ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

Ahh I see things are going back to the norm.
I have a question.
I installed this new update; is the new Easy Root ready for this one?
I believe I'm due given that 2.2 might be the last for D1.

Easy root can root your Droid with 2.2, but I have information that despite what people are saying about the size of the processor there will be a form of Gingerbread for the Droid.

You can always remove the root with easy rooter if this is true.

So I did the manual update two days ago. Phone seemed to work fine but did not notice any difference in performance. Yesterday I powered down the phone as I usually do every few days for good measure and noticed nice difference in performance. I did a battery pull after the upgrade but noticed no difference then. Go figure. Also I am seeing animations working on websites like Smileys and such that I thought were not moving before. Is that just me or did something change?

Thank you sir.
Will look to start my root process soon. I am sure I will have a few questions..
And that's some news on Gingerbread. Idk that but good to hear.

furbearingmammal - nice rant, good points

I just want it to be clear that I was in no way accusing anyone here of having any malicious intent and I certainly wasn't questioning the integrity of the build provided by John Galt (or his personal integrity) (though I see how it may have seemed that way since my post fell into that section and I replied to hookbills post). I also don't want to discourage others from doing what ever they choose to do for whatever reason, I just felt it may help some teetering on the fence of that decision to know that there is more at risk than just your VZW warranty.

I also know that there is little more appealing to someone with malicious intent than an array of fully rooted linux/android networked devices with a decent amount of computing power and a "trusted" mass content distribution framework that can push code to them. Just wanted others to be aware that those with malintent are out there and they are salivating over the chance to leverage this vector.

You summed up my perspective pretty well when you said "To answer an earlier post; rooting your Android device increases risk of attacks. Anyone who knows anything about Linux knows that." My sense and reason for posting what I wrote is that there are very few people out there who know anything about linux.

That would be flash that would do that. But so far with the manual update nobody has reported receiving flash. I am asking people who are getting the OTA to report if FLASH is included in the OTA.

I too did the manual update but I already had flash installed. If the manual update has flash then you're the first to report it.

my wife's phone received the ota update this morning at 6am from verizon. it is the FRG01B build. mine was already manually updated. I pulled the two files for comparison. they look identical. I did re-update my phone again last night due to some of the confusion in this thread about the manual update, it said it patched some system files. The battery issues I was having seem to be gone today. My phone has been off the charger for 3hrs and it is still at 100% but I have used it very little. but yesterday it was off for 3hrs and dropped 30% with no use at all.

Identical as in identical to the first FRG01B update or this latest FRG01B update file?

Is identical the the later update. I do not have the manual from last week any longer and didn't go download it again. Once I seen the one I had match i didn't go any further.

when I manually updated flash was not installed I had to go get the .apk beta file from mega.

My Droid is all stock, never rooted. Simply put the update file on my sdcard and followed the instructions from this forum.
Hook, I see a graphic in the bottom right of your posts that has rules about posting scrolling under a Droidforum.net graphic.

Thanks.

I installed the later update about 48 hours ago after having a bunch of issues with the first file and its been smooth sailing on the full update dancedroid

OK, let me ask a question that I did not see. I got the system update popup. I clicked install later. I DO NOT want it. BUt it's sitting up there in my notification bar staring at me. I know it's plotting it's next move, trying to find a way to disperse it's voodoo on my phone.

How do I make it go away for good never to rear it's head again?

If you are rooted and have a custom recovery ie. Sprecovery or clockwork recovery let it install. The recovery will block it and you're done. If no custom recovery you will just be bugged until you submit.

$.02, spend it as you please.

Nice! I am running BB 0.4 on SP Recovery. I was just not expecting that OTA to even be pushed to my phone. I have made backups of everything so I am going to attempt to install and let it get blocked.

Thanks jstafford1

For what it is worth, i woke up this morning with the "there is a system update ready to install on your phone" "install, install later, cancel".

I accepted the install and of course SPRecovery blocked it with zero issues
