A Plan For A Brighter Android Future

Don't the Rom developers work for.free for the love of android

Creating roms in your spare time, is not the same as supporting users. the rom makers provide little to zero support. people are always complaining about the lack of support from every dev.

you're suggesting that they hand over the support portion of their rooted users to online forums? outside of their control? or am i just not understanding you...

I am suggesting they build their own forum, recruit staff from these forums and utilize add revenue.

But this has not been thought through.

i see. you know they would have to train this staff though, and i doubt anyone would work for free for the love of android lol

Thats why I said utilize ad revenue

Yeah i guess you gotta think it out more. again no incentive for the carrier. would you really be able to find people who are willing to work, possibly full time for VZW with only ad revenue as compensation? if verizon implements something like that, they would have to reasonably expect their staff to be on set schedules and be available. it can't just be log into our forum whenever you want and help some people out. and when it gets to that point, people are going to want to get paid. not hope for a split of ad revenue. how do you even reveal your ad revenue to your low level workers?

Another simple method is: 'your phone is now out of specification, you can try to resolve the issue yourself or, for $x we will return you phone to specification for you'

In other words, no tech support for rooted devices.

I was thinking short shifts maybe.. something kinda weird.. maybe like the way kbg operates. Per solution basis.

Maybe offer tiered support plans... figure at some point it will level off as user branch out to third party sources when they reach a certain degree of expertise.. Idk yet. Deff needs to be flushed out.

That is my thoughts. No rooted staff would have to be hired. You root and you are on your own. Plain and simple. That is how it is now and yet we still take the risk. Trying to get a warranty replacement for rooted devices is one of the problems. So cut it out. I have run into issues with my rooted devices and on these forums is where o learned to fix them. We want to show we can be self sufficient and not a burden on the carrier. I say no warranty for root devices.

Ok so then what is the incentive for them? that's what they do now, and people just unroot and send back. they'll do it then too. they're not going to stop just by us saying "cut it out"

Well if wugs plan is to pay more upfront cost or have a unlock app with a key then they key entered or the upfront cost would explain itself. We would agree to different TOS. They would not have to tell us to cut it out. Re-read my post. I am saying not even think of warranty for root.

We're getting nowhere going back and forth, so I'm going to ask you one question and then step away.

What is your solution? All I'm hearing from you is why this won't work. OK, you're entitled to that opinion, and I respect it as such, but what will work? If you have no solution, or other ideas that could lead to solutions, then you're effectively saying that this is a waste of time (although you already did that by agreeing with hookbill), and if you believe it is a waste of time, then you're wasting your time posting here. On the other hand, if you do have a solution, we would all love to hear it; that's what this thread is for.

To be honest, I dont think there is any solution. There is simply no reason for VZW or any carrier to give that much control to the user. it sucks, but that's just what it is. i don't have a solution, nor do i claim to have one.

i dont consider posting here a waste of time, i think what i'm doing is preventing other people from wasting their time. if i hadnt posted in the bootloader thread, people would still be looking for hash collisions....you may think i'm wasting time, i'm just using logic to get my point across.

Ah I see, ok makes sense. That's actually a more viable option then trying to get them to hire support staff for rooted users. In fact, I think if there is some way to convince them it would be that way. Whether or not it'll become a reality remains to be seen.

Fixed that post it was a little misleading. Took out void warranty and put no warranty.

Probably worst idea ever but just like computers you buy with pre installed software also junk ware that most people uninstall Verizon could market the Rom and themes as custom software, and keep a cut as well as a cut to the devs as many people that would be using I'm sure there would be some amount of profit. The only issue there is if VZW is selling I'm sure copyrights may come into play, so that if other carriers take to it there won't be issues of stealing. Also like the idea of no VZW support I'm sure we 'd get better, quicker support on fourms .
