[VIDEO] 10min Root complete Guide

I remembered reading a while ago, when I was trying to take screenshots, about modifying a driver file for Windows7.
Installing HTC Incredible Android SDK Drivers |
I tried this and it didn't change anything for me. Maybe give it a shot.
Yes that is why everyone is using the HTC Sync drivers they do work. I get a connect with them on bootloader no problem, but when it switches to recovery I lose it and it goes to mass storage instead...grrrr ;)

I have the exact same issue.
I see HTC bootloader under ADB Interface right up until I boot into recovery.

Just out of curiosity, what virus software are you using?

I woke up this morning wanting to root this phone just to install root explorer and get rid of all the junk. Now I want to root it for revenge.
It's winning right now, though:(

I think until someone comes up with a way to keep the connection we are screwed, I could see if this was only happening on one machine..but I've tried 3 all with the same results. So I'll wait, I'm not messing with it until a sure fire root method is shown. ;)

I hear ya.
I tried using 2 Win7 64bit laptops, 1 XP laptop, and 1 XP desktop.
All are giving me the same problem.
It almost seems like it's a problem in the phone itself that won't communicate like everyone elses.

the files I uploaded have this edit done already.... it was worth a shot... looks like it's not working though.

I do agree it might be an issue with some laptop usb hubs too though... that's a good call.

So frustrating. I tried on a win 7 laptop, a win 7 desktop and even a macbook pro running bootcamp win 7. Two had 64 bit and one 32 bit. All failed. When I go to recovery, Android device disappears from device manager and device manger shows 2 disk drives (Android).I did all the editing of the inf file too, just for kicks. I am just stuck.

I wiped my phone and uninstalled/reinstalled all software to no avail. I might try a fresh Windows7 install tomorrow.

So, does this make any sense whatsoever?

Tried this after remounting for R/W access:

/system/bin/rm system/app/CityID.apk

Apparently it doesn't exist but it is most definitely still on my phone. Can't find it through Astro/root browser.

I removed City ID through RootExplorer, but it is still there also

PHEW!!!!!!
Ok I just got it. It only like me about 10 hours off and on:laugh:

I used the SD card trick and it worked first try. Holy moses!
I'm going to find the exact steps for that trick and post it here in a few.
It definitely seems like a driver issue with 64bit systems. Once I did this trick, in a loop, I noticed my laptop re-finding a driver and the rest is history!
Tomorrow I will try to copy the driver and share it.

try this maybe?

Code:
1. Load up the fastboot menu by holding down power and the optical trackpad.
2. Plug in the USB cable
3. Press power again to select fastboot.
4. Click the SD card out, highlight recovery, and then press power to select recovery.
5. As the first white HTC screen is loading, you will hear a "detach" sound if you are on a windows computer. Immediately click the SD card in at this time.
6. Try to get into shell.
7. If you did not get into recovery, reboot into the OS by holding down power and volume up and clicking power again. Do a battery pull and repeat steps 1-6.

Giving credit where credit is due (I hope:))

Glad it worked for you... it has worked for a few that were having the same trouble..... I'm not sure it's a card issue as some have reported... but more of a card seating issue imo.

Either way i'm happy it worked for you and others too... :)

As for removing cityid.... the only time you can write or delete to /system is right after you root.... there is what's called NAND protection on /system / recovery and a few other areas that has not been broken yet...

So to remove cityid... repeat the root process and after you push su, busybox and the others.... remove cityid also.
