it's own and now my camera is taking really messed up pictures. They are all just pure noise. The camera flashes but it's still all noise. Any ideas? Thanks!

I think Locale will be your best bet, but I don't know of a plug-in or even a program that will check to see if you have coverage and adjust the radio accordingly. Great idea, maybe that could be implemented as a Locale plug-in in the future or something.

Actually, I don't think there is a way for an app or anything else that would do what he is asking, mostly because of the design of cellular access from what I can tell. If I recall correctly, all cellular phone access technology will 'try' to get a signal, and once it does, it will try and sustain enough power to ensure service until it can't do it at all. I am not sure if it will simply 'passively' detect it if you had an app that put the phone in Airplane mode because it is no longer trying to make a connection, there for, cannot sense if you are in a live area. Your closest, next bet would be GPS reception detection where it goes, "oh, you are within this area." which would also require you to be on the outside for it to work within reason.

From my understanding of Locale, and how I have it setup for me, it would try and triangulate where you are at, check the conditions and go from there. In his case, it would be best to have timed conditions as well as location so it will default to that state for the most part and then once he leaves that area under the time conditions, it will flip back to normal state.

That's very odd. In the store, I have not seen that issue one single time. I will try to read up on it. Can anyone pinpoint what might be causing this problem?

Viper, thanks for a reponse. This is the link to the thread I started. I do not know what might be causing it to disappear and other's have some inputs.

I will read that when I can. Thanks.

Did you try booting in SM and wiping off the lens just in case?

Or someone could write an app that tells the phone if service is lost, wait 1 minute. If no service, go into airplane more. Wait 2 mins, turn off airplane mode. Check for service. If no service, turn on airplane mode and so on. Seems fairly simple :)

Just a heads up - EVRC-B does NOT work for me as an ex-Alltel customer in Phoenix, AZ. It's completely silent. 13k does work.

I have a question. Before the recent firmware update, my phone support videos that were larger than 1 gb in size-- now the video player only supports videos under 500 mg in size AND it's renaming some of the video files. In fact, when it's not doing that, it's dumping them completely. Any ideas? Seems like everything was fine until the update.

kms1325, just a thought, you don't by chance have a case that you keep your Droid in at night that has a magnetic clasp do you? I did at first when I bought my Droid on day 1 of release and the VZW store didn't have any Droid cases so she gave me an Eris case and said it looks the same. Yes, it was the same except the magnetic clasp! The real Droid case uses velcro instead of magnets to hold the case shut because otherwise it will put the Droid into dock mode and it will be on the whole time it's in the case.....hence dead battery the next morning.

I have a question-when I go to an extended network area, I lose my data connection. My Blackberry 8330 would slow down as it was a 1x area but I still could receive e-mails, etc. I have tried a *228 but I still have this issue. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks. FYI, the area I am speaking is the Wabash/Peru, IN area.

aloha local girl, go to settings from your msg window and uncheck Delivery Reports. Than should do the trick.

Backlight for keyboard and touch sensitive buttons

Hi all. About 4 days after the 2.0.1 update the backlight on my keyboard and touch sensitive buttons does not want to come on anymore, even in the dark. Sometimes adjusting the brightness settings will fix it until next restart, but the results do not always last. I have tried a hard reset already. Thanks for any help.

Droid unresponsive --HELP--New user

Hi--not only am I new to this forum, but I just brought my brand-new Motorola Droid home from the Verizon store about 3 hours ago, where it seemed to be working just fine. A couple of hours ago, it announced that it was going to update itself and restart. I just came back in a few minutes ago to see the phone, at it appears to be un-responsive. "Droid" is flashing on a dead black screen. None of the keys work--can't turn it off, no screen display other than what I described. I took the back off, took the battery out, replaced it, then turned the Droid back on. Same thing--the Motorola "M" shows on the screen, then a red diamond-light, then a flashing "Droid" on a black screen. Nothing works. can't receive calls, either. Do I have a dud?
The use manual wasn't in the box, but I found it online--no help there. Hope you can help me!

When I text my friends they get multiple copies of that text and I can't download pix that are sent to me.

I think verizon is having problems with txting...because im recieving mutliple txts as well as many of my friends/family that is on verizon and its not just me sending txt its other people sending them . I even get mutiple txt from people who are noton verizon..but they only sent it once.
