VZW disabling tethering apps from market

Not open for further replies.
So. If I downloaded and used say 6gb of data on my phone during a month as long as I wasn't tethering it wouldn't piss Verizon off and if I were to tether but stay under 5gb they wouldn't care either? I'm not saying I tether cause I don't but Ive been reading this thread and would like someone to clear that up for me.

its interesting. i just went to easytethers website and they have a section that shows you how to find out what your user agent string is and then you can copy that and go to fire fox and install an add on that allow you to change that string in firefox. it seems to reset itself every time you close firefox but if you just dont close it it seems to stay.

so now im on my little netbook, tethered to my dx, and the websites i go to come up as mobile sites on my netbook....pretty sweet.

just sayin'

You go to fill up your car with $30. You want to use some of that $30 in your portable gas tank, but the station wants a $20 fee to be able to do that. I believe in that case one should hide behind their car and fill up the portable without the station knowing and be on their merry way.

More like they give you a free fill-up say, after purchasing $500 worth of goods in Walmart. Then, after you fill your car, you start filling gas cans. That's wrong and everyone knows it.

LMAO! how is that remotely similar?! They would be giving you free gas to begin with, and then you abuse it. The first poster was dead on - they are wanting extra money for something that does not concern them. It costs them nothing extra. They want to charge you extra for your ability to make choices. No, you can't put gas in your little red can, because there's an extra charge for that.

Now lets go and add $20 dollars plus $10 per gallon onto the credit card of the person who filled up that tank! That's justice! Those filthy, deadbeat, unamerican and immoral thieves deserve it.

I'm so much better than them; I'm so righteous that I pay the $4 a gallon plus an extra $30 for each gas can I wish to use. You're hilarious.

I asked easytether about updates for those who purchased pro from android market and here is what they said

At this time please follow the second part of the Android Market related hint.

Later we'll upload the version that will pick the Android Market license automatically.

I am going to send another email to see how they plan on telling users of a update.

You tetherers are so clueless. Here's what's actually happens: you go to the gas station, they tell you its an extra twenty to fill a can, you agree like a moron, and then steal from them. Seriously stop reaching. You're wrong, you know you're wrong so move on. Stop with the stupid analogies. If you don't care about stealing that's fine but stop with the crappy analogies in some flawed way to justify yourself. You agreed to the extra charge and then you circumvented it. Stop trying so hard...

Every analogy ive read in this thread supporting VRZ 's stance has been weak-sauce at best.

"Weak sauce at best." Pretty much exemplifies the immaturity of the android community. Seriously who says that other than children?

I feel embarassed for you guys lol...

At least you're not blatantly attacking everyone - you're right; I (somehow) agreed to the TOS. not everyone reads the fine print evidently. I got my plan through an authorized dealer, not a VZW store. And I have a copy of every paper I signed there, none of which mention a data cap or tethering.

So the gas station has a TOS that you implicitly agreed to by buying the gas. I don't care - I'm still taking it. Although I don't agree with the providers, I'm not trying to make a big deal. In fact, I've only used tethering 5 times in a full year. 3 of which were just demonstrations to friends. I just don't appreciate the comments others are leaving saying that anyone who tethers is "unamerican." That's taking it too far..

Its already been established, and should be obvious though that using their service implies you agree with their terms. Doesn't matter if you don't have a piece of paper with your signature that says terms of service on it.

I honestly don't care who tethers. That's on them. Its the stupid analogies and justifications thhat are annoying. Tetherers have no justification. There's no gray area. You're stealing plain and simple. People who believe they're truly right wouldn't try so hard to convince everyone they're right. That alone shows that you know you're wrong. So move on. That's it. The analogies are always inherently flawed because no matter what you say you agreed and then circumvented paying.

I think everyone gets wrapped up in this debate for 2 reasons.

1. If you come on here and voice your opinion and it is not for Verizon multiple people start attacking you. Naturally you will defend yourself.

2. Seems that these kind of topics cannot be opinionated. The seem to be its illegal you are wrong.

Maybe all the analogies would stop if the topic was not this way.

I think its more like your guilty conscience puts you on the offensive when someone calls you out. Like I said the tetherers are trying way too hard to convince (themselves?) others that they're in the right. Its transparent.

Thank you. You are absolutely correct. Watch out though: trolls don't show sympathy for anyone showing sympathy.

If you do not share the same view as VZW, you are a bad person, and therefore must be flamed.

Ha ha I know your right. I finally got tired of trying to fight off 3 or 4 people at a time.

I do check in and see if there is actually anything new about the topic.

I intentionally chose that phrase from my children's vocabulary. The intent of its use was it best reflected my feelings about the maturity of those supporting double charges for services already paid.

In a nut shell you guys are making the case that its fair to be charged $20 extra per bag of groceries if you use your own bag, just because there was a tiny sticker near the back service door stating that you accept those terms. -Of course in my specific case, the cashier expressly told me otherwise before hand.( VRZ loyalty matrix rep told me before purchase, DX indeed had free tether)

FWIW- My first few phones were with 'Ma Bell. which is basically what we are back to, with these colusional cellular companies. There is no real difference between them at all. One dings you on tether the other gets 'over on you' in some other well thought out scheme.
