VZW disabling tethering apps from market

No, I only said they could and probably should and gave concepts on how and reasons why and steps they are taking/could take.

I want to applaud you. You are the first person to say it is your opinion. Everyone else seems to think that there opinion is fact, and any opinion that differs is wrong.

I have stated what I say is not fact. It is what I believe and no one can change that

And besides 15 years of computers and internet I have learned there will always be someone wanting to beat the system. I know it is not being eliminated.

We'll see when Verizon moves over completely to tiered data plans. Whether there is an extra charge for tethering or not, we will be paying in some way by how much data we use.

hmmm donno if its because this whole thing with Verizon but my wireless tether (the app that requires root) was working fine last week, and today im having issues tethering on my laptop??

What I don't get is the amount of people (well... one person who has been doing it for a very long time on here in particular) are so adamant towards whining that tethering is being eliminated. It explicitly states in your contract that you cannot do it. No gray area. Don't do it anymore. Its that simple. I don't care if you're tethering a little or tethering a lot. I don't care if you have unlimited data, DON'T DO IT.

Just because you have unlimited data, you are not allowed to tether to whatever you want. In fact, you are strictly forbidden from it. I don't care if we don't have verification that Verizon right now doesn't have the ability to tell. Don't freaking do it anymore.

And lets not rationalize this. Technically, you're stealing their bandwidth by tethering to a laptop. The phone's data plan is not there to power your other devices. So just stop it.

Well...people like to tell themselves there's a "gray area" to justify what they're doing.

Second, let's say they can't tell your tethering (which of course...they can). But let's say they can't. What difference does it make? Tethering will soon be coming to an end (or at least the abuse of tethering) with tiered plans. I can't wait to see what the "gray area" will be then. The whiners will find something else to whine about

Whiners, I can't speak for every one but the general consensus is that we would like a plan so people can tether without using the bootleg apps. Paying 20 bucks for.a month when.you may use less than a gig in tethering is what people would like to see changed. And the purpose of this thread is for people to be able to discuss these things. And all comments have been welcomed including yours. But people expressing.concerns are not whiners.

The general consensus definitely is that, but I still am amazed that people fail to see that the way to convince carriers to implement such a plan is NOT by stealing service from them. Like I said, you can't drink and drive and then complain to the courts that the drinking and driving laws are unfair. You don't break the law to forge change, you stand up against it. I know this sounds all patriotic and political, but that's what it is.

Breaking the TOS, abusing the network and stealing bandwidth is not going to make the carriers "Oh gee, let's just give them what they want!"...the android community is far too immature and hell bent on "sticking it to the man" that they are not going to be successful in getting what they want.

So yes, in that respect, I would label the people who complain about this stuff whiners. Or at the very least, throwing a temper tantrum like children because they're not getting their way (except in this case, the child is stealing the toy that their parents said no to, and then crying that their parents said no...)

Let me get this straight, none of the "its stealing to tether, and your going to hell for using even 1MB of tethered data without paying the fee" camp, has ever jay-walked or tried a grape or two at the market and also never ever sped on the freeway.... right?

We are not going to stop those who feel they are entitled. You are right in that you can call VZW complaining about unfair practices if you are breaking the rules. I am not breaking the rules in that I am paying so I feel I can express my concerns and I am just not voicing here but I.also emailed my concerns to VZW about a more flexible tethering plan.

First stop being overdramatic...that's just weird.

Second, I doubt the grape stealers will drive back to the market and say "I just stole two grapes from you and I think you should add two extra grapes to your grape pricing"...but then again...the tether-ers are not doing that either...right?

I don't think it's that. Your statement at least has at least a hint of "I know it's technically against the rules but everybody does it and gets away with it." I think it's the complete delusional justification of unauthorized tethering that riles up the anti-tethering crowd. LOL

Bingo. Complete delusional justification is the perfect way to put it lol

Seriously. If they said, "I know it's against the TOS but I don't care", there wouldn't be much anyone can say about it!

My personal favorite is the good old "Unlimited is unlimited data" and they never told me that I couldn't tether before I signed the agreement defense. I think the Chewbacca defense from South Park makes more sense. LOL
