ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

furbearingmammal... I think if I was sitting next to you, I would be watching your hair turn grey from this thread. :)

3) If you are unrooted, don't want to root, and already installed last week's patch job, there is no way to install the new release without rolling back to a prior one first. Because the new release will just examine the Droid otherwise and essentially say "I'm already on here, I don't need to be installed."

Ok so this is what I'm worried about. I'm not rooted and at the beginning of this post, it's stated that this zip file will not work for my phone because I already updated with the patch version. ... so now what?

Sorry if I'm being a pain...

Moving from an Eclair (2.1) build to a FroYo (2.2) ROM/build requires a wipe. 2-3x System Data and an additional 2-3x cache wipe is the norm because sometimes the wipe isn't 100% effective and a little smidgen of code remains, borking things in the final install. My opinion is this is why they moved to the new packaging/installer for the new OTA.

Motorola finally cued in to what the rooting community has known since the first FroYo ROMs hit -- you HAVE to wipe, even from stock to stock, or else things have a good chance of getting gummed up.

So then the OTA does a wipe too?

No one is being a pain on here. I was just kind of chuckling because the one with knowledge (furbearingmammal) is giving it all he's got but he will be forever hopelessly outnumbered by the people looking for knowledge.

You're not being a pain, I'm just in pain. :) What you're quoting has been proven wrong. The way this update behaves is different from any other update we've had, and what it does is similar to flashing an SBF file. Similar, but it doesn't wipe out all your user data.

Basically. Not in the same, all-or-nothing way a custom recovery image does when you tell it to wipe the system data, but as far as the end user is concerned it's the same.

I don't know about that, but I do know the brush had a few more hairs in it this morning than I'm used to seeing. ;)

This is not true. Several posters in this thread state they were able to update over the previous version with this full version. It does not matter whether you are rooted or not.

Unfortunately, the highlighted statement in the OP's first post maybe misleading if the subsequent posters' experiences are true.

In my case, I had a rooted FRG01B that I manually installed a week ago. I was able to successfully install the current full version it over without any problems.

I was not rooted, installed the patch last week.....phone was glitchy (lag in the screen loading, f/c of some apps while in the car dock), downloaded the full version "over top" of the patch and phone is working as expected with 2.2 on it now....faster, no lag, no f/c's ....yet....:fingers crossed: :)

So who has the droid 1 and put this new 2.2 update on and did not have any problems doing it. I just want a good clarification before I decide to do it.

I have a couple of friends in Dallas who have not received the OTA update, I read the OP and got the impression it had been pushed out. Are they still rolling it out in some markets or has this one been pulled for some reason also?

Ditto. Then crossed over to the dark side and purchased EasyRoot and SetCPU and am now running at 800mHz since 2.2 allows it (still have not ventured into the ROM/kernel area).

I think ht big hubub here is mainly about what people are running now and what updating will do or how to update.

THe main thing here is. If you went and bought a Moto Droid, didn't go nuts with it and left it alone. Well, when the update comes just let it install and life is good. Just be patient. THink of it like an upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. It's gonna take time to get up and running and then running smoothly. Lot's of things going on "behind the scenes" slowing the phone down in front of your eyeballs on the UI. It may drain the battery cause it's workin hard. Just let it have it's way for about an hour. Turn the phone off/pull the battery, whatever.. Turn it back on and enjoy. Recharge the battery if it drained. Plug it into the wall, not the USB. Dead batteries and USB don't get along well.
