Issue with Verizon Deceptive Voice Mail Upgrade

I received my Droid as a present from my daughter who added another line to her Verizon service. I like the phone but have an issue with the deceptive way Verizon pushed out an update. Yesterday, while connected to the Verizon network a notice pops up asking if I would like to upgrade the Voice Mail. The notice said it was a free application which would allow me to access voice mail without dialing in. I answered yes and an application was downloaded.

After the application was downloaded another message pops up asking if I wanted to install the application. At the bottom of a screen of about 300 words it said there would be a $2.95 a month service fee. I cancelled the install.

Now I have an Icon on my desktop for the application which is not installed and can't find any way to deleted it. If you touch the icon it opens and asks if you would like to install it.

I don't like clutter or the misleading way this application was pushed out by Verizon. Any application should have an upfront notice of any service fee. It is a deceptive practice to say an application is free then put a notice at the bottom of a page, which you have to scroll down to find, the service costs $2.95 a month. It would have been very easy to miss the notice of a service fee, install the application and my Daughter is stuck with the bill.

To get the icon off the homescreen, tap and hold. Also called a "long press" by some around here. You should see a yellow line around the icon. Drag it down to the application drawer, which should have turned red and be displaying a trashcan. As soon as you touch the trashcan, it will be gone.

And I agree with you about the bait and switch of that marketing policy. Verizon has done this for awhle. They did it with VCast functions, too.

Here's a link to the User Manual, which can answer many of your questions about the phone itself: Motorola Droid - User Manual

When you say "call quality reprogram" you mean changing your vocodec to EVRC - B?

OK, How does on delete emails from the Gmail account???

I just open my gmail with the app that came wit6h the Droid called "gmail"

When opening, it goes to my inbox.
At the bottom you will see a button that says "delete".... "if you have any messages".

If I want to delete anything else.. just go to menu at the bottom and hit "view labels",,, from there you will see all other locations.... when you choose one of those locations, it will load all your messages in there.. once you select a message, again there will be a delete button at the bottom should you want to use it.

This is a HUGE problem for me seing as how I bought the phone to use a good browser. Well, prior to the update, my browser ran great, now its a flaming pile of dog poop(sorry but its a hell of a lot slower with scrolling and the lags terrible).

So much that I hardly use my browser anymore due to the scrolling lag the browsers having.

Has there been any updates on this?

puzzling... I get no browser lag at all and the "dolphin browser" has really gotten great.... very smooth and good pinch zooming.

Thanks JessiesGirl,

I am new to using the Droid and your advise was helpful but that method of deleting doesn't work on this icon. I tapped and held the icon. The trash can turned red. I dragged the icon to the trash can and you would think it was deleted but the icon is still on my home page.

I may have to install the application and risk the $2.95 service fee before I can get rid of it. It says in the manual on page 173 you can Uninstall an application but I guess it has to be installed first not just downloaded.

Uninstalling an application
You can uninstall any application that you have downloaded and
installed from Android Market.

1.
On the My downloads screen, tap the application you want to
uninstall, then tap

Uninstall.
2.

When prompted, tap OK to remove the application on your
phone.
3. Choose the reason for removing the application, then tap OK.

Sounds like your in a area thats not updated yet to the -B... have you tried the first selection? "13K"...

Its an older vocodec and I tried it.. I thought it sounded better than the EVRC where I"m at... the EVRC-B is just bolder and more full.

Puzzling? Majority of the ppl who have droids are experiencing horrible choppiness when scrolling on their browser... Infact, Ive yet to hear somebody who ISNT lagging/choppy when scrolling

If I could get over the hump of copying the update.zip to my phone so I could root it then I'd get 2.1 but for some odd reason my phones not liking the update.zip file and is being stubborn and wont open... :(
