2.1 ESE53 will be Official Release on the VZW Motorola Droid

The leak we have is a dev build, and will not be the same. When I say not the same, you can be sure the holes left open will be plugged. It seems VERY unlikely changes were made feature and fix wise, seeing how Verizon tests the crap out of everything, and the leaked ESE53 was built at the end of last month.

Newb here. I've had my droid exactly one week and was planning on rooting and playing with roms later this weekend. The news of the OTA upgrade throws a monkey-wrench into my plans.

Having read all 35 pages, I still have the following questions:

1. Does the act of merely rooting my droid mean that I won't get an OTA upgrade? In other words, can I root it today, not bother with doing any ROMs until later, and still avoid the OTA upgrade? Or must I install a ROM today in order to avoid an OTA update?

2. Suppose after a few days it becomes clear that OTA update is fine, that rooting it will be possible, and life in the ROM modding community will go on. If I simply unroot the Droid at that point, will I then have the ability to get the OTA update?

3. I've found plenty of instructions for rooting the Droid. Can someone point me to a link to unroot it for later?

Thanks guys,
Warr

If you root right now. You will still recieve OTA updates.

If you unroot form having a rom you can get the OTA update. But only if you unroot from a custom ROM as they usually block OTA updates.

Just found out that the ESE53 will be the official software that launches with Verizon on 3/18/2010. 2.1 is here!!!!

QFT. I would expect it to be a market download, and NOT included in ANY stock ROM.

Gee, glad you caught up!

You right that adobe has to release the flash. But I believe the understanding was that the update may include a software change that will allow the droid to use flash when adobe releases it. Because I can not compare the two I do not know for sure.

No, you are correct, because it has been reported that the Flash will only be available for 2.1 and up (oh Gee, let's start a 3.0 thread hehehe) as to what is in the kernel or the OS itself, I don't know either.

But the HTC stuff is not Flash 10.1 either, something else from what I've read.

1. If you install a rom you will not get the update. Chances are you won't get it tomorrow either, this isn't all going to happen in 1 day.

2. I don't know, that's why I'm going back to stock tonight.

3. I recommend you use DMupdater and at least root with it. Droidmod 1.0 has worked well for me and you can go back to stock with the simple press of an icon.

wasnt the dmupdater pulled from the market??

To the mods/ admin. I care about one thing and one thing only tomo.

Can the droid be rooted after the 2.1 OTA

When it is official how about posting it on the front page.

Be a job for you hook since you are on the news team aye. :pint:

Also, from what has been out there, this OTA will update the radio as well, something you will only get OTA, unless you flash the SBF to then run your custom ROM.

In other words, rooting and installing a ROM alone will not update your radio.

As to whether or not that is significant, who knows? If it works great, it works great.

Then you read wrong.

The Desire rom dump has Flash 10.1 in it. Older HTC ROMs have flash lite.

Proof please, its another lite.

HTC Hero then scroll down and you will see:
See web pages come alive on a full-featured mobile browser that displays Flash-based sites. *

* HTC Hero browser comes with Flash Lite version 3.1 and supports playback of SWF contents up to Flash 9 and ActionScript 2.0.

Hmmm, pretty sure I said older roms have flash lite. Thanks for confirming it :)

I have seen some people comment that they are going to remove Helix (from stock Droid) before the update. I just got my seven screens all set up the way I want them after quite a bit of effort. Do you think that uninstalling Helix is a wise, if not essential, move? Why? Is there a way to somehow backup my Helix settings? Just want to be prepared. Thanks!

I can't forsee why that would be necessary.
