Have a feeling this phone is going to suffer the. Same fate as the merge sadly
Actually, the Merge is back in play. It will release on Alltell and Verizon fairly soon. It has already shown up in VZW's internal system, so it could be a matter of weeks until we see it, most likely within 1-4 months. IF by same fate you mean that the TB will disappear for 2-3 months and then resurface, I disagree. It is too far along at this point to hide from it or shelve it. They simply must fix whatever was wrong and release it ASAP, too much has already been invested to turn back.
The HTC Extd Battery is a 2750mAh with a replacement battery door.
is there a picture of it anywhere? i wont mind it if its not obnoxious, i love long battery life.
also at the merge comment. theres commercials, ads, presales. and bmx himself said that its ready to go.
The HTC 2750 will certainly add some bulk, and will not fit in most cases (unless specially designed for use with that battery, which causes me some concern, in addition to the large $70 price tag). I don't want to have to wait for a case that fits, and the big one is not on sale yet (the HTC website says sometime in April, but that could change). The Seidio 1600 adds no bulk, but it remains to be determined if we will actually see noticeably increased battery life from it or not since its only a 200 mAh boost (it might be quite minimal, but it's still good to have an extra battery around regardless). If you want to see how much bulk the HTC 2750 battery could possibly add, go to Seidioonline.com and compare the EVO's extended battery and door. That should give you a good idea about how big the TB one will be. If you don't want a case, and don't care if this device fits in your pocket, and want to spend the extra $70, and can wait 1-2 months, then go for the HTC 2750. Otherwise, consider other options.
I agree, the TB is definitely coming out within the next few weeks - commercials, ads, presales, accessories for sale, dummy units arriving, hands-on reviews, HTC CEO comments, and bmx comments all lead towards a light at the end of the tunnel, not darkness. It is solely a matter of timing now (assuming whatever issue that was holding it up was fixed as bmx referred to today before taking down the tweet to cover his back).
I'm just going to toggle LTE off permanently until I get it in my area (and by then they will surely have figured out some fixes for the battery issues). Problem solved. I don't really need the highest speed possible or video chat for a while yet, I just want this phone for many of its other qualities.
so i'm guessing there's no hope for a release tomorrow?
I don't have any. BB and VZW would have had to receive the devices in stock yesterday (no Sunday deliveries) to go on sale Monday. I think we will be very lucky if we see it at all this week, and should set our sights towards 3/10 as of now. If it happens to release earlier, then awesome, but I doubt it at this point.
Then why why don't they use that battery as the main one and can the 1400
Because it adds a lot of weight, bulk, and cost to the phone (manufacturers tend to go for slim and light over great battery life, especially HTC). It was a strategic business decision that sounds like it possibly backfired. HTC should have learned its lesson from the Inc and EVO and given customers what they all want (a phone that lasts for 1 full day with moderate use). They likely figured that 1400, while remaining cost-effective, would be enough to handle it for a few reasons - 2nd gen. snapdragon processor and new semiconductor manufacturing process (smaller 45nm die, both are upgrades from EVO) are supposed to increase battery life, and the LTE network was also hypothetically supposed to increase battery life. The hardware gains are there, but if rumors are to be believed there were connection problems with the network causing the battery issues, which requires some sort of software or firmware fix.
